The Gucun Park hotel in Shanghai is a thoroughly pleasant, though somewhat bland hotel.
I stayed here while working at Lake Malaren (about 15 minutes drive away).
The park is reputed to be one of the biggest in Shanghai. It's nice to have the greenery and absence of traffic. From the main roads, you wouldn't even know the hotel was there. This can pose a problem with taxi drivers who don't always know the place exists!
The park itself is fenced off, so there's no direct access from or to the hotel, and to get to the nearby Gucun Park metro station, it's a lengthy walk around the outside of the park rather than through it!
I had a very comfortable king-size room. Nice decor with a large Chinese print over the bed. Large bathroom. Plenty of storage space and a nice seat to relax on for watching the big screen tv.
Breakfast is served in a large area off the lobby and there's a decent lobby bar too. Good fare.
Staff are helpful, communicative and with good levels of English.
If you don't want to dine in the hotel, there's not a lot of choice in walking distance and takes some finding.
It can be a lengthy drive into the heart of Shanghai.More
