“Luxury in the middle of the city”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

Stayed here for two nights on our first trip to Shanghai. Very convenient if you're flying in and taking a metro from PVG as there is an exit right next to the hotel. Once inside the lobby is very expansive and makes you take a moment to relax and enjoy the spa-like atmosphere. Rooms are very large with a lot of neat gadgets and amenities. Complimentary mini-bar was a huge plus! Blackout curtains let you get a good night's rest before you start another day of sightseeing. One of my favorite hotels of all time.

Stayed for 2 nights on the 19th floor. Great view, huge rooms, amazing beds and the best of all is the complete black-out electronic system they have which guarantees a perfect night sleep!
Location is perfect in the French Concession. morning breakfast in the lobby is good.
The only thing they could improve is the check-in time. takes a bit too long.
great experience and will definitely go back!

Dear eolopinion,
Thank you for posting a review on TA. We escort all our guests to their rooms personally, not only as a courtesy but also to introduce the facilities of the hotel and the rooms. If indeed check-in at reception is a little busy then this can add up a bit; I can well imagine. Please let us know for your next stay that you would like an express check-in and we will make all preparations in advance so that you do not even have to pass by reception for formalities! You simply enjoy an in-room check-in. All our guests who book (airport / railway station) car transfers always enjoy this convenient benefit.
Or even try The Club next time where our guests have to think of very little else other than to simply arrive!

Thank you and best regards,
Martijn van der Valk

Hotel Puli is quite a dream-place. Well, in a way Shanghai is.
All the hotel premises are fantastic. Highly advised: have a cocktail in the outside bar.
My rooms, 22nd floor, was incredible. The view was breathtaking. Everything extremely confortable. Restaurant ok but a little expensive. Breakfast excellent.
Spa is nothing but ok, pool very beautiful.
Boring lounge music all over the main concierge room (impressive place), lifts, spa...
Excellent position... HIghly advised!!

Dear Mr JohnSteiner,

Thank you for calling our great city and our hotel a “Dream-place”. We are very happy to read that you have enjoyed your stay with us.
On Thursdays our Puli DJ (from our fantastic friends at Lola!) puts some extra spring in your step when you have a drink and something to eat in our Long Bar, on our Garden Terrace or in our Library.
Happy travels!

I just stayed here in a Deluxe Room (1802) for 1 night on sep 20. Paid $213.31 via expedia incl. a small trip advisor promo code total after all taxes fees etc.

The room I stayed in is a south facing corner room (all *01 and *02) ones are I think which has view of the highway down below BUT I had no noise whatsoever.

This place is hands down the most beautiful hotel I've had the pleasure of staying in! the driveway, entrance, hallway, lobby, library, gym, lockers, pool, and of course rooms are so well designed it just makes you feel elegant and luxurious, both me and my gf agrees. It is really a business hotel but honestly the awesome awesome.

staff was also extremely courteous and friendly!

We really enjoined our time here, almost didn't want to go out and see the city haha

My favorite perk about this hotel: the mini bar is entirely free!!!!! this include the two bottles of wine, the evians san pellegrinos, perrier, etc. you have to remember, this is shanghai, china has HUGE tax import duties and this place tends to overcharge for luxury items on top. lol the free minibar itself is like a 200rmb/30dollar value! :>

only con: the workout room only has assisted weight machines, I didn't find a simple pull/up chin up bar :(

Room Tip: The Grand rooms are about 20$ more than the Deluxe Rooms but has 2 extra square meters and face west...

I spent two nights at the Puli in September. The hotel is located in the JingAn district. What's nice is you don't find the touts flogging 'shopping, watches, massage' like you do on Nanjing East Road by the Bund. This is all Gucci, LV, etc. Of course the area has lots of great local shops too. It's not all designer, but is nice. The area also has some of the city's best restaurants and seems pretty comfortable with westerners. Lots of great options within walking distance.

The hotel is across the street from one subway line and just down the block from another. Transportation was very convenient. The staff was very good about making sure your cab driver knew where you were going. Very friendly guys.

The hotel was modern without feeling cold or overdone. The rooms were large and well designed, comfortable. There was a tub by the window and a separate shower room toward the back of my room with another for the toilet. Everything was fairly easy to figure out. I never heard any street noise or a peep from the hallway. My room overlooked nearby construction but it was never a problem. There was a free mini-bar in the room which was nice for a jet-lagged snack.

You really feel like the city slows down as you enter the lobby. The Puli is a great hotel if you want to come home from a long day of sightseeing, business, or whatever and take a swim, steam or sauna. They have separate-sex spa facilities and a shared pool. I went in the morning and was always the only one there. I never got a massage or treatment but heard lots of people ordering them. There was a fitness room too, but i stuck to the pool and jacuzzi. A great way to start the day.

I had the breakfast both mornings. The first day they said I had to pay which wasn't cheap but still very nice for what it cost. The second day the waitress said it was included in the room and I didn't need to pay. Who was I to argue? Lots of choices, both hot and cold. Great fruit and pastries.

Staff was all very friendly and the lounges were comfortable. Wi-fi was free in the room but not always the speediest.

I also stayed two nights at Les Suites Orient on the Bund. That's a more boutique hotel but also recommended. I would say the Puli is more swank. It's also much more convenient for shopping, restaurants, and transportation, but Les Suites is nice if a Bund view/location is important to you. I liked the combo of some time in JingAn and some time down by the river.

Dear IncurableTraveler,

Thank you for your detailed description of your experiences at the Puli Hotel and Spa. On a beautifully sunny day we walk along Nanjing West Road from the hotel to The Bund: truly a great way to explore the city ending in a great treat: lunch on the river!
Happy travels!

The Puli Hotel is an excellent hotel with great modern design. It feels stylish and trendy without the usual problem of design hotels were the design is often more important than the guests. Here service is impeccable, warm and very friendly. They make you feel at home. The rooms are very spacious and grand. The gym, pool and spa are fantastic and the garden terrace in the summer months is a stylish retreat from the sometimes chaotic Shanghai outside. The location of the hotel is great within walking distance to the major boutique shopping streets of the French Concession and a luxury mall next door. Ask for a room facing Jingnan Park and you will have a fantastic view over the park and the golden roofs of the nearby temple. I have stayed at the Puli many times over the last few years and I am always anxious to come back.

Room Tip: Club rooms facing Jingnan Park

The PuLi Hotel and Spa was an amazing experience. The design of the property is exquisite, such a respite from the hustle and bustle of Shanghai. The staff are incredibly warm and friendly and they speak English well which cannot be said for many hotels in Shanghai. The room was very spacious, always clean and beautiful in design. I especially loved looking out over the park and seeing all the locals exercising in the morning. The long bar is a fantastic concept, the simplicity of the whole experience is majestic. There is an elegance to the property, a definite feel of luxury, but without it being over the top and all too fussy which is exactly the expericne I look for when traveling for business. Can't wait to come back and enjoy some more.
