“A must go food stop in Shanghai”
Reviewed June 8, 2012

This place has the best dumplings in Shanghai. I stop every month when I am in Shanghai. The line is long but moves fast and you need to share a table with others. But the food is worth it and so inexpensive. Get some vinegar and ginger to go with your dumplings.
Pork, Pork and Lobster, Pork and Prawn are all excellent. Feels like you are really in China eating here. Be sure to poke a hole in then dumpling and let it cool some. I have had a burnt tongue several times eating dumplings. It is soup and meat in a wonderful tasting dumpling.
Mmmm can't wait to go agian!!

“Yummmmm .....”
Reviewed May 14, 2012

We arrived early at around 11am (which was just as well), and had to wait in line for 15 minutes. While we waited, we noticed that there was only chinese menu on the wall, and the restaurant is tiny, and sharing tables is the norm. We bravely stepped up to the cashier, and then she pulled out the limited menu in english! Too easy! We ordered pork, and pork & prawn xiao long bao and a bottle of sprite, which came to less than $5, and took our seats. We didn't realise that you had to order the accompanying sauce (vinegar, ginger and a bit of rice wine) seperately, but luckily there werer two lovely young girls who spoke english at our table who helped us order this, plus an extra basket of pork & crab xiao long bao ($4). all the pork, and pork& prawn were now sold out .....
The pork, and pork & prawn were our favourites. The flavour was delicious. I'm dreaming of eating them now .......

“Must-eat!”
Reviewed May 6, 2012

Don't be daunted by the long lines, the tang baos are extremely heavenly and are a must-try when you're in Shanghai. There're several flavours, but you'll never go wrong with the original flavour.

“Excellent”
Reviewed April 12, 2012

This is a small place on Huanghe Street with 5 ladies feverishly making dumplings. Make your order and pay, then take a seat. It will take 15-20minutes for the dumplings to arrive as they steam them upon order but they are worth it. I would recommend going after the lunchtime rush around 2pm. 12-24 dumplings per person is NOT excessive; the dumplings are small, light and have nice thin casings. Then go across the road to Yangs for the fried variety!!

“Best bang for the buck”
Reviewed April 10, 2012

I can assure that Jia Jia is not the most delicate place for xiao long bao. Don't expect each xaio long bao is perfectly wrapped, but they certainly taste great! To me this place is even better than Nan Cheong at Yu Garden. Certainly best bang for the buck!
