Went for a walk along here in the late evening and the views were fantastic . The contrast of skyscrapers facing classical architecture was amazing especially due to it all being lit up . I couldn't believe the amount of people along here all taking photos or walking. Don't miss it - great atmosphere.

Great city views but this wasn't the China we came to see. Shanghai is impressive as one of the worlds largest cities, but big cities are not our first choice for learning about foreign culture

It's not bad but the water is so dirty, it should be good views on both side of the river, we only see the west side due to the poor visibility, foggy? Smoggy? Air pollution!?

The bund at night is a wonderful site. The government fund 1 million yuan every evening lighting the city most if it goes on the bund. The two sides of the river are very different with the new skyscrapers in pudong and the heritage buildings such as what is now the Waldorf opposite. It makes a very pleasant if hot walk on summer evenings. To cool down and slake your thirst call in at the Waldorf and grab a drink in the Long bar which is 33 metres long - oh yes the banana daiquiri is good too! The Waldorf is magnificent inside and well worth a visit. For 2 yuan each way you can take the ferry to cross the river and get a different view if the bund.

The Bund is a beautiful promenade in the old town along the Huangpu River. On the other side is Pudong, a new large district with extreme high buildings. These skyscrapers are not only high but often beautifully designed. Pudong is the global showroom for modern architecture, there is no place like this. Daily tens of thousands of Chinese and other tourists are watching this beautiful decor. In the evening, the buildings are illuminated creating a fairy-tale atmosphere. On the side of the old town are some beautiful colonial buildings, they are also illuminated at night.
The promenade is situated a few meters higher than the adjoining road, separated by a wall lined with thousands of beautifully colored plants, a masterful decoration. The Bund is one of the few touristic places where the Chinese have held the decoration sober, just a few simple stalls with soda / water and a some photographers. It is busy, but there is a great atmosphere, a nice place to be.
Getting married is a big issue in China. On the Bund we were frequent photographers at that young women in wedding immortalized. In varying, often rented, dresses is a "beautiful" bride reporting made. These are pre-made going to the wedding and shown during the party to the guests. On the Bund a groom had to lift his bride in front of the camera, he almost collapsed under his skinny bride, the weakling. Weddings are celebrated with a lot of guests and where the groom always drunk ended the day. What about the romance of the wedding night I wonder.
