“I Could Live Here”
Reviewed October 17, 2012

Finally found a hotel room that I never wanted to leave! Our room was beautiful, the bed was heaven, the service was impeccable, over the top even. The lobby staff were so efficient and friendly, special kudos to lobby manager Martin. The doormen were always helpful, the concierge quite efficient with helping us plan an itinerary with the places we wanted to visit. The room amenities were wonderful: a fully complimentary mini bar, complete with nespresso machine, hot water pot, tea things (strainer, pot, cups, etc.), little jars of nuts, M&Ms, and Chinese White Rabbit. The bath supplies were top shelf, with separate totally contained shower and toilet units, his and hers sinks, and a tub. There was a room divider so you could enclose just the bedroom, and dining table area. Totally professional staff, that went above and beyond. Fresh orchids in the room. Bose dock for your Ipod or Iphone, free wi-fi. Tea in the lobby was superb. Cocktails in the library wonderful. It was like being in someone's tastefully decorated Asian home. and last but not least, the LONG BAR. The pool was also beautiful, as well as the spa, but did not try the amenities. I will run out of words here to describe this place. It is in a relatively quiet and serene area of Shanghai, just off Jing An Park. Taxi rides everywhere were no more than 20 yuan. I would love to come visit again and again.

Dear TwinMamaNYC,

Thank you so much for your wonderful words.
Apart from Team Puli looking after you well; I was particularly taken by your remark: “…It was like being in someone’s tastefully decorated Asian Home...” what a great compliment. Thank you.
Johannes Hartfuss, our interior designer, of Layan.net in Melbourne has also designed our next hotel, The PuYu in Wuhan, Hubei province. Watch this space!
Until we meet again.

The Puli lives up to its name and hype of being the ultimate urban resort - once you enter the hotel, you totally forget the hustle and bustle of Shanghai. The design of the hotel is amazing, all my friends and customers I've put up there have ended up requesting for our meetings to be held in the outdoor area which makes you feel like you're in a resort. Totally relaxing. The Nespresso machine is a nice touch and makes all my Italian guests really happy :) The room design is very well-thought out of, the only grouse I had was that the toilet paper provided in the rooms was SO rough (the really cheap kind that scratches your a$$) so that was a little surprising. The food at the Jingan Restaurant is awesome and the spa will blow your mind :) Location is great - subway's just outside and there are some great restaurants in the vicinity that are just a short walk away.

Room Tip: Try to request for a room facing the Jingan Park. Really nice and zen.

Stayed here as part of my research on new hotels 2 years ago. Great amenities that came along with the room: cellphone, coffee maker, programmed shades, etc. Design wise, the hotel is very chic, minimalist with a touch of neo oriental style. If you like armani hotel dubai, you would probably like this hotel too. Well, not on par, but close.

The room we stayed at had a separated bed and a small living room. Ordered room service and they set up a nice dinner for us in the room. The food was mediocre but worth the experience.

Service was great given the fact that it's in China. But can't compare to -say- korea or thailand.

We stayed for four nights at the Puli and found it to be an absolutely delightful experience. We've found that often with Chinese hotels, even five-star ones, the service can be rather lack-lustre, but that is definitely not the case at the Puli - the service was highly professional and staff were very helpful, and speak reasonably good English. The Puli hotel itself is uniquely decorated to have a very tranquil and calming feel, rather than the more commercial feel emanated by many of the big chain hotels (e.g. the Hilton) which I found much more preferable. It is a real delight to return to at the end of each day. Location is also fantastic. Highly recommended to everyone.

Dear ttia012,

Thank you for letting us know of your experiences after having travelled from afar to join us here in Shanghai. We have done away with the idiosyncrasies others portray in their offerings: most of what you would expect and more is included in our room rates. I am happy to read that you believe it sets us apart from conventional hotels. Team Puli I know are very happy to learn you were happy here!

This is a hotel that makes your stay in Shanghai absolutely wonderful! The breakfast is fantastic, the rooms are super comfy, the bathroom oh so nice. Needless to say, very clean with great wi-fi. Service staff can be a little patchy, I am surprised I would expect excellent training from the bell hop all the way up for this standard of hotel.....i needed to get sthg from my luggage which was in holding bc my room was not ready, and the bellhop actually took me to the holding area (which obviously was not very nice at all), and put my bag on the concrete floor and waited for me to open it there to get my items! Yikes!

Location is great bc the hotel is right next to the train station for those of us who would rather brave the crowded trains than to be stuck in traffic jams.

Dear DogbertBlackie,

Thank you for posting a review on TA. Wonderful to learn you have enjoyed your stay with us. I very much appreciate you bringing your experiences at the luggage store to my attention: we have naturally re-iterated our standards to all bellboys and girls.
And yes, the hotel is adjacent to JingAn Temple metro station for Line 2 and Line 7. Off peak, I always take Line 2 to HongQiao Train Station or Airport for my own travels. Unbeatable transfer time of around 40 - 45 minutes!
Hope to welcome you back soon to the hotel.
Until then happy travels.

Best regards,
Martijn van der Valk

Stayed here for two nights on our first trip to Shanghai. Very convenient if you're flying in and taking a metro from PVG as there is an exit right next to the hotel. Once inside the lobby is very expansive and makes you take a moment to relax and enjoy the spa-like atmosphere. Rooms are very large with a lot of neat gadgets and amenities. Complimentary mini-bar was a huge plus! Blackout curtains let you get a good night's rest before you start another day of sightseeing. One of my favorite hotels of all time.

Stayed for 2 nights on the 19th floor. Great view, huge rooms, amazing beds and the best of all is the complete black-out electronic system they have which guarantees a perfect night sleep!
Location is perfect in the French Concession. morning breakfast in the lobby is good.
The only thing they could improve is the check-in time. takes a bit too long.
great experience and will definitely go back!

Dear eolopinion,
Thank you for posting a review on TA. We escort all our guests to their rooms personally, not only as a courtesy but also to introduce the facilities of the hotel and the rooms. If indeed check-in at reception is a little busy then this can add up a bit; I can well imagine. Please let us know for your next stay that you would like an express check-in and we will make all preparations in advance so that you do not even have to pass by reception for formalities! You simply enjoy an in-room check-in. All our guests who book (airport / railway station) car transfers always enjoy this convenient benefit.
Or even try The Club next time where our guests have to think of very little else other than to simply arrive!

Thank you and best regards,
Martijn van der Valk
