Great place to hang out and see some really good musicians. Go early, have a few drinks and avoid the cover charge while getting a good seat. It fills up quickly on Friday and Saturday nights.

In the heart of Shanghai you'll find this gem of a local hangout for listening to great jazz, blues and even a little top 40. Drinks aren't anything special but the band was awesome. Made up of musicians from everywhere from Russia to the U.S, even tho it doesn't seem as if they always play together and sometimes seemed a bit unorganized, they played and sang some great songs. It was fun to see the Chinese cut loose as they usually don't seem to. Only negative, as is the case with all bars in China; even tho smoking is banned in the country people see that more as a suggestion than a law. If you're very sensitive it won't be the place for you or maybe you can find an area a little less smoky than ours which was near the dance floor. I also suggest eating somewhere beforehand. The food is pricey in the restaurant area for the quality, so my high rating is for the bar and band.

Shanghai is a wonderfully diverse and cosmopolitan city and the perfect setting for this club. Still, it is a surprise to find classic jazz, blues and R&B a block off of the Bund. This is the club’s third iteration, a small that meanders through several rooms. The place has a gothic feel with dark wood and heavy velvet drapes. Four beers and Guinness on tap and a bunch of local cocktail favorites. There is definitely a diverse group of foreigners here (it is mostly ex-pats) and lots of locals from young to old. There is a dining area and I’ve heard that the food is very good, but I didn’t come for the food. I came for the music and I was not disappointed. , Carlton J. Smith and the Soul Brothers were playing. The band took the stage and started up and were fantastic. I’d have been happy to listen to just them, but then, Carlton J. Smith took the stage and they came to play! Carlton is a genius at interacting with the audience. I especially loved when an audience member requested an Abba song (in a jazz club?!) and Carlton brought her up on stage and sang to her a made-up R&B song called “I Ain’t Gonna Play Dancing Queen” complete with backup vocals!

Taking a look at the club’s schedule, they have a wide range of jazz and blues but also R&B performers lined up, and I will definitely be coming back.

If you thought this is a music place you would be right ! It is possibly the best place for this genre of music in Shanghai . What is interesting is it is also a good place to have dinner amidst the smoky looking ( no cigarettes inside) 1920s decor. The bathrooms are period pieces and every fitting reflects the bygone era. The food is good as well and then around 930 pm the band rolls in set the place on fire. The bands keep changing - ours played a reworked Memphis Soul Stew that was approprately re-named Shanghai Soul Stew. A MUST DO in Shanghai

This restaurant is great value with really good food and an extensive menu. The set menu is excellent, in fact more than we could eat! Obas in the ghost village, kaya, is also a must, as is the fish market in fethiye, where you buy your own fish, and choose one of the many restaurants to cook it for you....! All in all if you are a foodie.....you will be in heaven
