Ibis Shanghai Yu Garden

Excelent hotel, low cost, great location, good breakfast, good rooms, good staff with little english, no extra services like maps. Do I recommend this hotel, certainly, but take in consideration that is a budget hotel with the best location for Yu Gardens and Ols Shanghai.

The location of the hotel was perfect for us. The Yu Yuan gardens were across the road with the Tea House and all the restaurants right there. There were 2 shopping complexes with western style clothing etc on the other side. It was only a short walk to the Bund. The breakfast was disappointing as food kept running out and the selection of western type food was sparse. The rooms were comfortable and typical layout to the Ibis Accor group

good location, good room space, facility is clean with free internet in the room (if free Wifi type would be even more better). Staffs are nice and giving a helping hand
TV channel has football English premiere league ''live", which is very good and entertaining, as it's not so easy to find and not common with sport bar in Shanghai

Even more better if more English and German "DW" available for more news in program

Breakfast needs improvement and not value enough with the price, maybe just to offer simply a good soup with real bread, butter, jams and some boil eggs, salat and yogurt, should be fine enough.

If non-smoking in all area would be great
will stay again if coming to Shanghai
and would recommend to try it here.

live with more English program would be nicer

Although I initially had some issues with the hotel I adjusted to appreciate the hotel.
The hotel is actually above a shopping mall in Yu Gardens and certainly falls into the “budget+” category.

The staff was very friendly and obliged me to resolve some initial problems with the room(s). The room overall was clean but very basic with no English television stations, no mini-bar/refrigerator and no safe. If you don’t have a room on the outside chances are you will get a room with no windows. Fortunately I had requested one of the better rooms that provided me a window.

The hotel is actually above stores and a shopping mall in a very busy area. There are many tourists and tourist shops in the immediate area. The stores and restaurants on the side streets around the hotel are places that would be difficult for most westerners to handle so be prepared.

The hotel is in a good location with easy access to tour buses and The Bund. Fantastic view from the rooftop patio.

Would I stay here again? Was not that bad and the price/location was good.

Room Tip: Be sure to upgrade room with outside view. If not you may have a room with NO windows.

Good hotel for the price. Service is also very good. Location is very close to yu garden metro station. Easy to reach. Since this is close to tourist attraction, yu garden we can find no of good quality restaurants nearby, like KFC, Mc Donalds and Pizzahut. All the things about this hotel is satisfactory except that the Bathroom is congested.

The hotel is a typical Ibis style hotel. I had a room without a window which I found strange. The level of english at the reception was only average. The room was "BUG free" but the AC remote was in Chinese which I could not set correctly. The best thing about the hotel is the central location within Shanghai + cheap price. This is a no frills hotel. The shops in the area are average but there are many places to eat: Chinese, Mcdonalds, KFC etc...

The back side of the hotel opens onto Yuyuan Gardens Bazaar, which is a large area of old style chineese buildings all in red color that are all stores or restaurants. Forget breakfast at the hotel, which is mostly chinese noodles, McDonald's is only 100m away in the left-hand corner of the Bazaar with prices of only 3/4 of U.S. prices. Going to the left, facing the hotel, one and one-half blocks to a main street will bring you to ATM's and three blocks up to the Yuyuan Gardens subway stop on line 10. No escalator at this entrance, #3, and 62 steps up. Xanxing Steamed Bun Restaurant in the Bazaar, across from tea house in he middle of the pond, is very good and reasonable for steamed buns which you must try, only better at Yang's and Ding Tai Feng. We went most everywere by subway but taxis are cheap but you must have where you want to go written out in chinese before you get in taxi. The rooms in the hotel are clean and come with hair dryer, tooth brushes, and tooth paste. Be warned! do not drink or even brush your teeth with the tap water. The beds are typical chinese very hard but since I like a firm mattress I had no trobule sleeping. Also everything electrical in the room turns on when you put your room key in the slot, but it also turns off, including the A/C, when you take your key with you. You may want to try and get two keys to the room, one to take with you and one to leave in the slot.
