“Contemporary art lovers will love this”
Reviewed April 16, 2013

15 minutes by taxi from People's Park, this cluster of 50 galleries and artist studios is a great destination for contemporary art lovers. Some small quirky spaces, some vast uptight galleries, and much in between. Take time to explore every level of every building and some great gems are there to be found. The exhibition summaries - almost all in Chinese and English - prove that the self-conscious language of creative rationalisation is universal. A couple of quirky cafes, but no substantial dining to be had here. Just wander and soak it up. Highly recommended, if this is your cup of tea.

“OK”
Reviewed March 29, 2013

This makes for a great half day trip to the norther edge of the city centre. 80+ galleries are showing and selling their art. As someone who sees a lot of galleries I would say that the displays could have been a little more varied for my taste - see more different techniques on display for example. However it is convenient having so many galleries in one place; there is also a coffee shop and taxis come by frequently, so all in all a comfortable destination.

“Great snapshot of contemporary Chinese art”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

A visit to M50 is a fantastic way to get an insight into the contemporary art scene in Shanghai. Lots of hidden galleries to discover down dark alleys and up foreboding staircases but be brave - it's worth it. Set asked at least a few hours for this if you're really into art, there are some good reference book stores and cares as well.

This area of revamped old factories contain gallerys, art and artists of all types. If you are interested in the modern art movement in China, this is a must see.

“An heaven for contemporary art-lovers”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

This place is a little bit hard to reach if you are not travelling with a group as it doesn't have a metro station near-by, so the choices are taxi or 20 mins walking to the nearest metro station. but, if you love art, this is a must. lot's of galleries, paintings, sculptures, digital media and contemporary art in one place. Don't come hungry as there are very few places and most of them has no food to offer, only drinks or light sandwiches.
