When we booked this hotel, there weren't any reviews that we could find, but we took a chance and we didn't regret it. The hotel is in a great location; a two minute walk to the metro/tube, walking distance to Yu Yuan Gardens, People's Square, Nanjing Road and the Bund. It is also beautifully decorated. We loved the huge comfortable bed. We didn't see any other guests during our stay which was a little strange at first, but it felt like we had the hotel to ourselves!

Our rating is four instead of five because the hotel advertises itself as 5 star, but that is slightly misleading. Whilst the room, decor and location were fantastic, there weren't any porters by the doors to help you carry your luggage, there was no concierge as such, the staff did not speak good English (we had difficulty communicating at times). We also had to check out early and there was absolutely no hot water, so we didn't get to have a shower.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Aaron's House and we would recommend it.

We chose this hotel primarily because it carries the name of my son; but what a lucky find. Aaron's hotel is simply beautiful. From the marble floored lobby to the tastefully furnished spacious rooms, the hotel punches far above its weight. Believe every photo because that is exactly how Aaron's House looks.
Check in was simple and really efficient. We had a little bit of trouble checking out as the girl on the desk did not speak English and didn't understand that our room had already been paid for through a third party but it was sorted. Small problem in the scheme of things.
The rooms are really beautiful, the decor luxurious and everything considered to its smallest detail. We slept like logs each night we stayed.
The metro is 5 mins walk away. Turn right out of the hotel and walk the length of Jinling Road. Turn right at the end onto the main road, walk until the main intersection and it's on your left across the road. On the way back it's easy to miss the turn into Jinling Road especially in the dark so if you come across the Westin (huge building with lotus flower on the top) you've gone too far. Jinling Road is first on the left.
From the hotel you can easily walk to the Bund (when you get to metro intersection don't cross the road, just turn left and keep walking. The buildings and facades soon change from utilitarian Chinese to the glory of the past) and from there take the metro across the river to the Bladerunner-esque skyline of modern Shanghai. We had tea at the Peace Hotel just before we ventured across and we really felt as if we were moving from the grandeur of one era to another.

You must do one of the views from the tops of the towers. We did the JinMao building which is not the highest (the bottle opener building is) and for 150 each you can whizz to the top in ear-popping seconds and then suffer the vertigo that goes with not just looking out at the rest of Shanghai but from looking down into the atrium of the Hyatt hotel. We went just before it turned dark so got the best of the city before and after all the lights illuminate the city with their glow. The photo pack they do for 100 is really worth it for the information book that goes with it alone.
The fake market (off the science and tech museum metro stop) is fun but really, really bargain. They start with ridiculous prices.
And if you get time catch the Shanghai Circus World show (off its own metro stop) which is not a circus but some of the most jaw-droppingly exciting acrobatics you'll see. Get your tickets early in high season to try and get the cheaper seats as the auditorium is small and the the expensive seats simply not worth it.
Getting about is really easy. The metro is very user-friendly with an English version and tickets range from 3-7 yuan, but you have to go a long way to spend 7. We had to take a taxi from the airport because of a late flight (cost an eye-watering 215 and that was a metered taxi) but caught the metro and Maglev (magnetic train) which was just as fast, far more fun and only cost 8 for the metro and 50 each for the train.

Room Tip: We had a studio on floor 5 and it was stunning.

Aaron's house is a recently renovated hotel that's walking distance to Yuyuan Garden, Huxin Pavilion, the Shanghai Museum, the Bund (15 min.) and more. The room we stayed in (311) was fantastic. Richly appointed and reasonable rates. Some staff speak English but not all. Even so, we had no problems and the staff were very friendly.

I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Room 311 was outstanding. Double sinks in the generous Bathroom, comfortable couch and bed.
