My wife and I stayed at this Fijan gem for a week in January 2013 and it was absolutely gorgeous.
We are both avid travellers and have a weakness for well-organised and clean accommodation, if not, luxurious.
If you're looking for a time to truly unwind, enjoy a fun-and refreshing 80's classic version of a cocktail or an ice-cold Fiji Beer whilst reading a novel, well organised day trips and a casual atmosphere then this is your slice of heaven.
We experienced a change of management and the new frontman, Max. He and his family have been great hosts to us and accommodated our each and every need. And so does the rest of the staff who's names I cannot all recall… If you like diving and maritime life I can't think of any better spot. Since the (petit) island itself is located not too far off land near the main river that runs through Viti Levu (the "Mainland") there is great maritime activity e.g. beautiful fish and coral within little distance of Toberua Island.
It seems to be a great place for those with young children as well since you can literally walk around the island within 10 minutes. Besides daily optional activities including diving, pier-or boat fishing, reef-golf (great to master your speed and handling your chipper') There is also a pool-table, ping-pong table next to the bar and pool, which is excellent to chill out in during the occasional warm tropical rainstorms during the wet-season with a perfectly chilled Fiji Beer. Absolute bliss. Ah yes… And then there is the "spa". Well, it's a spa without the sauna, turkish bath etc. But the massage was fantastic. Whilst getting a massage it's easy dozing off listening to the constant breaking of the low waves when the tide comes in…
Dinner is served three times a day, starting off with the eminent and fresh breakfast consistent of local fruit, self-made delicious cereal and the usual Western coffee, eggs, bacon etc. After breakfast you will be offered the menu for the 3-course lunch, which was very good(and healthy) throughout our entire stay. Thumbs up! After lunch you will be offered the menu for dinner. They don't ask immediately after lunch but later through just tracking where you are and then handing you the menu. And if you happen to be in your well-outfitted, traditionally designed and clean Bule (cabin) they will gently knock on your door… Again, great food. Don't expect a michelin star restaurant but expect dishes that seem to have been prepared with alotta love. And what is better then being outside when enjoying your dinner and occasionally looking up and see a beautiful bright starlit sky.
Mind you. This isn't a Hilton, Meridien, Standard, W-Hotel or whatever but a small business that is family run. So expect that what you can expect from a loving hospitable family.
With best regards and happy travels,
Also try the local drink CAVA. It's all sorts of spectacular!
