“Nice place, food ok”
Reviewed April 12, 2013 via mobile

On arrival day our local business partners took us to an italian place, probably it was within walking distance from Shangri la hotel and offers a great view across the river. The italian chef, who came around greeting all customers and his team carefully prepare the food covering most of the italian classics. The antipasti was probably the most creative dish whilst the rest (from fish to pizza) was pretty standard, good but nothing to remember too long

“Great Italian food”
Reviewed March 29, 2013

We visited Tavola at lunch time and were impressed. The lunch menu includes an anti pasta buffet, a main which you order and then a dessert buffet. The anti pasta was very good and we all enjoyed the main dishes. The price was very reasonable for the quality, the service was good and there is a great view. Prices appear to be quite a lot higher in the evenings, so would recommend the lunch menu

“Solid offering but lacks the "wow" factor”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

My partner and I went to this restaurant during Dining City Restaurant Week. When we came there on one fine Friday evening, the restaurant was bustling with many diners.

The restaurant has three dining rooms. The first one is right after the entrance. Rather low key, empty, and uninteresting. But if you go up to the second floor, you have a nice dining hall with big wall-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Bund. There is also a large open kitchen where you can see the Chef and other cooks prepare your meals. When the weather is good, you can sit outside in the patio and get a nice view of the Bund and its historical buildings.

The service was good. I must say very efficient and professional. The waiters and waitresses were quite courteous though my partner said they lacked warmth and charm.

The appetizer was very good. Foie gras just melted in my mouth and it's very sweet. The bread that accompanied the appetizer was also of good quality. Now the disappointment or should I say the one that lacked the "wow" factor were the main course and the dessert. I had the beef and it was rather bland. Perhaps not enough seasoning. My partner said it was okay. So I guess just a bad luck on my side. Presentation was very nice though! Dessert was so-so. Nothing to complain but nothing to write home about.

All in all, the restaurant has solid offerings but it lacks certain "small things" that make it memorable. I'd like to make a comeback to see the consistency of this restaurant

“Italian in Shanghai”
Reviewed March 9, 2013

A great location on the river but service was poor and food very average. Would perhaps go along for views, and to enjoy outdoor seating, but would not go back to eat.
