Everytime I go to Din Tai Fung I always leave happy and well fed. The dumplings are the best as are the noodles with scallions and soy sauce. Always have the same dishes and are never disappointed. Every time I have visitors in Shanghai, Din Tai Fung is a must! I seek this chain whoever I am in the world and find Shanghai one of the best quality of food and service.

This is actually a taiwanese dumpling place which is priced really reasonable. The service is great and the food quality as well. The restaurant is on the first floor and the seating is medium, try and get a seat by the window.

We were taken to this branch of Din Tai Fung by friends who has been living in Shanghai for more than 8 years and we were certainly not disappointed. The xiao lung boa were absolutely delicious and the other dishes we ordered were just as good. Certainly the best boas we had after trying different branches in various countries. We went twice within the week we were in Shanghai after trying other famous xiao lung boa places.

We weren't sure what we were getting ourselves into when we decided to go to Shanghai's newest DTF restaurant instead of a more established branch but the food was fantastic and comparable with its older locations. Note: We live in Beijing and find that the DTFs in Shanghai are a lot better than the ones in Beijing, which generally serve up dried-out and chewy soup dumplings.

Of course it is all about the dumplings here and we ordered 5 different types to share, along with the usual staples of soup noodles and egg white fried rice, all of which were delicious. The dishes could be served quicker though - there were slightly long intervals between the various dumplings. Our server was polite and cheerful, a rare find in mainland China. Weekday lunchtime reservations are not accepted but this particular location seems less crowded than the other branches.

The last reviewer seems to have a gripe with Din Tai Fung in general. As well travelled
gastronomes, we think Din Tai Fung have got it bang on the nose!

Whilst not understanding the Chinese language limits our opportunities, for visitors like us, who have little time to scour the listings, or take a chance on a back street dumpling restaurant, this chain is perfect.

We loved every minute of our experience here. The food was fabulous, the staff attentive, and the fact it was in a shopping mall didn't put us off at all. We loved the ceremony of it all…and we both adored the dumplings with truffles.

The place was packed; testimony to its popularity, I guess?!
