Too brightly lit, a 200 Rmb minimum per person, and a crowded pub-like atmosphere full of tourists in sneakers and baseball caps all combine to create a turnoff even before the music is factored in. Then there's the music, which couldn't be further removed from jazz. I was expecting an elegant Art Deco jazz bar on a Saturday night but felt like I was in a suburban London pub instead. And the host needed a clean uniform to boot. Skip this and go to Flair on the rooftop of the Ritz Carlton instead.

DON'T GO THERE - unless you're just looking for a good laugh.
The Music might have been better in 96 when the band peaked now it was just hopeless. The Singer was ok when singing in chinese providing you could filter out the drums.
Minimum spend 200 rmb Per person. Horriffic.

Visited Jazz Club at the Peace Hotel when we are around the Shanghai Bund, paying RMB 200 per person is the requirement (RMB 150 for weekday) for you to enjoy the Jazz Music from 7.30 until midnight with drinks and snacks at your own choice. We love and enjoy so much, no matter it is western or oriental music. Music they played are so gentle and harmony, especially the trumpet and the pianist. During the interval, another group of band with singer is not as good as the oldest group if you will to make comparison, It is hard to believe what will happen if the oldest group go retire in the near future. So, go and listen to their Jazz music now before they all go disappear.

The Old Jazz Bar in the Peace hotel is a jewel. Nice music (various bands may perform on one evening), an enforced smoke free environment (A breath of fresh air in Shanghai) and great drinks and snacks. Old fashioned service comes at a price, of course, but even that is still manageable.

If you are really into live Jazz, make sure that you stay for the late band (aka "the young man band")- they start at 10pm. We've been there several times and have never been disappointed!
