After working endlessly for 12 months, i decided to take a break and travel with Feejee Experience around Viti Levu. On the second day we stayed at Uprising Resort, the staff were really friendly(bless them) and the food you gotta try the Tex Mex Pizza, its wonderful...what got to me was the land scaping/area, there is not one dirt on the ground and the flowers/plants are beautiful.
Alfie you are blessed with running such a beautiful place..

We had high hopes for Uprising after our friends stayed here in July. It seems a lot can change in a month.

- There is no free wi-fi. It has been replaced by Global Gossip a few weeks ago and costs a fortune. Pacific Harbour has an internet shop at $3 an hour which is better than the $2.50 for 15 minutes which Uprising charge. At the time of writing, Hostels.com still said they had free wi-fi and it was one of the reasons we came here. No apology or complimentary time was given. They wanted to charge me a dollar to print one page out.

- The breakfast is good...when it turns up. They are constantly running out of food and crockery. No-one seems to keep an eye on when things run low, meaning we had to ask several times for fruit, cups, more bread, etc. Also, the toaster is a deathtrap - you'll know what I mean when you see it. My girlfriend burnt her finger badly on it and asked for ice - it was given without question, suggesting that it is a fairly common request....

- Laundry is $16. This is 3 times the price of Pacific Harbour's laundrette for a bag.

- Food in general is variable. The curry was good, but the samosa/spring roll plate was average and the wedges were awful. Suggest eating in the harbour.

- The dorm beds are comfortable but it is a large dorm so take earplugs and be prepared for drunk people coming in at all hours (probably the same in all large dorms the world over). Dorm room is cleaned daily, but the showers are clearly not.

- Don't book tours here - they are much cheaper in Pacific Harbour.

- Water is $8 a bottle for 1.5l which is utterly insane. It costs $2.70 in the supermarket at the harbour.

All in all, it isn't a particularly friendly place to stay and the company wants to gouge every last cent from you. We moved to a double room in Tsulu for our last night and paid $10 than two dorm beds in Uprising. No breakfast, but no chance of burning your hand off either.

I'd avoid this place. It's obviously riding its previous success as the "upmarket" kid in town, but the plaudits have clearly gone to its head and now aims to fleece tourists as much as possible.

Bula Vinaka Rob,

Thank you for taking the time to review Uprising, your feedback is important to us. We sincerely regret to hear that the resort did not meet your expectations on a number of levels. Your points are understandable, and I would like to assure you that these points are valued.

You are right, we no longer have free wi-fi. This is quite common throughout Fiji and many hotels within our rating provide the internet services through a 3rd party. We have done our best to ensure our suppliers have been updated regarding this recent change and apologize you were not informed prior to your arrival. We are glad however that you were able to source a cheaper service within the Arts Village and one that was satisfactory and convenient to you, during your stay with us.

I am most concerned to hear about your experience at breakfast and have shared your comments with my chefs and supervisors. I thank you for bringing to our attention your concerns regarding our toaster and have instructed our supervisors to be more attentive and assist guests with this toaster as it is not of the domestic sort. We appreciate your positive comments regarding the curries as this is one of our more popular dishes. Vinaka.

With regards to our laundry service, this is provided on a per load basis both wash and dry, and not by item of clothing, which many resorts currently offer. This is the most affordable way to offer this 3rd party service to our guests through the resort, saving them the time and effort of going to the laundry themselves.

Our Dorm is quite popular and we receive a lot of positive feedback regarding this facility. It is disappointing to read about the bathrooms in your review. These are cleaned and refreshed daily however we are reviewing current procedures to ensure a better service for our guests, in a facility that is quite busy on a daily ongoing basis, given the nature of the dorm facility.

The Tours purchased through a hotel are almost always identical in price to the rates offered direct from the tour operator, unless the tour company was, at the time of your booking, offering a special or offered yourself a special that wasn’t made aware to the resort. Taking tour bookings is a helpful way to ensure our guests have access to excellent day activities not only within the resort but also within the greater area. The tour operators promote their services through the resort to ensure our guests have access to them and by agreement in principle, ensure the prices provided by the resort remain the same as their current offerings.

Yes we do offer Fiji Water, Fiji’s Internationally recognized bottled water, for $8.00 for a 1.5l bottle in our bar and restaurant. We pay more to have this premium product available to our guests to consume and enjoy in a beachside and lush garden setting.

Once again, we apologize for the resort not meeting your expectations. We market ourselves within the affordable & midrange hotel ratings and it is through market trends that we establish the price for our services. We have maintained our prices for the last two and a half years and have no immediate plans of increasing these, always trying to ensure we continue to remain within affordable reach.

Should you ever be in Fiji again, I hope that you will contact us, and we hope to be able to be given the opportunity to offer you a Fijian beachside resort experience that will meet your expectations.

Once again, Vinaka Vaka Levu.

My friend and I stayed here for a week in the mini dorm. I would recommend asking for the mini dorm versus the dormitory it is much smaller and you will have less roomates. The people at the resort were friendly. The resort is pretty secluded though, you can walk down the road a bit if you want other restaurant options but there was no nightlife. I would suggest renting a car if you want to find entertainment or bars.

My wife and I were in Fiji for our Honeymoon... And decided after being told about the food and value for money at the Uprising that it would be a good place to have our Honeymoon Dinner...

We were welcomed with a heart Bula at the front counter and after walking down the wooden path we were welcomed by the ladies at the restaurant and we asked for a quiet seat... They pointed to a 2 Seat Table and we went to sit down... The View was Out of this World... With the beach and sun setting behind us it was a gorgeous setting...

The Meals and Price for them were very very Reasonable... I had the Steak asked for Medium Well...

The Steak was "One of the Best Steaks I have had in a While" and my wife had a "Works" Burger and she loves it too... Everything was very moist and tasty...

All up I think we spent around FJ$70 For 2 mains and a couple Drinks... Very Good Service too...

We arrived at Uprising at about 8am, after a long transfer from Nandi airport. Breakfast was included with our accommodation, but not a lot on offer.
The staff at Uprising are very very friendly and welcoming, and made our stay very enjoyable. However the time between ordering a meal from the kitchen and receiving it was varying in length with an average of an hours wait. On the last night night our meal took nearly two hours, and my meal arrived after everyone else had eaten and was leaving the table! I know you're on Fiji time, but that was pushing it big time!
I was upgraded from a dorm room to a Bure (#2) to share with another lady travelling in our dive group. This ended up costing us nothing, so it was truly welcome! The Bure was comfortable and really lovely, and we looked forward to using the outdoor shower, although it took from Sunday to Wednesday to be fixed as previous to that there was cold water only. Thank goodness others from our group were in the next Bure!
Overall it was a great experience. I will definitely go back, in fact am in the progress of organising our next trip. I recommend the Seafood Platter. It's not on the menu but you need to ask for it, and takes 24 hours to source all the fresh seafood. Absolutely divine!
This is Fiji, it's a Fijian resort, so there are differences between this accomodation and something you'd come across in a major city. However, if there's something you want or need, just ASK, and do so politely. I noticed a lot of visitors speaking to the reception or bar staff like they were idiots and I feel this is rude and ignorant and completely uncalled for.

We have had several meals at The Uprising. Every meal seems to be better than the last. The atmosphere and service is impeccable. Prices are reasonable but a little high for Fiji. This is our special occasion place.

We stayed at the Pearl resort just along the beach but called in at the Uprising on our way back from a trip to Suva just to have a look and a drink from the bar. We were so impressed by the friendly staff, lovely garden setting and great views of Beqa island that we returned again on our last day to have lunch.
I had a lovely fish salad and my partner’s yellow fin tuna burger was amazing, the good-sized tuna steak was perfectly cooked. The staff were very welcoming and let us laze the afternoon away on loungers by the pool. Unfortunately it was noisy with a group of people yahooing but as were only there temporarily we put up with it. I must admit I was glad we weren’t staying there, but it’s just a case of luck as to who’s staying where at the same time you are !
