“Great price for its location”
Reviewed January 10, 2014

Stayed there last December and gladly there's vacancy for our group. The hostel is one of the cheapest yet decent places to stay near The Bund. It's also so convenient to walk around the Nanjing Road and access the train.

Rooms is spacious and clean. WiFi works fine. We had a comfortable stay.

Except for the location, there is absolutely no reason to stay there. It's rather expensive, old and not very clean. You can find a much better deals on the same budget (e.g. Mintown near People's Square or Blue Mountain).

The worst thing is the bar. I have no idea how this place is still open. Seriously, it's a mystery, defying the laws of business. Service sucks. I had a coffee there and my friend had a cup of tea (Lipton tea bag, 40RMB). When I asked for a glass of water they told me that they don't have hot water. I told the guy (in Chinese, so he definitely understood) that he just used hot water to make my friend's tea. He told me that my friend had to finish the tea first and we could add some hot water then. Ridiculous.

This place has one of the best views from a bar I have ever seen, and with very cheap drink prices. We went 3 times on different occasions (happy hour, afternoon, and late at night) and we were the only ones in the place. Stayed for a few beers and then left due to the depressing music they were playing. This place could be unreal, but didn't seem like anyone really cared! Disappointing for sure. Go for a drink, day or night, just to get some unreal pictures of The Bund however.

We stayed here in early October 2013 and we were rather happy with it. There was hair on the pillow case and the doona cover was a little dirty but you expect that for a youth hostel. The receptionist wasn't particularly helpful or nice so we weren't comfortable asking for directions or anything. We also wanted breakfast here but it doesn't start until 9 or 10am! The location is great though - close to everything. We didn't find it too noisy.

I have an horrible experience here, We reserved for four nights, the first night the recepcionist said us to sleep in a room that smell horrible, then we said that we want another room and the guy who's the receptionist in the morning shout us and said that it couldn't be... Finally we can move to an other room, the last night in a room for 8 people, we have another girl...9 people in one room, she slept next to me!
Horrible people in this hostel.

Stayed in a private room in this hostel. Under renovation. Drilling at 6.30am in next room on a Sunday. Carpet filthy. Bathroom floor filthy. Black mould. Shower...took10 mins for hot after to reach 6th floor. Also TV not working. Better places to be found for this price.

We stayed in a twin suite on the 6th floor. There were workers doing sawing, pounding and other work starting at 6:30 am. At 1:30 am, drunks from the bar were yelling in the hallway.

The bar is nice and has a nice view. It was cold but would have spent more time outside at the bar if it wasn't raining. The drinks were good, too. The bathroom for the bar is outside of the bar down the hall so drunk people were yelling in the hallway at 1:30 am. I would recommend someone to monitor the hallways when the bar is busy.

The location is great and the people were very nice. There is cable for your computer in the room, but no wifi. You need to go to the lobby to use the wifi.
