I am not a vegetarian, but went with to this veggie restaurant with a friend who is. The interior of this restaurant is kind of funky. Warm and inviting with exposed wooden beams and nice brick work. But, also very colorful with different colored flags and tapestries. Makes you want to sit down and stay awhile. This was good because there was no rushing the kitchen here.

We both opted to get a full set lunch. This included a soup, salad, entree and a dessert for 128RMB. We also ordered a very nice bottle of white wine for 200RMB. The soup was vegetable and made to order. It was worth it, because it had fresh veggies in a brown broth. This was hearty bowl of soup which is not the norm in Shanghai.

Next, was the salad. The salad was okay lettuce, avocado, corn, carrots and kind of mushed up with an Italian type of dressing. My friend got the hummus which was really good. I would recommend that instead of the California Salad that I got.

The entree was a curry plate. It was spicy and full of fresh veggies. The plate was on the smaller side, but it was filling and, most importantly, it was delicious.

For dessert was a banana bread pudding. This came out of the kitchen still warm and I may go back to Anna Maya just to get this again.

Again, we really enjoyed our lunch. The food was made to order and fresh. But, that did come with a wait. We were there from 12:15 - 3:00. However, we did see people that came in and ordered just one thing like the curry plate and they were in and out of the restaurant quickly. We were not in a hurry, so the time was fine with us and the food was really good and healthy too!

We had the tastiest salads and soups. Not exactly Shanghai food but the most delicious. Do make the effort to visit - the chocolate cake was fantastic.

This is a heavenly place. Looking for some peace? For organic, vegan food? For beyond-belief taste? For healthy juices and yummy deserts? For a nice chat with the owner? For GREAT salads? If so, do yourself a favor and visit this fabulous place. I really can't praise it high enough. If I lived nearby, I'd be a more-than regular there.

I was just strolling down Toajiang Lu, one of the beautiful tree lined streets of the French Concession, when I noticed this charming, little old building and on closer inspection realised that it was a restaurant. It was lunch time so I decided that I would eat there.
Anna Maya is even more charming inside with its lovely homely feel, much like being in a treasured family members home. It is furnished with antique pieces and bric a brac to help create this special feel.
The owner is a charming young lady with a passion for fresh, whole food and the menu reflects that, with all of the menu items being made on the premises. You will find no fake meat or fish meals here. I am not vegetarian, but do like to eat more of a vegetarian style quisine and I enjoyed every morsel.
I loved my experience so much that I went back again. I know that if this restaurant was in my neighbourhood I would be a regular visitor. Sadly holidays do come to an end and Shanghai is far from home.
Do yourself a favour and give Anna Maya a try, you won't be sorry.
