Pros:
- brand spanking new
- an extremely comfortable bed
- nice views from high floors
- excellent bathroom

Cons:
- relatively expensive ancillary services (business center, spa, etc.)

This is a brand new hotel located in the central district just opposite People's Square. As such, not all the taxi drivers know it but this will likely change quickly as this hotel becomes more popular.

Everything looks and feels new and the hotel is exceptionally polished. Staff are all professional and friendly. On check in, I went for the upgrade to the club floor which gave me a wonderful corner room and access to the lounge.

I was there for business and my time was quite short so unfortunately I did not have much opportunity to take advantage of all the hotel offered (pool, gym, spa, etc.) but it all looked clean and very new.

Like other top-end business hotels in China, they charge a fortune for the business center and spa and it is apparent that they are following a western model. As another reviewer wrote, tipping is starting to become apparent in China and I would not at all be surprised if this was one of the places that encourages it.

We had clients/friends come to the hotel for dinner and went to the main buffet restaurant which was excellent. They also have a few other options for more intimate dinners as well.

Rates are still very reasonable for this property likely because it is new - again as it becomes more popular I could easily see the rates rising.

Nice hotel, very new and great location to the square. Free internet and the food was very good. However, the bar is in the lobby, so after a long flight, the bar is not an escape to have a drink (unless you like lobby bars). Additionally, in the past year, something must of changed regarding tipping in China. Tipping didn't exist, until I got to this hotel. My luggage (1pc) was delivered and was asked to provide a tip. More than once. I was shocked. Hence, put a damper on my experience at this hotel.

Room Tip: Make sure you have a view of the square. If not, your view isn't special in any way.

I had inadvertently booked another Marriott Hotel in Shanghai after being told a wrong location for some business. However my colleagues had booked into this hotel. I wanted to transfer my booking to this hotel and the management bent over backwards to assist me. I ended up with an incredible rate (actually made into 3 nights for the price of 2) to enable me to not have to worry about the cancellation fee of one nights paid for accom at the other hotel. I was so impressed with this first impression and then the experience just kept getting better.

The hotel itself is all class. From the timber panelling to the most comfortable bed you could probably get in a hotel, the service and just smiling faces at reception at all times it's a wonderful experience.

Breakfast was reasonable (China doesn't do bacon at all well and this place is no exception) but here the saving grace at the buffet is the freshly cooked eggs to your satisfaction by the one call Egg Chef. Try the omlette with your choice of filling - freshly made, it's fantastic. Also the pastries are probably the best you'll get Shanghai side of Paris.

The hotel location is superb. So close to shopping precincts, the park (go strolling in the morning for views of tree hugging, tai chi, flash mob dancing, outdoor dance and singing classes and anything else you can think of - it's such an eye opener to your 'norm' in Shanghai life). We stayed in the Executive Suites - a really good idea if you need internet access as it comes free and can stack up if you are charged for it (standard rooms).

Go a high floor for a view that makes you think you are on another planet. Shanghai skyline is absolutely like something out of Star Wars and it's amazing. Enjoy it by being up high.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this hotel - it was a pleasure to come back to this room after a long hard day doing business - Chinese style. There's no stopping till you drop and when you drop somewhere like this, it's all worth it.

Room Tip: Go high floor - really worth it. Also Executive Room for free internet. There is also a good selecti...

I stayed at the Shanghai City Centre Marriott for a week during a work conference and I must say what a great experience it was. The hotel is Brand new and the staff is super friendly and always willing to help. The conference room was great with every time you get in the room after a tea and coffee break something different on the table. The food was great with real attention paid to the small things that makes a difference to one’s day.

Room really nice and spacious with everything you need in them. Wish I had more time to spend there. The hotel is in a great location within in walking distance to a lot of tourist attractions and restaurants, that is if it’s not too cold outside. There is a wide variety of dining options in the hotel so there is really never a need to leave the property if you don’t want to. Gym and sauna is really nice with everything you need right there.

Room Tip: All rooms only begin from the 8th floor but ask for a corner room on a high floors, great view of th...

Stayed here for one week and found that the front office still needs a lot of work on, not up to what i had in mind. My first stay ever at a Marriott... A little disappointed might say. Nevertheless the property is beautiful and centrally located. Wont be back unless there are no other rooms left in the city.... Guess not coming back at all....

My friend and i stayed here for 2 nights and could not have asked for better service with a very friendly staff. They brought us extra waters and answered every question we had.

Brunch was really great too. Lots of Chinese and Western choices.

Ask the front desk to write down the cross streets of the hotel as cab drivers tend to confuse the north and south street addresses.

I will plan to stay here every time I come to Shanghai.
