White Sandy Beach Dive Resort
Reviewed October 8, 2012

I stayed at this resort for 2 nights in September 2012 after a recommendation from a fellow traveller i met. I have to say I was dissapointed from start to finish and it found it depressing staying at this resort compared to the other resorts we stayed at. There was nothing white and sandy about the beach here - it was brown and littered with rubbish. The bure were extremly dark and dingy and full of bugs. I found a massive tropical spider in my room when I checked in. During the night we were all bitten by bed bugs which is not what you expect when you go on holiday.
The dining room was horrible. Just like the bure, it was really dark and dingy. The food was absolutely awful and I had to survive on snacks while I stayed here.
Make no mistake this is NOT a dive resort and they don't offer diving or have any qualified diving instructors on sight. The activities on offer here consist of the mantaray snorkelling and that it is. We didnt want to do the trip but each morning at 06.30am the staff knocked on our door to try and get us to do it - how rude!
The staff were also the least friendly we came across in Fiji. At all the other resorts we stayed at, the staff took time to learn our names but the staff here barely spoke to us. It is a real shambles of a resort and I believe "Awesome Adventures" should take them out of their brochure because they do not come up to the same standards as the other 1 coconut properties we stayed at.
Avoid this resort at all costs, it is shabby, boring and ugly resort. There are much better resorts in the Yasawa islands for the same price which offer better bure, food, activities and staff.

Don't mistake it, this is a BUDGET '1 coconut' option, and for that, it is pretty good. Some of the more negative reviewers may have been better off in '2 coconut' accomodation. We stayed in one of the bures, which had a basic clean room, toilet and outdoor shower. The staff were awesome. Very polite and accommodating - the guys are pretty young and love to have a laugh and joke around - this may appeal to a bit of a younger crowd.

Meals are set and are decent enough - the portions were on the small side for some people, but there are snacks that you can buy. Beer is decently priced aswell.

The beach is not necessarily amazing, especially in comparison to other beaches in the region - you can walk over to 'Honeymoon' beach which is nicer.

I cannot recommend the manta ray trip enough. This was truly amazing.. the weather was terrible and many people did not want to go - a few of us went regardless, and could not stop raving about it (the manta rays don't care if it is raining :)

I'd definitely stay here again.

We travelled on a 1 coconut Awesome Adventures package. We found the resort very friendly. The bures were clean and simple. The snorkling at high tide is very good, though the beach is probably being harmed by having pigs and consequent effluent getting into the water at the far end of the beach. This was the best food on our budget holiday. If you are looking for somewhere small cheap and friendly where children can have fun (we had an 11 and two 14 year olds with us) then this is a good place to go. I have given it 4 stars based on what you can expect from a budget place.

White Sandy Beach resort is nothing like what its name describes. A more accurate description would be green sludgy beach and at low tide the whole place smells like a sewer. It is full of flies which whilst lying in a hammock is extremly irritating and not remotely relaxing. The rooms resemble traditionally built Fijian bures but when inside it become quite apparent that they are not only not traditionally built but are very porrly decorated and crammed with beds with very little floor space. The bedding looks like it would be more at home down the toilet and the bathroom left alot to be desired. The staff are nice enough and not unpleasant but for some reason they feel the need to impress what seems like a very false Fijian culture into the evening activities naming every game and dance possible the 'Bula Bula dance'. The food tasted liked it had been cooked by a rank amateur and the 'chicken curry' might aswell have been dog food as it was full of bones and there was a flee ridden cat who kept jumping on the table whilst we were eating which was very off putting. Needless to say we were meant to spend 3 nights on the island but after 1 I dont think you could have paid us to stay.

Room Tip: Good Luck...

White Sandy Beaches is a good resort on the Yasawas. This resort is one of the more reasonably priced and therefor you should not expect the Hilton!
We had a good Bure with very comfortable beds and one of the few cheaper resorts with mosquito net. The food was delicious and always plenty of it!
The staff were friendly and did try to resolve any issues we had. There is a good walk to the 'honeymoon beach' on the other side of the island where you can snorkle / sunbathe.
This is Fiji - if you take food into your room you will attract vermin - be a sensible and responsible traveller!

White Sandy Beach Resort is truly awful. Myself and my boyfriend have been travelling through South America prior to Fiji so have stayed in some really dirty and basic places but this place was ridiculous! The food is ok but there are so many flies in the eating area that its impossible to enjoy it. Its mainly staple food - rice/egg/soup/more rice. There is no electricity in the resort, they say there is allotted time slots in the morning and evening when the electricity will come on but it never did. You had to go ask at reception and the lady was so so rude and reluctant to turn it on for us. We wanted it turned on so we could have a shower with the door closed, not too much to ask I'd of thought (as the shower room was outside away from the dorm and there was no window or light when the door was closed - photo of how horrendous the shower was is attached below).

The main problem we had with this resort was the staff. Over the 2 days we were there we saw 5-6 members of staff BEAT, KICK, THROW ROCKS AT, SLAP IN THE FACE WITH A SLIPPER, HIT WITH STICKS, a small puppy (photo attached below). There were 2 dogs that were around the resort, the other older dog was treated well and looked healthy, but the one they beat was so skinny and ill looking..so we assumed he was just a stray because he was treated so badly, but turns out he wasn't. As we were waiting to leave the resort, a group of staff members were sitting together and the puppy walked past and one man kicked it so hard it and they all started laughing uncontrollably at this. My boyfriend went over straight away to let them now how unacceptable this was and how cruel is was. The manager said 'Oh he goes to the toilet on the sand'. Firstly, he just walked past not doing anything wrong and was kicked and they all found it funny? Secondly, it is a puppy that doesnt know any better and hasnt been trained cause its being abused. And thirdly, going to the toilet in the sand?? Outdoors? The puppy cant go to the toilet outdoors? We explained how disgraceful that is to do that anyway, especially infront of resort guests. Saying that we were the only two guests in the whole resort.
The staffs attitude was so bad. And I would be genuinely skeptical of the positive reviews below. The other resort on this island, Korovou Resort, is very nice! As is Bounty Island Resort, MantaRay and Naqalia on the other islands!

Room Tip: Dont stay here.

this was our first island hopping stop, and was what we expected!

This is a basic resort, please dont expect hot water or electricity at all hours! we were booked into the dorm but got upgraded to a bure. It was good size with mosquito nets and a toilet which seemed to take forever to flush! We also experienced one rat - partly as we had food in our room!

Activites are a little limited - but we did get fresh coconut to drink & watch geko man, they also do traditiional dancing in the evening and get everyone involved, we also had a bonfire! There is a resort right next door - you can use the facilities here (they have a pool) and they welcome you if you want to join in in the evening entertainment - just take a torch as the walk back to white sandy along the beach is dark!

The staff were very friendly and welcoming and would join us when it rained for a game of cards!

The food was ok - only thing i found was the rice was always served cold. during the wet season there are also a lot of flies!

They are also almost complete with a new 2 storey building which will be a restaurant/cafe/shop and have internet.
