I recently had a long stay at this Langham. I’m in hotels 75+ nights a year, and have been to Shanghai often. I believe this is the best hotel in SH, and without a doubt the best Langham in which I have stayed. In SH I won’t stay anywhere else. Here’s why:
Room: Excellent – very contemporary with everything you want, great views, comfortable bed, service for the rooms is fantastic—cleaning people happy, extra anything you need delivered within 3-5 minutes. Gym is very good and great pool.
Location: One side is Xin Tian Di (western style mall with din tai feng and western food) and the other side is the new K11 mall with 6 floors of world class shopping and 3 floors of restaurants. HuaHai Road is 1 block away and has local shopping and restaurants, Madang Road has all the boutique places. Cabs are plentiful and you’re 14 RMB from everywhere. Metro line 1 is across the street (one stop from People’s Square which means you’re 7 minutes to people’s square from hotel which is perfect). Line 10 is a 7 minute walk on the other side of xin tian di. With Metro, at all times you’re no more than 2 stops on from anywhere. SH’s metro is excellent and highly recommended. Local food also everywhere so if you want to eat the best local restaurants concierge team will give you a list and map to all of them – highly recommended – and so close.
Hotel Vibe: The lounge / bar is unique. It is right in the middle of the first floor, so you see entrance, restaurant, dessert area, front desk while enjoying live piano. Whether planned or not, this creates great energy and even better people watching as many park their Lamborghinis our front and show up in the hottest fashions.
Best reason: The staff is amazing. Everyone is so happy. I actually believe because the hotel lobby layout, the positive energy and vibe is contagious. Everyone is smiling and happy to help! If Langham realized the layout created this amazing happy employee culture, they would setup all hotels this way. Countless times I had special requests and every time the teams came through, and were happy to help. The front door staff would point out some unique things happening on the street, greeters would make sure I had everything. Front desk team always said hi. Concierge team made sure I had so many great restaurants (where they would eat) and the unique SH places like Xiao Yang Sheng Jian and Wai Po Fan Dian) and would know the quick cab route or the right exit at the metro stop. Cleaning people were so happy to make the room spotless. I’ve never seen so many people happy. Half way through my stay I knew everyone’s name and they all new me. Every day upon leaving and return, I’d have conversations with my friends.
Only one concern – as word of how great this Langham gets out, they will raise rates. :)
