The hotel has great amenities especially for those that are planning on an extended stay. There is a swimming pool but it is not in the same building. A little inconvenience since you have to step outside rather briefly to walk over to another connecting building for the pool. Not totally awful but you do have to step outside to connect to the other building. There is also a sufficient gym that has all the standard equipment in most gyms. There is a laundry room at your disposal so you can do laundry whenever you want. The hotel location is great as well, it is in the heart of all the shopping malls and eateries. Also, there is a restaurant called Fresh Element that is in the same building as the hotel. Very convenient, I can stroll down the elevator in my pj's to have breakfast. The food is good too. I had breakfast, lunch and dinner there and I have no complaints. A big beverage selection as well.
Now, bear in mind, the last I stayed at the Fraser was back in Dec 2011, so there were a few things that could be improved. There were a lot of things broken, the closet doors, the safe, the walls were all botched up but when I returned in 2012 I see the Fraser was undergoing construction. The lobby is so much prettier now. I didn't stay at the Fraser since they happen to finish renovation the day I arrived in Shanghai but check back again. I plan on writing another review after I have stayed at the new and improved Fraser Residence. On a last note, the rooms were very clean and the bed was comfortable.

The Fraser Apartments (the name of this hotel / residence / apartments seems at time confused) were a great place to stay in Shanghai. We took our three kids and had a two bedroom apartment with kitchenette which was very spacious. Breakfast was OK but not outstanding. However the staff were good and the rooms clean. I would stay there again as the location is great, being near the subway station and markets and French concession, its even just a long walk to the Bund past the main road shops. As is usual in China, language difficulties abound but the Fraser was no worse and better than most for English speaking visitors. The benefits were for kids as there is a good pool and tennis court which makes it a great option for families.

I spent my R&R as usual in Shanghai. My first time at this 'hotel' and can say, it is really very convenient, comfortable and well located. The unfortunate item is the traffic late at night, and mostly the taxis, who actually block the main avenue for customer pick-up, so, a lot of unnecessary use of the claxon by other drivers. I was told by the GM of the hotel, that after the refurbishment (closure: starts May till end October 2012), this should be resolved > be it by double glazing, and as well by stricter police traffic control - however the last seems a utopia.
The pool is OK ... (18 meters). I imagine that the 'Life Guard' is bored, because the pool is nearly empty all the time. The sauna could be refurbished.
Overall, Fraser Staff is professional .. from Reception to Housekeeping.
Keep up the good work, and make it even better.

Room Tip: The Fraser shall be refurbished from May till November 2012, and double glazing will be installed...

Been staying at this place for the past 3 biz trips to Shanghai. Used to stay at Holiday Inn at Pudong. The apartments are in a great location with ample food choices nearby. Also close to many shopping areas in the city and of course Xintiandi. Rooms are starting to look their age and the walls are thin. The 2 bedroom layout is great for families. Wifi is avail but not always working. Elements Fresh serves good sized portions for breakfast with healthy choices and fresh fruit juices are avail. Overall ambience is very cosy and will definitely book a return stay whether for biz or leisure.

Situated just by Huaihai road and 5 min from Xintiandi, the location of Fraser Residence is absolutely excellent or a short/medium long stay. Not too impressive gym and pool, but with a coffeeshop, restaurant and bar all in the same building it makes for a convenient stay even on those rainy Shanghai days.

I've been staying for 2 weeks with my wife in this residence, in order to prepare our future relocation in Shanghai.
The Fraser Residence is located at the south rim of People's Square and 1 block away from Huaihai Rd, which means that is just right in the middle of the city. The location makes it as a perfect base to start discovering the city, with a subway station at walking distance (5 minutes), lots of taxis around. And if you miss Western feelings, you can hop to Xintiandi in another 5 minutes walk.
The business center offers 4 computers to work (there is 1 printer) or surf the internet easily, and a coffee machine allows you to get your daily espresso fix. There is also a lounge with a pool table, fitness center. The manager told us there was a swimming pool when accessing the other building via the 6th floor.
One of the very good point of this hotel are the restaurants located at the 6th floor: Element Fresh and the Fat Olive, great alternatives to the Chinese and Asian restaurant in towns.
Regarding the room, it was definitely comfortable, despite furniture and decoration starting to get a bit old. We had a small 2-people appartment without washing machine, forcing us to get in the basement to do our laundry, but the kitchen is well equipped. There is a wifi connection for each room, and the signal is pretty good.
Eventually, nice staff but not the most knowledgeable concierge of the city. Considering this is more a residence than an hotel, this is fine.
Will definitely come back before settle down for good in the city.

Room Tip: Try to get a room in the higher floors to enjoy Shanghai skyline

Stayed overnight in this apartment-hotel. Great location as it is near restaurants, bars and shopping area. Room was big with 2 flat screen TVs, microwave oven, kitchen sink, etc. Breakfast was included. Food was ok but service was slow at the resto. Will likely stay here again on my next visit to Shanghai.
