I saw some less than perfect reviews for this hotel but decided to try it anyway because of the location close to the airport and the free shuttle. I was very pleasantly surprised in every regard. It seems that there was a recent renovation that brought the hotel into top condition.
If you know where to find to shuttle (Terminal 1 door 9, Terminal 2 door 23) then you are all set. The shuttle was already waiting at door 9 and each time I took it, it was right on time. It takes less than 5 min to the hotel. The hotel has a big lobby with sweeping stairs and palm trees, which gives it a pleasant exotic style. My room was in excellent condition, good A/C, small balcony with some views of the distant highrises of downtown, the Maglev train and the ocean. They still have an old CRT tv, not a flat panel, but who cares. Food downstairs looks standard and not cheap, but I had beer and some small bites at happy hour, which was fine. The maglev takes you half-way downtown in a few minutes and with the subway it is another few stops to most attractions (1 day pass 85 renminbi).
If you have a short layover in Shanghai then this is an excellent choice.

Very cheap to stay, free airport shuttle, 5 mins from airport.
Room was dated but clean and basic. They are however renovating and I expect once all rooms are complete it will be great.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your recent stay at the Ramada Pudong Airport Hotel Shanghai. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us.
We look forward to making each of your stays a memorable one.
I needed a hotel for an overnight layover and the Ramada was the only half way decent option. And it is just that - half way decent at best. Rooms are old - like an older Ramada in the US. Bathroom is very small and dated. For the price I expected much more but you are obviously paying for the convenience. After staying at so many fantastic hotels in China my expectations were higher.
I had an overnight layover in Shanghai, so this hotel was perfect for me, just between terminals 1 and 2 of Pudong Airport Shanghai, the price was right. The major complaint I have is with the conditions of the room. It looked as if the carpet hadn't been vacuumed in weeks, the sheets had wholes, the interiors were badly kept. Otherwise it would be a perfect choice for short stays.
