I had heard amazing things about this place, but was a bit underwhelmed to discover that it was a drab restaurant in an anonymous shopping mall in Xintiandi. The food was incredible though. Pork and crab dumplings were delicious in a super thin wrapper and the pork chop was cooked perfectly.

Do pop in, you'll taste what all the fuss is about.

Had lunch at the Dragongate Mall branch- 168 Fangbang Road near Yuyuan Gardens. The service was wonderful. All attendants looked happy to serve. The food was high quality. Try the mango shaved ice dessert for 55 Yuan (enough for 3 people). My 10 and 6 year old sons needed to go to the toilet. A staff member personally took them down to the B1 level toilets and escorted them back. I was impressed.

Din Tai Fung is a chain of restaurants based in Taiwan, and I heard they serve the best Xialongpao (meat dumpling with soup inside--something you don't miss while in Shanghai), and yes, it was good! The price is a bit expensive, but still affordable. I went to the one in Xintiandi (best place for dining and bars in Shanghai).

Great dumplings, especially the soup (Xiao Long Bao) and the truffle ones, and not too greasy or oily. Very clean and the service is next to none. Just be prepared to pay for it.

the price is pretty high compared with the local's one. quality is good, plus they offered the taro's steam bun which is not common to see in the local's dim sum restaurants.
