“Perferctly appointed and beautiful room”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

Chosen as a stop over hotel for 18hrs between flights from Melbourne to London, his hotel was a total gem. Thanks to previous Trip Advisor ratings!
We had a room on the 11th floor which was modern, clean and filled with everything you'd expect in a 5 star hotel room, plus more. Automated blinds and lighting was great plus all amenities and room service reasonably priced, quick and very tasty! Really cool glass panel atomiser between ensuite and bedroom plus comfy beds.
Quick cab ride (15mins) from out front of the airport - about 130yuan.

Room Tip: 11th floor was great (1126) very quiet

We chose this hotel on an overnight stopover in Shanghai. The transfer from the airport (arranged by hotel) was quick and easy - took about 15 minutes!
The room was very modern and clean.
We tried the in room dining and were pleasantly surprised!
Would stay here again if on stopover

The positives.....great room, contemporary design, comfy bed, excellent bathroom fixtures and fittings which allowed for a good nights rest.

Buffet breakfast more than adequate and caters for all nationalities.

The check-out was very slick as was the courtesy transfer to the airport.

The negatives.....check-in was problematic with the receptionist insisting my credit cards could not be accepted although there was not a problem drawing cash from the ATM adjacent to the reception.

Not wishing to venture out we decided to eat at the hotel. We chose the Chinese restaurant but walked away within 5 minutes since none of the waitresses could understand a simple request for 3 bottles of beer. We then moved to the Japanese restaurant which was better but only just. We selected the BBQ beef menu but beware the photographs on the menu bare no resemblance to the dish that is actually served. What we thought was a fillet steak turned out to be a thin strip of meat less than 10mm thick. Ok no big deal when in transit but would not stay any longer than one night.

Location: This is not strictly an airport hotel. It is just closer to the airport than most other hotels. A taxi ride is about 20 minutes. My flight was almost two hours late so I took a taxi. It cost me RMB 54.

I took the free shuttle back to the airport offered by the hotel. I noticed the van was unmarked. I wouldn't have known how to find the van at the airport, even though I was given detailed instructions.

The area around the hotel is definitely down scale. I had dinner at a nearby restaurant and it was expensive and not good. I did buy a 0.5-litre beer for RMB 3. Do not leave the hotel.

Facilities: The rooms at Royal International are fantastic. It is definitely an international five-star facility. There was a thick bathrobe. I love the huge bathtub. The bed was very comfortable. Lighting for reading in bed was great. The desk is good and the internet connection fine. There was CNN on the television.

Restaurants: I did not try any of them. There is a coffee shop, a Japanese restaurant and a Macau restaurant which cater to banquets. I left at 6 am so there was no time for breakfast.

Fitness Center was just average. There were not enough weight machines.

The staff was polite and helpful.

Comfortable almost lavish rooms, good restaurant/buffet, very accommodating English speaking staff, nice fitness room, free airport shuttle, 5-10 minutes from Pudong. Beautiful property. Neighborhood not so good, no restaurants or shops. Great crash pad for before or after airport landing.

I arrived in Shanghai in the evening, and I wanted a hotel relatively near the airport. The Royal International was perfect -- far enough away from the airport and yet a short taxi ride. The hotel is very contemporary and the rooms are very tastefully decorated featuring technology that has not reached the West yet. I highly recommend.

We booked this hotel to sleep in during a 12 hour stop-over between India and Australia, due to 3.20 am departure from India. Hotel gorgeous, fantastic price, every comfort in the room, including great pillows and lovely fluffy towels. Friendly staff and lovely (complimentary) airport limousine. Buffet meal looked a little better than it was as the hot meals were lukewarm. However, all great until we were in the limo and the hotel Manager came and knocked on the window to tell us we had taken a face washer!!!! Which we hadn't, but it was in the shower on a shelf. Very awkward final moment for 2 middle aged, boringly honest people over a ?$1 washer.
