Qibao is not the most beautiful spot I've seen in China, but it was definitely one of the fun little villages I've visited. The street is very narrow, and having visited on a holiday it was packed with people. I mean there was a wall of people moving in either direction, and it was fun to try and navigate through the press.
Worth a visit, definitely, but only if you're not the soft tourist who wants everything like it is back in the West.

Please see my other review for Qibao.
I did not enjoy the visit, it was just another unpleasant city in China. They all look the same.

I have been to a few water villages and Qibao is the most disappointing one. If you just want a quick taste of ancient villages, and you only have a few hours, go ahead. But if you have half a day to spare, go to Zhujiajiao instead.

Qibao is very small, and very commericalized. There were only a handful of bridges and not enough to see. But the advantage is its closeness to the city and that you can reach the old town by underground train. So for a quick taste of water village, or if you have a couple of hours to kill, Qibao is not a bad choice. Don't bother with shopping; most of the stuff are the same as what you can find at Yuyuan, or other street stalls. We had lunch in a local restaurant on the main street where they were selling muttons cold cuts in the front, food was surprisingly very good. Not cheap. I think we paid about 300 yuan for 5 of us. Prices are comparable to big restaurants, but to be expected since it is in the middle of a tourist attraction.

It's worth a visit. Easy to get there line 4 metro and stop at Qibao station. Less than 10 mins walk. You can see the likes of a water village. The likes of shanghai old street where lots of small bazaar. Selling food stuff from roast pig to braised trotter to noodle cooked with chicken blood as condiment. Lots of small eatery and your courage over food is taken as a test. Can get good buys on handicraft and small gift items including value for money blouses n blazers. It's crowded and takes about 1.5 hrs to really appreciate n walk till the end. Try it! Evenings may be better as its lighted up!!
