“Nice boutique hotel...”
Reviewed November 19, 2011

Believe me, this is a really nice and affordable hotel with good location.

Food and spa services were expensive though but afraid not as the hotel's location is so strategic that you can get almost anything just a stone throw away.

Brief info:
Room - large room with nice art decor
Bathroom - large bathroom with tub, shower, separate WC and everything is functional except for one faulty light bulb
Bed - Good
Service - Good
Room View - No view at all

The location, by the metro hub of Peoples Square, is ideal. The rooms are generously proportioned, stylishly decorated and extremely comfortable and functional. And yet..............
The best Asian hotels have impeccable customer service. It is here I think that the Langham does not quite live up to expectations. The staff have a veneer of caring, attentive service, but it does not take much to crack this. I had a couple of what I thought were minor issues to be sorted, and I overheard some other guests with simple requests, and all this seemed to faze the staff. Breakfast was a good example of things not working too well - there were so many staff that they got in each other's way, but they still could not maintain continuity of supplies.
A good hotel, but not a great one

In Shanghai for the week-end excellent place to stay in regards of the location and the style of the hotel. Immerge yourself in the atmosphere of the 30's.
Room is not large but well appointed and the quality of the bed is really very good.
Breakfast could be better and early morning the cooks are making a lot of noise which is annoying,

Room Tip: Higher floor for having a terrace....great to take a drink or looking at the animation of the street...

Stylish Deco hotel in a great location. The Langham Yangtze is within walking distance to the Bund, Peoples Square, Nanjing shopping street and Museums and a short drive from the old town and other historic sites.

Our room was a bit on the small side but very nicely decorated and the bed was super comfortable. The lobby, bar and restaurant area looked great too and the service was friendly.

Business wise, I am travelling a lot and now I stayed at the Langham Yangtze Hotel.
After a busy day, the taxi driver took me into the city center (people`s square), where it was really noisy and crowded. Directly there the hotel is located.
I felt, it was not the best idea, but as soon as I entered the lobby, I felt relaxed and good. no noise, no loud music, no honking.
All met employees of the hotel were very nice and well informed about their hotel and the treatments they offer. The rooms are very nice decorated. it maqkes you easy to feel home.
The windows are very good isolated that you do not hear any noise from the busy streets outside.
I recommend this hotel to anyone. Loved it there and will go there again for sure!

My wife stayed at the Langham Yangtze for 9 nights in November 2011. The rate we booked was the "Heritage 1934", which is better for longer stays (1934RMB for night 1, 1200 RMB for subsequent nights.) It included breakfast for 2 guests, 500RMB F&B credit, free Internet and a transfer from the airport to the hotel in a BMW.

Pros:
* Location is fantastic. 1 short block from People's Square, 1 short block from East Nanjing Road, across the street from the Raffles, etc.
* The bathtub is enormous.
* The room was exceedingly large. Bathroom was huge, as well.
* Staff was helpful, always attentive (especially in the Ciao breakfast area and at the front doors.)
* As mentioned above, the booking package was quite nice. I looked at their other rates, and they weren't that favorable; I highly recommend this one.
* Hotel was amazingly quiet in the guest room. (We couldn't believe we were only on the 4th floor of the building!)

Cons:
* The bathroom seemed to drain slowly. (All sinks, the shower, the tub, etc.)
* Ciao's breakfast buffet had some 'lukewarm' offerings. It was rare to find 'hot' food, unless you made a special order for something.

Other than those, a fantastic hotel. We recommend it!

Room Tip: We had balconies on the 4th floor facing the street. I've read that inner-courtyard rooms are u...

I've been staying here for business, and think the hotel is excellent that I would highly recommend it to anyone ever visiting Shanghai for either business of pleasure - it's centrally located and just big (or small) enough to feel personal and very friendly. The checkin process was very nice, and I even got a rose as a welcome gesture (a sweet touch). Room is impeccable, has all one could wish for and more. Good internet connection. Rest of amenities in the hotel are also top notch, there is a fabulous spa (which stays open late!), some great restaurants (if one fancies eating in) and room service is very efficient. All in all, top notch and great value for money.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
In the center of Shanghai with endless flow of people, there is a place that could take you back to the 1930s to appreciate the golden age of Shanghai. That is The Yangtze Boutique Shanghai. The Yangtze Boutique Shanghai, an Art Deco masterpiece infused with gold age of Shanghai, owns the superior geographical position. Located in the People's Square, centre of Shanghai, the hotel enjoys convenient access to all parts of the city with the Shanghai Metro Lines 1/2/8 less than 30 meters from the hotel. Moreover, the hotel is bordered by major cultural and entertainment highlights within walking distance, such as Nanjing Pedestrian Road, People's Park, the Raffles City, the Shanghai Museum, and the Shanghai Grand Theatre. This hotel attracts guests with its private and graceful environment instead of the splendid and magnificent impression. The stained glass dome looks so gorgeous with carved staircase winding up. The candlelit crystal lighting collocates with palatial valance creating the elegant and sumptuous atmosphere. The unique collections displayed on the wall of guest room floor corridors, such as jewelry boxes, manual-shaving-hair tools, ancient door latch, traditional pipes, ladies' hand bags, Hawksbill needles, cookie boxes, etc, all tell guests the history of Shanghai. Entering each room, the song " Rose, Rose, I love you" reminds each guest of the prosperity of the old Shanghai with its sweet voice and nostalgia melody. Standing on the guest room private balcony, you could feel the quick pace of the modern city while retrospect the past good times at the same time.Yangtze Hotel, the predecessor of The Yangtze Boutique Shanghai, opened in 1934, owns 80 years of history. Decorated with lavish art deco style, this hotel was touted as "The Third Largest Hotel in the Far East" by the renowned architect, Li Pan. This hotel used to be a popular social resort gathered many celebrities and movie stars, and it was exactly the birthplace of the most classic and well-known song "Rose, Rose, I love you". In order to inherit this cultural heritage, Yangtze Boutique reserves this song as the background music in the room, and names one suit of room as "Rose Suite" to be one of the signature of the hotel, which becomes the favorites of many guests. Over the past 80 years, the Yangtze Hotel witnessed the ups and downs of Shanghai. In 2009, the Yangtze Hotel was renovated gorgeously and re-emerged in a great sumptuous way, reserving the classic Art Deco design style while mixing the 1930s old Shanghai style together. Just like the time flying back, The Yangtze Boutique Shanghai guides guests back to the glamorous and extravagant life in old Shanghai with great charm and elegant demeanor. ... more   less
