We booked Tokoriki after some friends who had been there recommended it. Our experience overall was enjoyable but not as amazing as we'd imagined. The food was pretty good, the views fantastic, the snorkelling was fun - we enjoyed having our own private strip of the beach to swim in. While we were swimming we were swarmed by friendly fish even in shallow water which was fun. The room itself was gorgeous but the facilities felt a bit worn and 'old'.

But one of the main reasons our stay wasn't amazing was the awful smell that came across into our rooms and on the beach in the afternoon - particularly around sunset hour! We were so disappointed. The smell turned out to be a "natural" smell due to the removal of seaweed from the beach but it was a horrible stench. Unfortunate I suppose as it wouldn't happen all the time...but it definitely affected our stay and that of a few other couples we spoke to. The difficult part is that if it is happening there's nothing they can do to change it. The stench however doesn't reach the lobby/restaurant so you can just loiter there. Annoying to have to leave your room at sunset though!

However when we complained the staff -while initially dismissive - did do their best to offer us assistance. We appreciated that. The staff at other times appeared disinterested or with 'forced' enthusiasm. It has a bit of a 'has been' feel....

Oh and not to mention when we were there they were doing some sort of construction work - and there were tractors etc making noise and ruining the view. Not their 'fault' they have to do these things but it affected our experience. We were after a tranquil retreat on an island and it didn't feel that way. They only have 1 bar and restaurant so it's a small place. The cocktails were pretty poor, wine list is good but crazy expensive, beers are priced ok.

FYI - We also stayed at the new Intercontinental in Natandola - and highly recommend that. While not a couples-only retreat the facilities, staff, food - not to mention their huge infinity pool and awesome beach - are worth every penny!

Bula iluv2travel99,
It's been a few years since your review and we wanted to let you know that Tokoriki has recently been voted the #1 Hotel in Fiji and #1 Hotel in the South Pacific and #16 Hotel in the world and is now an adults only resort....we have grown to 36 bures and pool villas and in February this year added a state of the art kitchen for our talented chefs, along with a new restaurant and cocktail bar and Fiji's best heli pad over the ocean at the end of the jetty. Mother nature has been kind to us and our beach is looking great. Do let us know should you wish to return to experience the new Tokoriki so that we can arrange your return guest treats. Vinaka!

We came to Tokoriki Resort for 5 nights of our honeymoon expecting a luxurious island escape, however we were very disappointed. Firstly, the beach was rocky and covered in seaweed so we spent most of our time by the pool. On our transfer to the island we passed several island resorts with much more beautiful beaches and it’s hard to see why you would pay more for this resort. Secondly, the attitude of the staff was indifferent and lazy; we would order things that never arrived and service was very slow. The restaurant got our table booking wrong on our last two nights so we never got to sit at some romantic tables by the beach. Throughout our stay we constantly had to ask for things that had been forgotten and had to double check everything. Thirdly, for a luxury resort we found there was a lack of attention to detail, for example the towels were often old and frayed, the table tennis net was broken and the board games were old and missing pieces, the beds were too soft.

The positives of Tokoriki- the food in the restaurant is delicious, the bures are well maintained and cleaned daily. The staff are very friendly although incompetent. The pool is relaxing and the resort is a great place to unwind. Having said that I would think that this is a pretty standard expectation for most resorts and you can stay in nicer locations with better service for a lot less.
All in all, for the high price you pay, Tokoriki is an average resort experience with extremely frustrating service.

We were at Tokoriki resort for one week for our honeymoon at the end of March. We had a fabulous time here! I write this review comparing it to Vomo, where we stayed for a week after Tokoriki. Vomo was more expensive, and we didn't like it half as much as Tokoriki.
The positives of this resort:
-The staff were amazing! Everyone knows your name, we never had any difficulties getting anything we needed. The staff were friendly, the maid service was awesome, the dive staff were incredible. They all know how to sing beautifully and play instruments! They sing songs to you at every meal, which is so nice! They are amazing people. I would especially like to acknowledge Ramsey, who is so funny and welcoming, as well as Villy and Tae at the dive shop, and Moses and Freddy. We were so lucky to meet these staff members and will always consider them friends.
-The bures were fantastic! We really enjoyed the outdoor shower, and the large patio doors that opened up right onto the ocean! They were separated from each other so that you never even knew you had neighbors! The privacy was incredible! Our room was cleaned to perfection daily, the bed was very comfortable, the furnishings were nice.
-The food was really good! More importantly, I never got sick from it! There were set meal times, but if you can't get your butt to a meal within 3 hours, then you only have to wait for 2 hours till the next meal time. There are snacks you can buy in the gift shop, and Fijians would never make you go hungry. The menu for lunch and supper changes daily, and the drinks at the resort were awesome! The restaurant is in a fabulous location, and you can sit inside or out. The sunset from the restaurant is amazing!!!!
-The surroundings were beautiful, and there was plenty to do. We really enjoyed that there were very few bugs at Tokoriki. I don't know if they sprayed, or the little geckos did there job really well, but I appreciated not being covered in welts like I was after staying at Vomo. The beach was almost deserted because most people sat at the pool, which gave us even more privacy to enjoy ourselves. The snorkelling was only ok, but it was really cool to see sharks and stingrays right near the beach! We used the kayaks, hiked to the top of the hill, snorkelled, dived, did the crab race, took part in the kava ceremony and went to the church service. Everything we did there was lots of fun, the weather was great and the staff made the experience fantastic!!!

Now for the negatives...there always has to be a couple...
-There is a bit of seaweed. However, they clean it up and it is used in the gardens to fertilize the vegetation. Overall, it wasn't that big of a deal.
-Room service would have been nice. Only because we loved our bure so much, we would have enjoyed having one meal on our deck there.

Otherwise, we loved Tokoriki and would 100% return!!!!! Thanks for a fantastic stay!

I booked Tokoriki as a surprise for my wife as our romantic section of our round the world honeymoon.
To start with Fiji is absolutely beautiful. We spent 1 night on the mainland Radisson Resort which was awesome but I am so glad that we went to Tokoriki.
We were very sceptical about Tokoriki but once we got into the sunset pool villa it was worth the cost. The staff on the island are so friendly and they make the effort to get to know you by your first name, many thanks to Ramsey and Penty.

We stayed 6 nights in total in sunset pool villa 5 which is right at the end so we had lots of privacy. Indoors the villa is quite basic but decorated quite nicely. Outdoors is where you really do appreciate the villa, especially the plunge pool and the decking area which is of a good size. Sitting in the plunge pool with a nice cold Vodka looking out to sea and the sun beating down with my wife was absolute heaven, so relaxed, so chilled there were no worries........

The sun lounges help to perfect the tan and the outdoor shower is amazing aslong as you don’t mind lizards and geckos ogling you. The outdoor day bed is nice and comfortable but wouldn't advise you fall asleep on there as you will be bitten.

I eat a lot but the meal plan defeated me, you can get away with having 2 meals a day, late breakfast and dinner or lunch and dinner, so if you don’t want to eat to much then don’t get the meal plan. My wife got addicted to the 'Twisted Pineapple' cocktails, which accounted for 50% of our final bill, the other 50% went on her spa treatments which I have been told were very good and the spa package is worth the price, my spa was a beer in the plunge pool with music playing in the background.

I recommend having dinner down by the beachfront, it’s really romantic so much so we ate there twice and strolled on the beach between courses.
At dinner time the staff always do their daily rituals and Freddie serenades you over dinner, he and the group are amazing.
If you are there for the evening of the crab race then do take part it’s thoroughly entertaining and bid for a crab as it makes it even more interesting.

There are many activities to try out such as the walk to the top of the island, don’t forget the camera, a bottle of water and the walking sticks from reception. We went snorkelling although it wasn't like the barrier reef, only go if you are a comfortable swimmer. We did kayaking around the island which is an achievement when you arrive back, I suggest doing it the glass bottomed kayaks as the views below are amazing. We played volleyball, football and tennis to burn the breakfast off and scramble to keep our brains going.
I recommend the tour to island of Monoriki which is where they filmed Castaway which was interesting, the beach there is absolutely amazing it is the best sandy beach I have ever walked on.

There are only a few negatives which can never spoil the holiday: SPV 5 has the tail of the haunted Gecko, everyday there would be gecko droppings in the same place around the same time and whilst you are sleeping you will here them but they wont harm you.
One night there was a scratching noise in the roof and when we took a look the next day there was a wasps nest....they were nasty, the staff promptly got rid of it and gave us bottle of wine for the inconvience.
Just before sunset you can do some wildlife watching, huge fruit bats come flying out over the island.

Overall this island really is paradise, I recommend the SPV if you have the money, stay for 5 says only and stay on Denaru island in one of the resorts for the rest of the duration.
I caught the boat there as I got to see the other resorts and we had a few beers/ wine on the way there and back, so spend the extra bob on the captains lounge.

It really is a place you can make people envious of.
Great memories.

Thank you so much for your review!!! It's a perfect account of the kind of experience we like to share and know our Guests have left with!!! Especially what you wrote about our meal plan - with the meals being so generous, we recommend people purchasing as they go!!! The Geckos are part of the natural environment and all part of the Fijian experience........hopefully you got in some time to watch them as they are quite interesting! Vinaka Vakalevu from the Tokoriki Team. PS.....perhaps we might welcome you back for an anniversary one day???

Stayed here 5 nights and for the price i paid to stay in the Sunset Pool Villa- this place fell very much short of my expectations. The location is really nice overlooking the ocean and if you are into the ocean views and water - then i suppose it is a good place to stay at. However there were a few basic things which i felt was a real let down. The meals were below par and certainly not 4-5 star - but closer to 3 star. we got sick of going to the same 1 restaurant 3 times a day and being seved by the same people and eating the same type of food for the 5 days we were there. Rooms were not cleaned regularly unless asked and every night the rooms would have animal droppings (gecko) all over the floor - disgusting! No phones in the room to even contact reception considering we had to walk almost 10 mins to get to reception for any kind of request. Once u got to reception, the level of service was very arrogant and blunt at times. Although the rest of the hotel staff - especially at the restaurant were brilliant! There was not even a clock in the hotel room however there was a very set time limit for meals (2.5 hr window) so if u missed this window by chance - u would be stuffed! Plus - no in room dining OPTION?!At times - it felt like a dorm environment with rules and for that much money - i dont want to feel like that!
The lighting in the room was also very dim. Overall - my expectations were not met and i would not return.
