“Time for a Change”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2013

People will argue that it's not German, but who cares? The beer and food are good! And plenty of it. A vibrant place to relax and take in the youth of Shanghai. Very well run premises and a change from the norm.
It's not cheap but loads of fun and is a must place to visit. Personally, highly recommended.

“As authentic as you would expect far away”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2012

The Paulaner Biergarten delivers some kind of bavarian (not to mix up with german) food and beer in a pretty authentic environment. A true Biergarten in Bavaria is for sure different, but this is as close as you can get with 9000km distance.

The food was for those not native from Germany very good and even for a German it was not too different.

Ok, they should probably learn not to fry everything in the same pot, as french fries are not supposed to taste like fish. And for a bavarian biergarten a "Curry sausage" does not really make sense (and had not much taste at all).

But overall you get real good food and beer for a reasonable price.

“Fantastic German place in Shanghai !!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 18, 2012

Loved it !!! A Busy crowded and Very Friendly place in Shanghai, with Authentic German Cuisine (I am not German but can appreciate some nice dishes), things like Brezel Tree as starter, and a basket of Superb Freshly Baked german bread with Pate, wow what a nice way to start, together with 0.5 liter of Wheat Paulaner Beer to gulp it all down !!

The atmosphere is Great, we were pleasantly surprised by a happy Filipino band .... wow they played everything from Rolling Stones to Carpenters to Donna Dummer to Tina Turner just to name a few!! Very Very nice this super band !!!

In short, we loved coming here, we ate there twice in a row, and had a great time. Some of the staff were not really well trained yet, but the very observing others made up for it big time !! Great Service!! We will be back ........

“western feel in big Shanghai”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2012

Original big sized Paulaner beer, catch happy hour before 7pm for 50 percent discount.
Food in large portion, live singing performance, a total western atmosphere, but you have to tolerate the cigarette smokes.
Beautiful view of the Bund when sitting outdoor.
