“Vey Nice Hotel!”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

We stayed there for 3 nights, and our stay was very nice. This hotel is not old, so of course, the building and the room are very nice. The river view is beautiful, the lexecutive lounge is large, and the location is not too far... Personnaly, i tried the two Intercontinental in Pudong, and this one is better... The only constructive comment i can have, is about the food in the lounge.... Choice of drink is excellent , food was good, but... not a lot of choice. If an improvement can be done on that, i can say this hotel is excellent! I would like to recommended and say thank you to some employees especially; from Lounge ( Yuki & Wang River) & Elaine of guest relation. We will come back, of course!!!

This hotel is close to the Shanghai Expo Center where I was attending a conference. The whole area is fairly new, just being developed in the last several years, so there is not a lot of restaurants or things to do in the area aside from the hotel and conference center.

The hotel itself is lovely, with top notch rooms: large, spacious, modern, and clean, with great views of the river. The bathroom had a lovely tub, with two separate vanities and a separate room for the toilet. Beds were very comfortable.

The fitness center is great. Plenty of treadmills, ellipticals, weights, and machines. The pool is drop dead gorgeous.

The buffet restaurant on the 1st floor of the hotel is great for breakfast and just ok for dinner. There are two other restaurants in the hotel that I did not try. The 'Liquor Factory', a British Style Pub located in a garden with several villas next to the hotel, is worth a stop for a drink.

As other reviews stated, the location of the hotel is a bit remote from other things to see and do. It's a short cab ride to the Bund and downtown Shanghai where stores and restaurants are located. The surrounding area is very nice and in the evening when music played through an outdoor speaker system, I could see groups of women doing traditional Chinese dance on the various corners, I think it was a kind of communal exercise group... that was kind of neat.

Most employees spoke some English, but the level was varied. The concierge desk was the most helpful. I booked a tour through the desk for my one free afternoon and it was a nice overview of Shanghai for 4 hours, of course they always have the obligatory 'museum' stops which are really just a little bit of museum and quite a bit of retail shop.

There is still more development planned for this area, so I'm sure there will be more to do in the next few years. If attending another event at the Expo center, I would stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the river.

To start I will admit I stayed at the Intercontinental as part of a work trip so my experience is muted by the fact that I didn't choose the location nor was I there for pleasure. That being understood there are many things to recommend this property. Fantastic buffet breakfast and very comfortable rooms. There is a really neat set of villas behind the hotel housing an English style pub and some semi private rooms when you want to get away from the bust public areas. What the hotel mostly suffers from is isolation. I assume it was built for the 2010 expo and since nothing has been developed in the area since then there is nothing to do in the immediate area, nowhere to go short of getting into a taxi. But the view of the river and the very modern skyline from my 18th floor room almost made up for this. You can definitely do worse than this hotel.

Recently, I stayed at the this hotel. I came away impressed with the location, the service and the facility.

It is an excellent property for a business or leisure stay. The food is very good too with excellent choices for vegetarians as well.

Overall, a very good experience.

Room Tip: English is a bit of a problem for most staff. So make sure you get a good person who knows English.

Unless your conference is in the expo building 5 minutes away, pick Pudong property.

Expo Interconti is new, spacious and luxurious with many pluses but you're 'on an island'

Plus;
- great gym. Spacious and lots of equipment
- nice large rooms with great river views

Bad !!
- Italian restaurant Basilico is a complete disaster. I went in w 2 colleagues at noon for quick bite. We were told pasta would be fast so we all ordered a pasta dish. 90 minutes later....we finally got a tasteless meal. I had to basically strangle 3 different 'suits'. I was able to see the kitchen area where the plates are being given to waiters. A 90 minute non stop disorganized chaos. Incredible the amount of incompetence I witnessed here. Don't eat there.

Thank you very much for your comments and your positive feedback about our hotel's facilities. Please accept our sincere apologies for the shortfall in service and quality in our Italian restaurant. Rest assured we have taken the necessary measures to improve on the items you mentioned. We have recently hired a new Chef de Cuisine for the restaurant and you will be pleased to know that we are getting a lot of positive feedback from our guests regarding the service and food quality. We look forward to welcoming you again soon.

At the end of a far eastern cruise last month, we were booked in at the Intercontinental Expo hotel in Shanghai for two nights on a bed and breakfast basis in a superior room. On arrival we were offered an upgrade to a club room at a cost of £75 for the two nights. We agreed to the offer and what a good decision that turned out to be. For the additional sum we had a wonderful room on he 22nd floor overlooking the river. Also included was breakfast in the Executive room on the 26th floor, free Internet, coffee and tea 24 hours a day and complimentary food and drinks from 5pm to 8 pm daily. We did not have to eat in the restaurant. In fact, we did not have to spend anything on food and drinks.

The staff were excellent and the hotel is probably the best we have ever stayed in. We would definitely stay there again if we ever visit Shanghai again. The hotel is someway from the main tourist attractions, but taxis are cheap so this is not a problem. Definitely worth its six star rating.

I have stayed in many hotels in China and this would be one of the best.
The rooms were immaculate and the facilities were second to none. The pool and fitness centre was unbelievable . I would have no problem in saying the indoor pool was probably the best I have seen in the world. Well done
