Fu 1039 is a 1930s mansion located in an alley.Fu means happy while 1039 is the street address. The restaurant name reflects the mood inside as you'll have an enjoyable time savoring traditional and unique Shanghai dishes, which are its specialty and very delicious.
The interior is very charming and the restaurant is not pretentious at all. Traditional Shanghai dishes are light and sweet. I enjoyed the fried sweet fish and lotus with sticky rice. I also tried for the first time the cold chicken with wine infused ice placed on top of it. I also had soup with tofu, mussels and mushrooms. For dessert, I enjoyed the Chinese dates cake (jujube), sweet bean with lotus and almonds and orange yogurt in a pumpkin.
I highly recommend this place and I'll surely return and check out the other dishes. If you'd like to experience old Shanghai, I recommend coming here.
