I stayed here for nearly a month and the housekeeping lady here were really friendly. Wifi was not great on the 22th floor, but reception were very nice to swap me to the 10th floor where I had not issue with the Wifi. Breakfast was ordinary and repititive. Staff eats from the same place.

To get to the HI Express Zhabei you can take a bus easily from the Airport. That way you´ll see how Shanghai is developing. There is a lot of traffic, but the buses are very comfortable.
When you get off the bus you will have your back to a McDonalds that is in part of a Holiday Inn that is not the HI Express Zhabei. Ýou´ll see the Holiday Inn Express Zhabei at the distance on the left side of the horizon. So you know you´re very near. You can ask for directions in the Holiday Inn on your back. I did.
If you decide to take a taxi, they´ll try to overcharge you (150yuans) for two blocks. No one wants to take you in the street for the 14-20 yuans that you should be charged. Occidentals are rich you know and they are communists; if you believe that.
If you insist on a taxi, walk across the street with your back to the McDonalds and you will see a sign of Taxi station underground. The should charge you 14 to 16 yuans to get to the hotel, using the taximeter. There is a long line for taxis.
Another option is just to go across to the Railway Station. You just have to go across the building in a straight line, but the bags have to go through X-rays.. There is an electric stairs to go up but not to go down on the other side. There are two elevators, but you need to get someone to activate them (employee). As soon as get out you will see another McDonalds. Walk towards it passing it on the right side. It sells ice cream.
Keep walking and you´ll see the other Mcdonalds and the Eyeglasses World. Walk pass them and you will see the Holiday Inn Express Zhabei. It doesn´t say Zhabei though.
If you came to the area using the subway system you´ll have to use almost the same directions, because you´ll be on one side of the Railway Station. By the way the subway station is called Railway Station. Not to be confused with the Railway Station for the trains that you have to walk across.
And remember that if you get in on the subway you have to walk through a tunnel full of people and go up the stairs with your bags. But is also doable.
About the hotel itself the most important facts are that there a strange odour in the bathroom. I think the water es being reused. Use the bottle water even to wash your teeth.
The breakfast unfortunately is not as hot as I would like. Many plates are not as good if they´re cold. Especially noodles. The variety is as many have written. Chinese and Occidental. Drink the coffee that looks like capucino. There is a lot of food, but arrive early for seats. I consider breakfast the most important food of the day and every day I was satisfied. And take and hour to have breakfast, so figure why people complain about a free breakfast paying 48 dolars for a hotel. You can complain that the noodle, the boiled eggs, the dumplins, the rice is not warm enough, but there is plenty of it.

Room Tip: Even if the rooms are non smoking, some smell of smoke. Ask to be changed immediately. If you are...

Stayed for a total of 3 nights, with 2 nights facing the beautiful Suzhou creek. Chose this place mainly because i have great stays at holiday inn express at Beijing back years ago and i am a member of this hotel chain. The location is not as near to the metro as i expected...it was a good 15min (start counting from the exit from metro) if you are lugging luggage trying to find the way on first visit...there are many exits in the subway and it is a long walk underground at subway, all these didnt help too...The best thing about this hotel is the comfy bed, wifi in room and the price! Oh yes, it's close to shanghai railway station, there are few trains traveling to Hangzhou/Suzhou, etc..thats a plus. The breakfast was really nothing to look forward to, but i like their coffee. I don think i will return, if i can get better location at similar price.

Room Tip: Choose room that face Suzhou creek

I stayed 2 night in this hotel. The price is cheap and its include breakfast. Distance to railway station is about 15 minutes which was tiring. The 2 things i like about this hotel is they have comfortable bed and a nice shower. The breakfast which is free is TERRIBLE. I didn't eat before such terrible hotel breakfast in my life. I know although is free i cant complain much but the staff really need to aware. Furniture in the room is quite old but still acceptable. Not so recommend to stay in this hotel.

The hotel is about 30-45 dollars per night. It is very cheap, particularly its convenient location. The hotel has a very good value: the breakfast is more like Chinese breakfast, with tea-flavored hard boiled eggs, steamed dumplings, steamed buns, fried rice, fried noodles, two kinds of porridge, some kind of green leafy vegetables and various Chinese pickles. It has sausages but it's the kind of sweet Chinese sausage. Its fish filet is heavily breaded fried and can be dry. But it also have simple basic salads such as cherry tomatoes, purple cabbages, cucumbers, and lettuce, whole wheat bread for you to toast yourself, fresh butter, jam, hotel milk, tea, cold milk and fruits such as watermelons and oranges. Its coffee is okay.
The room is with good size. The shower is very the kind of waterfall shower. But we always find it difficult to adjust and keep the right temperature.
The rooms are with wifi but sometimes the wifi signal isn't strong enough. However the front desk can provide a router with 100 yuan as deposit. The router really improves the wifi signal in the room.
Like many other Chinese hotels, the rooms are with central A/C. It can be extremely try in the room even we opened as much as possible of the outside window. The rooms on high floors with a view of the Creek are brighter though the trains come and go all the time.
It is not easy to get a taxi from the closet intersection as the taxi drivers are picky. They either want you to pay tripled amount of money or simply refuse to let you in.

Room Tip: High floor with the Creek view

Everything what can be expected in an Holiday Inn Express is available. The rooms are excellent and isolation and heating is ok. Breakfast is also very good. The location is not far from the train and metro station, but expect that you will need to take too many stairs up and down. It's the same for taxi: you need to walk (with suitcase) up and down before you find a stand near or under the station. The negative point is that the hotel couldn't call a taxi because it was rush-houre on the desk (8:30 am).
