I heard about a coworker waxing lyrical about the panna cotta at Glismatten so took pains to track it down in Tianzi Fang. I went there twice - once late at night and once in the afternoon.

In the late night, the restaurant was cozy and had booths to house 4 people comfortably. There were a lot of guestbooks and diaries on the table for visitors to write their comments and we read about the most intimate parts about other people's lives in those diaries! Some took to pouring their relationship woes and proclaim undying love in those diaries and it was a little exhilarating to be able to imagine a person sitting in the very same booth as I am years and months ago, writing about themselves. Great concept!

The panna cotta wasn't the greatest I've tried but it had a rather good selection - blueberry, strawberry, chocolate etc and it wasn't bad at all. I had my best panna cotta in Paris and it is hard to beat the Parisians in desserts like these. I like how cozy and homely the place is. It is a pleasure to be sipping a good tea, munching on some bruschettas and talking with friends. It was also not crowded after the shops had closed for the day. In the afternoon, the restaurant is teeming with people, presumably with tourists like me trying to get out of the sun. They have also thoughtfully included some travel books on Shanghai for tourists to go through. The banana split although seemingly normal, had some really good flavours on that vanilla ice-cream that I still dream about! I also heard that the cheesecakes are wonderful. Don't hold me to it though!

If you ever go to Tianzi Fang and is looking for some place to rest your feet for awhile, why not bring a little of Glismatten's scottish presence into your life?

Food is good, the staff is very accommodating and the ambience is homey. Good for a friendly chat over food and drinks or just for resting your tired feet after exploring Taikang Lu. One of their specialty is the cheese fondue and it tastes good. Quite expensive for a small restaurant but maybe because it is in a touristy area. Would probably go back when we're around Taikang Lu.
