Classy ambience, good wine, good food. One of the better restaurants in all of Shanghai and definitely in Xin Tian Di. Not very expensive either.

We went there for the weekend Dimsum brunch today. Rather than the usual 98 rmb meal, we opted for the 128 rmb course which includes a glass of chilled white wine and a choice of the following - Peking duck, or shanghai crispy duck or chengdu smoked duck. We went with the Peking duck and it was very good - the only 'complaint' we had was that there were only five pancakes as there was only half a duck for the two of us. We also tried the hangzhou duck, which is smoked with tea - it was very good though had a little too much Hoi sin sauce. There were several hits, including minced pork with pine nuts, and the har kau and Siew Mai. Surprisingly though, there were several misses such as fried turnip cake, which was oily yet bland, and the tasteless shanghai fried dumplings. The desserts made up for this - the almond with fruits and the sago with fruits were excellent, while the mango pudding was a little sweet but well presented. If you crave dim sum, this is one of the better places in shanghai, which is good for family or business meals In a comfortable yet elegant setting. Service was prompt and friendly.

I went to Ye with colleagues from work. Now, I have to be upfront and state that Chinese food doesn't usually appeal to me, with certain exceptions. Perhaps that's the result of too many bad Chinese deliveries when I lived in New York City.

But this place rocked! The various dumplings -- fried, steamed, shrimp and pork -- were wonderful. The braised beef was delicious. And the various vege dishes were nice too. This place also has a great wine selection.

Not the cheapest of places, but highly recommended!

Our last visit to Ye Shanghai in Xintiandi was a sheer catastrophe. We went for their Sunday dim sum brunch with our 8-month-old little daughter. We were given a wooden baby highchair and sat her in it. A few minutes later the chair broke in pieces and our baby fell down on the floor. We were shocked and rushed her to a hospital to have her checked as she would not stop crying. Luckily she was fine. Nobody of the service staff cared about this disastrous incident nor would they find any words of apology or offer any help. After returning from the hospital we asked for the manager to discuss the incident. He was absent and the women in charge that day mumbled a half-hearted "sorry". That was it.
Aside from this horrible experience the service was below imagination. We received not even half of the dishes we ordered. We had waiting times without food during the brunch of more than 30mins. The dishes that made it to our table were often cold.
We will never be going back again as there are plenty of dim sum brunches of this kind in Shanghai and I think a place like this should best be shut down immediately.
