I stayed in the hotel for 5 nights during renovation work of their lobby though the hotel is a new building. They block the hotel lobby for this work. Room guests cannot go directly from ground floor to their rooms. Room guests need to go to club building to check in and take a lift to second floor, walk thru the ball rooms, change another lift to third floor, walk a bit, change another lift to fifth floor, walk a bit and final reach a lift to guest room. it takes quite a long time to walk back to the room.

The room is modern, spacious and comfortable even for our standard room. 46" flat screen TV, sound system, Ipod dock. Bathroom is huge and impressive. Open concept with bath area with adjustable blinds. Separate wet-room shower and separate electronic toilet (near the entrance of the room). Sound insulation is a bit poor. I can always here people talking in next door. The first night I stayed in the hotel already have air-conditioning problems. Hopefully their technician can fix in within short time.

Restaurants are very expensive. Quality of food doesn't match the price no matter Cantonese Restauarant or the Western Restaurants. Not for a 5-star hotel. We want to try Prime 500 steak house but ask more than 4 staff there to locate the restaurant. At the end the last one told us that the restaurant is not open. Very disappointed.

Gym room is good with latest high-tech equipment. They also have a nice indoor swimming pool, steam and sauna room. I guess they have change a bit with the deep of the pool. Now is from 1.4m to 1.7m deep.

Staff service is not consistent and competent. Not being well trained. Even they change another staff to clean up your room, you will be easily discovered. During the renovation period, we can see the weakness of the staff there. They just stand and ask u to go this and that. Restaurant the same, staff service is not consistent. You need to ask them to fill your coffee or tea. In conclusion, it is just not make you feel it is a 5-star hotel.

Location is good especially when you need to go to another places, like Nanjing, Suzhou, Hangzhou, etc. With 10 - 15 minutes, you can go to the Shanghai railway station to get the high speed train to these places. You can also easily to get the Metro as well if you are afraid of traffic jam in Shanghai.

I was in Shanghai recently for buisness trip and stayed in InterContinental Shanghai Puxi.
The staff were super friendly and helpful - english was not a problem and they often have expats around who can help with translations (the management trainees).
The rooms are a good size and very nicely furnished. They also have amazing gadjets like the future toilet....
Food at the hotel is good and friendly staff are often about. The ECCO daining could have a bigger choice though. I also had some drinks in the evening at the Avenue bar and the supervisor there, i think his name is Sebastain, is a relly elegent gentelman who not only sugjested me a good dish (the cheese plate) but also a pairing franch reasling wine!

Defenetly comming back!

We left booking our hotel until only a few days before we arrived and were badly caught out by EXPO. Shanghai was virtually full. We were fortunate to get a club room at the Intercontinental Shanghai Puxi. On arrival we found that our travel agent had booked us a room with twin beds instead of a king, which was disappointing. Unfortunately there were no king rooms available. The management was very cooperative and offered us an upgrade to a suite if we stayed in the twin room until one was available later in our 5 day stay. In the end we opted to stay in the twin room, we were so comfortable there. The twin beds were actually double bed size. (approx 130cm wide)

The rooms are very large and luxurious, probably amongst the best we have stayed in. The large bath was good and the electronic toilet facinating. We also liked the free internet.

We found the service excellent, particularly in the club lounge. We were lucky that the Intercontinental had six trainee managers from a swiss hotel school who were all really nice and very helpful. The conciege staff were also very good, helping us with advice on were to visit in the city.

The location was not a strong point from our point of view. We went on a private guided tour to Suzhou by train, so the location near the station was good on that day. Other days we had to get a taxi into town to go to the various places. We generally prefer to stay where it is possible to walk to the places we want to see. The taxis were easy and cheap but we would rather have stayed at say the Bund area if we could have. Having said that, it would probably be hard to find a hotel there as good as the Intercontinental. We went into the foyers of the Sofitel and the Radisson and neither came anywhere near the standard of the Intercontinental.

Staying in Shanghai for the last few days of Expo saw few options available in town. Not our first choice, the hotel made a great first impression with a STUNNING foyer and excellent room appearance. However, an in-room problem was near-unbearable and service was dreadful at almost all levels.
Hotel location is convenient as it's within a short taxi ride from all major sights and good shopping (taxis are so cheap it's not worth considering anything else to get around). Door staff are very good, hailing cabs and translating destinations for the driver. In-room decor is very stylish with huge TV (local and international channels), DVD/CD player, much storage space, separate wash toilet, large bathroom with big bath and rain forest showerhead, sofa, desk, international power adapters, espresso coffee facilities and kettle. But the promised wi-fi was unusable (and the front desk access code-providers unintelligible), coffee facilities came at a cost (with no English signage indicating as much) and the room was filled by a constant odor that was near-unbearable. In fact, the smell caused me and my partner to wake with sore throats after the first night. We knew that the room was the factor, as we immediately recoiled upon returning to the room each day while sightseeing in smoggy Shanghai. The smell seemed to be caused by a rising damp problem, indicated by a constantly damp bit of carpet well away from any in-room water source as well as a NEVER MOPPED UP presence of white powder on the floor where salt (or something) was leeching through the stone floor from the concrete underneath. This was raised with staff on several occasions but nothing was done. Furthermore, to my eye all the staff were aware of the problem but played oblivious to it each time. I say this as they were never surprised to learn of the problem in my room. Another room offered to me had the same odor and white powder, that, when pointed out to the staffmember, was not even worthy of reaction!
The breakfast experience was also poor with dying orchids on the tables sitting in stale water, a full silverware setting rarely found on tables we were sat at, my partner chased around the restaurant to get our room number for a second time rather than waiting for us to return to the table, and dirty tables left uncleared for very long periods while countless staff walked around (including apparent supervisors) and simply pushed in chairs. Buffet food was average with items often left unreplenished and occasionally found stale.
Subsequently, room service and hotel dining was left untouched due to expectations of high-cost disappointment. Thusly, nearby restaurants were sampled and, surprisingly, found to have better service and English skills than the hotel! And the cost of a main meal? $1.

Got the club upgrade and was overwhelmed. The room was great, very large suite. Club room food was above excellent. Great dining each night. Staff spoke english and the bell staff were worth their weight in gold (hail your taxi from the street and tell you the price you should pay). Close to both the Shanghai railway station and the Metro. Close to shopping and food. Again a world class 5-6 star resort(complete with gym-included, sauna, steam room, and spa).

We recently stayed a week at the InterContinental Puxi in Shanghai. Having stayed before at the Grand Hyatt I was somewhat reserved about this hotel. It was a pleasant surprise! We had a spacious room with all the creature comforts. Mini bar items are costly and has a mini refrigerator but enough room to store some of your own items. The rooms seem to cater to business travellers and have wi-fi set up and all sorts of in-room gadgetry. Vanity mirror TV, rainforest shower head and many sensors about the room to turn on nite-lights when there is movement about including the bathroom which has a Toto brand hi-tech electronic toilet that can provide more functions than you can imagine for your convienence and comfort. The beds are very comfortable. We only ate in the main dining restaurant for breakfast but the layout, appeal, and quality were superior. We met the dining supervisor Sebastian and the Exec Chef Gary who seem to be 2 very dedicated extrodianary men who know their business and aim to please you, the client. Would definetly stay again, it is not a bad location very close to the Metro and Shanghai Railway Station for convienence in getting around Shanghai.

We stayed 1 week at the Intercontinental Puxi. Reading the reviews here, I was concerned about the location. Actually, this is not a problem at all. You can anywhere into town by Taxi, Railway and subway station is 5min away. The location is good and the hotel accessible.
We had a club room: large, nice big bathroom and access to the quiet club floor, with full breakfast, afternoon tea and happy hours. The staff is really friendly (go to the main tower for concierge services though). This is truly a 5* hotel and I will for sure return there next time I am in Shanghai for leisure or business
