“Superb Location and Value for $$$”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

I have stayed at The Bund Riverside hotel for 1 night at Grand View Room during my visitation at March 2013. This hotel i'll strongly recommend to my friends as the locations ( near to Nanjing Road - 5min walk, The Bund - 10min walk ) it's well central for all the well known locations in Shanghai. As for the room rates, it's consider affordable in a city like Shanghai. I have choose Grand View room mainly because this room have a 180 degree view for me to enjoy of. Anyway i'll sure go back to this hotel again if i'm going to Shanghai again.

Room Tip: Min must go for room with windows view

I only spend 2 nights here on transit with my father and we choose this hotel. The room we booked was the one with the river view. Paid slightly more for it but it had a great view! It snowed a little on the first night and the view from the top was great in the morning. We could see Pearl Tower from our hotel room, and see the buildings light up at night. The room was also huge and comfortable.

The location is good too. Walking distance to Nanjing Road shopping area and the subway. You can also walk to the Bund. We got to the hotel by subway from the airport and had no troubles finding it. Reception was quite helpful, most of them speak minimal English so those who do not know Mandarin may have some trouble communicating. Some of the staffs speak good English though.

We tried the Chinese breakfast but was not impressed by it. Wouldn't recommend it if your room does not include breakfast.

The room I was in was slightly tight (at the end of the king bed) but had a small window-box where you can observe the Blade Runner-esque cityscape. Nice spacious clean bathroom. There are huge corner units available but lack the view. Quiet. Great location, not far from the pedestrian area where you can shop until the night or watch locals do a fan dance or tai chi in the morning. People are friendly but beware the touts trying to sell watches and bags there. I felt safe walking alone in the area. Breakfast included was fine. I was with a small group and local guide so didn't have to worry about language.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a river view!!!

Shanghai was our first stop in China and this hotel is in a great location to walk around and get acclimated to a new culture. The hotel is only a few minutes walk to the Nanjing Road pedestrian shopping area. Go early in the morning and watch the locals ballroom dancing and doing Thai Chi. The hotel is only a slightly longer walk to the Bund. The neighborhood is safe to walk, even at night. Pick up a business card at the front desk of the hotel in case you wander too far (or get lost) and need to catch a cab.

Our room had been remodeled and was very clean and spacious. We were used to small European hotel rooms and were pleasantly surprised that all of the hotels we stayed at in China had large rooms, even by US standards.

Breakfast was included with our room. The restaurant was a bit worn, but the food was adequate. They tried to anticipate western breakfast preferences and some of the items didn't translate well. Keep an open mind and try some of the less western dishes. You won't go away hungry.

I would definitely stay here again.

The location is really good, walking distance to all the main areas that you would want to visit in Shanghai. If you don't stay at this hotel get one in the same area.
Taxi from the airport Cost us 171 RMB and the return trip was 195RMB
Positives -
I only paid 45 USD a night which I thought was great value.
The room quality was high and the rooms were clean.
Good cable TV.
Negatives -
The internet did not work.
The staff spoke little to no English
customer Service was 3/5 by China standards (1/5 by western standards)
The restaurant(s) are expensive and of poor quality.
There is no airport delivery and pick up service despite it being advertised

Room Tip: Ask for a non smoking room.

The hotel is located very well in the Bund. Our room had an excellent view to the Budong. Room was clean and spaceous enough. On the 18th floor you can find a hotels restaurat with great view but poor food. I would happily visit the hotel and Shanghai again.

The hotel is located on the side of Nanjin Pedestrian Street and hence has great location wherein it is easy to walk till Nanjin Road and shop / eat / roam around.

The hotel is quote old and hence the construction of the room is also old.
The rooms are small in size, and the television used by them is still the conventional type.

Pros:
Its economical, its walking distance from the Pedistrian Street

Cons:
It has small rooms, the rooms are old, the breakfast is not a lavish spread

Room Tip: The river view rooms has nothing special to offer. They face the river which is dull and almost like...
