“Basic Shanghainese food, average service located in a posh area of Shanghai”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2013 via mobile

Husband and I came here for lunch during our Shanghai stay, location is very conveniently situated in the posh xintiandi area, decor is nostalgic old Shanghai feel, waiters mainly are young guys of average service, non-friendly and expressionless on their faces, food is good but far from excellent, we had some basic Shanghainese dishes, such as steam eggs with clams, braised pork belly, stuffed red dates with glutinous rice, xiao long bao n fried Shanghainese rice cakes, worth a visit but definitely not a must try Shanghainese restaurant. I think the fame of this restaurant had worn the service levels n food standards down.

“The best shanghainese food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013

This was the best Chinese food I had in Shanghai.
The food is outstanding and serve efiiciently by young Shanghainese waiter. The service is efficient and serve family style.I would recomend the Grand mother pork, the fish head deep fried with green onion, the prawn and the chicken fried with red Chili, the red date filled with sticki rice.
the ambiance is great. the restaurant is located in an old shanghainese house in the fame Xintiandi. If you wish to experience the French quarter style go to Xinjishi in Xintiandi.

“awful place compared to standard China”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2013

I have been invited to this place by some Client and I was hoping to enjoy another good meal.
I was wrong.
the place is located is a very posh area of the city yet it seems to be made to rob the customers.
Service is really poor and the food is also among the worst I ever had in this magic land.
I would not recommend to go again.

“One of the best restaurants for authentic Shanghainese cuisine”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 25, 2013

Local Shanghainese friends brought us to this restaurant, which we enjoyed a great variety of dishes, starting with the cold appetizers, then hot appetizers then other main dishes. Even the roasted peanuts in seaweed dust was amazing. Love the beancurd in crabmeat sauce, the smoked fish (a specialty dish in Shanghai), abalone in soup, lotus root stuffed with sweet sticky rice, fresh steamed fish, beancurd "sponges" with black fungus, fresh crispy veggies (like long thin asparagus)...there were many more dishes which I cannot remember but it was all superb. Recommend to go in a big group so everyone can taste a wider variety of dishes. Ambience was quaint and the service was very good. Reservations highly recommended as the place is packed almost every night for dinner.

“Out of the Way Worthwhile”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 30, 2012

Our hotel staff recommended this restaurant which we would never have found otherwise and we were lucky he got us a reservation. It is busy busy and loads of fun, authentic Shanghai food so be warned, lots of chilli (we had a cold chicken in chilli 'soup' dish which was too die for) and as it was crab season we had the crab and vegetables- also wonderful as well as some more general and traditional dishes. Fast service, some wine available (but good wine was expensive).
