The Bund is amazing, especially at night, but it is a fight to see it. All of China is crowded for sure, but tourist sites have become especially complicated as millions of Chinese citizens now can afford to travel. Be strategic in your visit. Ignore all other people, especially those selling trinkets or discount boat tour tickets, or what not. When I take people, usually take them to the top of the Park Hotel - get the sites without insane crowds. Or, even better is to go to the Pudong side (much less crowded).

Going to this area gives the feeling of being in Europe, while looking into the other side of river seems like in Hongkong harbor , but the sky scraper here are out of ordinary, love the scenery.

As well as strolling along the promenade and taking in the views of Pudong, it is well worth taking time to walk closer to the buildings and take in the architecture. The buildings weren't really lit up at night, so to get the best views and appreciate the design, its best to go during the day. We liked the fact that the majority of the buildings had plaques on the front, showing what the building used to be and why they were important.
It's also worth reading a bit about the history of the area before your visit. Previously the Chinese weren't allowed to own property on this stretch, which explains the pride they now take in each of the buildings and the multitude of Chinese flags flying in the area

You can see all the city in a glimpse. It looks imposing, it's too big and it gives you an idea about how a central planning can work when coming to the disposition of a city.

The Bund is so fabulous, especially if you like architecture. We visited during the day and evening and went inside as many buildings as possible. There are some absolutely beautiful lobbies, especially the Waldorf Astoria and the Peace Hotel. Very impressed to see the pristine appearance of the buildings with no exterior signs or billboards. Don't miss it!
