A brief but truly wonderful stay. The staff were amazing and so personable and the resort itself and location are magical. Our booking was arrnaged by a friend and everything went smoothly, the staff addressed us by name and made sure all of our activities and transfers were arranged and on time.

There are many tropical islands and beautiful beachfront resorts in the world – Nanuku is certainly one with lovely Fijian style and sense of place. What really sets Nanuku apart though is the people and the experience that they create for guests.

It starts with an authentic and special welcome ceremony in which staff dress as traditional Fijian warriors. Throughout our stay, we got to know pretty much the entire staff personally by name. They took absolutely great care of us. You hear about how warm and friendly people in Fiji are, which was what drew me there in spite of the longer flight from California. This is absolutely true and made my whole family fall in love with the people and culture at Nanuku. Upon our departure, the staff all came out to sing a special Fijian farewell song for us. We felt connected.

I have been fortunate to have stayed in many high-end properties around the world: Aman, Four Seasons, St. Regis, Rosewood, Ritz Carlton, Montage, Intercontinental, Park Hyatt, as well as other Auberge locations. The experience at Nanuku stands out because of the people and the experience.

I have also vacationed in Hawaii over 40 times. Fiji is what Hawaii must have been like 50 years ago (but with all the modern conveniences, like high-speed Wi-Fi). In most resorts in Hawaii, such as Aulani or Grand Wailea, guests often have to compete over pool chairs. Their kids clubs are large babysitting facilities where kids mostly play video games indoor. At Nanuku, each child is paired with a staff member who personally takes her/him to the pool or beach (at no extra charge – they don’t nickel and dime guests). For the same costs (or less) as a high-end resort in Hawaii, you get a much more special, personal, relaxing, and authentic experience. Nanuku is absolutely worth a few extra hours on the plane.

Most of the other high-end resorts in Fiji are on outer islands, while Nanuku is on the main island (Viti Levu) where the international airport is. Not only does this make travel more convenient, it positions guests to do lots of fun activities nearby (Nanuku is on the ‘adventure coast’ of Fiji) that the outer islands cannot offer: whitewater rafting on the upper Navua river with incredible waterfalls on both sides, ATV into the jungle with private waterfalls, ziplining, cave safari, etc. The location also allowed us to visit towns/villages to get a fuller experience of Fiji, including some shopping.

This vacation was truly memorable and stands out above many others in my life. I only wish that I had discovered Fiji/Nanuku sooner…we will be back!

The place really grew on us during our five day stay. We came into nanuku from Kokomo island resort and initially the impression was a bit disappointing. The ocean was no where near as nice as one of the outer island resorts like Kokomo and the fit and finish of the place is a cut below a six star place like Kokomo. Over time, however, we came to think Nanuku was the perfect blend for a vacation. Its a lot more of a local Fijian feel to the resort than Kokomo and we kind of liked that in the end. We had fun watching our Man Bale prepare the traditional Fijian feast cooked on hot stones, We enjoyed the Fijian dance and shows that the resort put on one evening. We went out for a half day to Nanuku island which is a wonderful trip and highly recommended. There you can snorkel and swim in waters as clean as can be.. We also took the waterfall hike, which included a boat ride up a river not far from the resort. That was another excursion we will never forget. Our man Bale took us on a river paddle through the mangrove swamps behind the resort which was a third memorable excursion. I would highly recommend nanuku if you are looking for something a little more culturally stimulating to add to your visit to Fiji. I kind of thought half the time on an outer island beach resort and half the time at Nanuku was perfect.

Nanuku Auberge Resort is easily one of the world’s best resorts - we have stay at Shangri’La properties in south east Asia and Australia and Leela Palace properties in India as well as others.

The resort takes personal service to another level. My kids were royally entertained by their itokani.

The best vacation of our lives and we will be back.
