Global leaders, celebrities and socialites came for the perfect dining experience, enjoying the exceptional quality of service and unsurpassed Bund panoramas. Today, the revived Cathay Room embodies the same values of culinary vision, service excellence and social dining. “Patchy service but good value & great view of the Bund”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2012

We went for Sunday brunch and versus other Shanghai hotel brunches it is surprisingly good value at less than 500 rmb for brunch including free flow champagne.

Starters and dessert are buffet style and whilst the starter selection isn't huge the quality of meat and seafood is very good so it more than satisfys. For main there was a choices of 4 or so meat/fish dishes and also a variety of eggs benedict dishes. I had the lobster eggs benedict and it was very rich but delicious, my parter had sea bass which was probably even better. The dessert section is a work of art and there is also a good cheese selection, should you prefer that.

In terms of atmosphere this place was really nice as it was full of natural light, fully booked but not too noisy and also not huge versus other Sunday brunch places so it feels more intimate. The only slight let down was the service. It wasn't awful but it wasn't also to the level you'd expect of somewhere like this - patchy is the best description - but it didn't spoil a lovely brunch and at this price we will surely go back.

“Small portions”

The small portions may have been because we were with a tour group. However, the food was very good.

“Excellent Choice on The Bund”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 1, 2012

After reading about the venerable Peace Hotel, we had to try The Cathay Room. We arrived for a late lunch, so the dining room was not crowded and very peaceful. The views of The Bund are excellent. Although the menu is somewhat limited, there are selections that will please everyone. We started with an excellent bread basket and then had the wild mushroom soup, which was the best I've had in Shanghai. We then had a fish and a meat main course. Both were beautifully prepared. The wine choices were excellent. Service was very good, in spite of the fact our server was in training. I can't wait to try it for dinner.

“Excellent food, great view, great service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2012

Located in the Peace Hotel, this restaurant overlooks The Bund. Everything was good -- food, wine list, service and a great view over the Shanghai night sky.
