Interesting display and collection about how Shanghai used to look like in the past decades. Loved the visit and would like to go again!

Fantastic - there is so much here to fill in an afternoon and keep you out of the smog. In the base of the Oriental Pearl TV & Radio Tower, there is no indication of what is behind the unimposing entrance, but you should not miss this if you visit Shanghai. Lots of dioramas and models bring the old Shanghai to life. The models of the old colonial properties (from British, French, Dutch, etc concessions) are fascinating and show how much influence we have had on this most westernised of Chinese cities (apart from the SAR of China known as Hong Kong).

This is a part of Oriental TV Tower. Wax models are very well depicted, They have created roads for you to walk on and the old styled building on your side as you walk through. That gives you a live picture. The effect of colonialism- the good and the bad, their changing lifestyles- adoption of tea and coffee houses, the war zone is all explained fantabulously.

Loved it - although fair warning, it takes a looong time to get through! A must do if you're already at The Pearl! Halfway through you can take Old Shanghai photos. At the end you can shop for tons of souvenirs.

During my trip with my family, we wanted to visit one museum. From the reviews here, I decided it would be the Shanghai Museum or this one. I asked a friend who lives in Shanghai and has visited both, he told me this one was better. So, I chose this museum.

I probably should have gone to the Shanghai Museum instead.

The History Museum is located at the bottom of the Oriental Pearl Tower. During our visit, it was very foggy and we decided we could not see anything up in the Tower. So, we only bought tickets to the museum.

It has exhibits showing the history of Shanghai from the beginning until the modern today. Everything is enacted using props and figures. There is not a single historical artifacts (except some odd ones such as a marriage cart used in the 1930s donated by the owner). So, it is not really a museum but more like learning the history of Shanghai by walking through a documentary.

It is educational. I should have gone to the Shanghai Museum which I presume is better.
