“Nearby the exhibition center”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

Stayed there for 3 nights.. I was in Shanghai for the exhibition.. the hotel is not far from the center.. a taxi ride would only take 5 minutes to get to the exhibition center... The bed is not really that comfortable but still ok to sleep.. the shopping area is nearby.. there's also a halal restaurant not far away, in front of Radisson Blue hotel..

The whole purpose of staying at IBIS for me is to get a sense of familiarity. In this aspect, the room layout, colour coordination is identical to the other IBIS hotels that I stayed in China. As this is not really in the heart of Shanghai but Pudong, the room is slightly larger. In this room of mine, I even have a window that can actually be opened. It's overlooking at giant sports field with high apartments at the far end. Believe me, this is a true luxury in China, the sense of space and the ability to see blue sky and inhaling fresh air. Just like all other IBIS hotels that I stayed in thus far, maintenance doesn't seem to be the strength of Chinese. The carpet at the corridor starts to look faded. There are chips here and there in the room that a fresh coat of paint would fix easily. Because I speak Mandarin, I didn't have any issue in checking-in but I could empathise with other reviewers here who struggled to interact with the Front Counter staff. There ain't any Wi-Fi in the room but as long as you bring with you Internet connector, you shall be fine. Otherwise, you can use Wi-Fi at the lobby area. There are three desktops that are available to the guest patrons for free but two of them are broken when I was there earlier. In terms of location, this hotel is across from the Thumb Plaza (a large shopping area) where you can find Carrefour, McDonalds, KFC, Uniqlo, Zara. There is a high number of Westerners congregating at this area and this IBIS is tucked at rear but taxi driver shouldn't have an issue in finding it. One annoyance of staying at IBIS hotels in China is that gigolos keep stuffing their business cards through the door crack in hoping for us to solicit prostitutes. The strangest aspect of the whole ordeal is that two of the three lifts require key cards to enable guests to use the lift BUT not the middle lift. Thus, this problem! By the way, there's no kettle, hair dryer in the room but there are two pillows. At another IBIS hotel that I stayed in, it has one spare pillow and when I asked for a spare one, the request was turned down. So much for IBIS' 15 minutes promise to solve our problems and to make us happy....For an overnight stay to catch my morning flight, this will do but it could have been better.

Room Tip: Ask for the room that's facing the sports field. Quieter!!

Hotel is not as bad as it seems to be.
Allowed for early check-in at 0900hrs.

Room conditions:-
1. Small and manageable for Asia size (especially for the toilet)
2. Clean bed but dirty floor.
3. Small wardrobe
4. No Wifi in room. Internet connection is very weird. You will face problems at night in surfing but day time is okay. The problem is how often you will be in the room during daytime.

Location:-
1. You can find great restaurants within 1 min walk distance.
2. About 30 min walk to the Shanghai New International Expo Centre.
3. Taxi driver will miss the entrance to the hotel easily.
4. About RMB120 to 150 to get to the hotel via taxi from Pudong Airport.

Others:-
1. Forget about having breakfast here. Just take a walk outside and enjoy the expresso at the cafe nearby.
2. No facilities.

I booked online of a double room at Hotel Ibis Shanghai Lianyang at the recommendation of a friend for 2 nights on Nov 25th and 26th. The rate was rmb 300 for 25th and jumped to rmb 520 for 26th as there was a trade expo in nearby expo center. When I checked in at 6:30 that evening, I was told by the receptionist that there was no such booking. After I showed her the booking confirmation in my e-mail on my smartphone, it took her 20 minutes or so to find my booking. The room had no wifi, and the Internet line and the phone did not work. There is no ventilation in the bath room cubical:( Ibis advertises breakfast of rmb 1.00. When the two of us took breakfast in the morning at 9:30 am, there was hardly any food left which was cold. It was one of the worst breakfasts I ever had. I checked out after one night, cancelling my booking for a second night. Upon checking out, I was told the rmb 1.00 breakfast was for 1 person only; I ended up paying rmb 30.00 for the second person - even though my booking was for a double room. It appeared there was liitle or no supervision from its touted French management. In the morning when we checked out, there were two taxis waiting by the entrance. The security guard told us not to take the cab as we were going into the western part of Shanghai which is not so far away. I was later told that there are unscrupulous taxi drivers who would temper with the meter, overcharging the hotel guests; often "foreigners". Beware of taxi waiting long time at hotel front for "foreign" guests!

Room Tip: Avoid this hotel if you can help it!

I stayed in this hotel from 13-16 Nov 12, attending FHC 2012.

Here are the comments;

Location:
- 20min drives from Pudong airport.
- situated at Fangdian Road next to PLAZA LAYA (Lianyang Plaza).
- Surronded by a few chain restaurant "Su Zhe Hui, Chiau Jiang Nam" and other with decent Shanghai food.
- opposite to "Big Tumb" mall with Carrefour and some shopping outlets
- Very near Shanghai Exhibition centre, 5 min by taxi.

Hotel
- basically, u need to communicate in Chinese as other language understanding is really poor with the staffs.
- Checking in is ok.

Rooms
- Was given a 12 floors rooms with nice view of the schools with free morning call at 7.45am when the kids were having morning exercise..quite interesting with loud musics
- Clean rooms and beds. Solid and firm beds, no funny odour on pillows, small capsule type bathroom, with paper cups..ha..ha..
- Daily cleaning is also decently clean with new towels
- Small LCD TV with very little choice of channels
- Room cabel internet is fast, but will limit access to some website eg: Facebook
- Aircon

Service
- i would say, no other service will be provided
- Booked thru agoda with no breakfast, got to go opposite to KFC or McD for breakfast as the decent one only open at 10am for brunch
- lending an unbrella cost u RMB 100 as deposit
- Mineral water in the rooms is chargeable
- Provide late check out to 1pm upon request
- EXTRA service provider (call girls) will always surprise u with their name cards slots on top of your room's door..Sucks!

I would still recommend to those who wanted to visit the Expo as it is convinient.
As we had 2 business dinner after the show in the restaurant near the hotel as it is the best place to dine during peak hours to travel out of Pudong.

Please refer to some pic taken.

Thanks, Hope my review is helpful

Room Tip: Get a high floor rooms..view is better

This was my worst hotel stay to date and i will never book into this hotel again nor will i stay at an Ibis again. I booked a non smoking room and was given a smoking room. The towels were old and had holes in them, there was no hair dryer in the room and i was told there were non available eventually i got a hairdryer with a melted outer casing, not very safe. There were paper cups for tea, no milk or sugar, no fridges in the rooms, my bottled water was not sealed, no wifi in the room, but a desk top cable which i had to hold in my laptop while working to keep the connection. The safe that checked us in were unpleasant and not helpful. Plenty prostitute cards under my room door every night and came across one in the corridor out side my room. The airconditioner was bearly functional and did not cool most of the time. Reception did not answer the phone often in the evening, they seemed short staffed, no direct dialling to housekeeping either. towels were sent to laundry but no new towels put in the room. I would consider this as a step up from a back packers and not suitable for a business traveller. The location however was great, next time i will rather stay further out at a better hotel!
