Castaway Island Fiji
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 5, 2013

We were lucky enough to spend a couple of nights at Castaway recently after a hectic week in Fiji . There was nothing we could fault during our stay. The food was superb and we highly recommend the meal plan as people who normally steer clear of such plans as the quality is usually pretty average. Not at Castaway. The awesome Chef Lance Seeto has created menus to die for, and honestly you wont be sorry. You will be treated to superb food, that has been prepared with much thoughts and passion.

We stayed in Bure 33, and were delighted. It is nice and close to both pools and the main restaurant, so it was never a hassle to duck back to our Bure if we forgot things for our bub. The rooms are thoughtfully decorated and we loved the fact that we knew from the interior design of our bure that we were on holiday in Fiji. The ceiling of the bure is lined with hand painted traditional masi, and the rooms decorated to both capture the sea and traditional features of Fiji.
The bure was extremely quiet at night other than the sound of the waves crashing on the beach close by, which was just so relaxing for us to drift off to sleep listening to. We also noted that we were never ever woken by drunken tourists, it seems Castaway attracts a different crowd, lots of young families and decent people looking for a wonderful holiday, rather than the backpacker crowd or party people. The rooms were beautifully clean, and I had no hesitation in letting our bub crawl all over the floor. Housekeeping staff go about their work each day with big smiles on their faces, and are very proud of the rooms they prepare for the Castaway guests.

The kids pool was such a lovely place to spend a day. The restaurant there was amazing, awesome chicken burgers, and the service equally impressive. It was nice to see parents interacting with their children, supervising them, and not sitting around getting drunk and letting the kids entertain themselves. The atmosphere was just great, and we spent the entire day there with our 8 month old and our 3 yr old nephew who was with us.

We were just so impressed by the staff, each and every one of them. It is clear they love what they do, and they aim to please. Nothing was ever a problem, and we were just looked after so well. The staff are so professional, and do their jobs so well. It is clear that they are treated well by the management and owner, as it shows in the passion they deliver in their service to guests.

Band boys played all day and all night. Just make the holiday meal very relaxed.

My husband went on a dive, and commented at how professional the staff were, and helpful to everyone. They place priority on safety, and as a nervous wife, it was reassuring to know that my husband would be well looked after. The staffs are well versed on the surroundings and jobs.

We loved Castaway, and can't wait to go back. Don't bother spending your money anywhere else. If you want the holiday of a lifetime, choose Castaway. My husband is Fijian and we have stayed in alot of resorts during our visits from Australia. Nothing compares. Castaway scores 10/10 on every level, and in every area.

Well done Castaway crew, you are all awesome.

This was our first trip to fiji, our holiday on castaway with 3 children(15,12 &5) would have to be one of the best ever, fabulous accomodation in traditional bures, plenty to keep the kids occupied from kids club to hanging around the pool for the older ones. Snorkelling is like swimming in an aquarium with bright colourful fish and coral. lots of activities to do if you want to be active, kayaking, or take the walk to the top of the island, you will be rewarded with an amazing view, or relax under the tropical sun.
The food was absolutely superb from all restaurants( chef Seeto has done a wonderful job of the menu's) and topped off with some of the best sunsets you will ever see. The staff are one of their greatest assets and make you feel like a part of their family, not just another tourist, and make a point of remembering your names. The send off you get when leaving brings a touch of sadness of having to leave this wonderful place. Cannot wait to return to an absolute paradise island that feels like home.

Room Tip: Stayed in an island bure, on south side. Very peaceful. All bures have air-con and very comfortable.

My Family and I (2 adults and 11 year old girl & 8 year old boy) have just returned from 10 days of rest, relaxation and eating. This is our second visit and we found that the predominant age group of the kids was 9 or under which disappointed our daughter compared to last time (3 years ago) when she made lots of friend.
We all still had a great time and already miss it and cannot recommend it highly enough for an Island Holiday where you do not seem to get out of the water or your bathers.

Room Tip: We had an Ocean View Bure on the North Side which is a perfect position as it is set back from the b...

Well what I can say about this wonderful place!!
My family were lucky to be the first boat to land on the Island after the cyclone repairs, and WOW what a reception all of the staff were singing the greeting song and it felt really special. It's been 4 years since our first visit to the island and now with 2 kids, it was spectacular.
Firstly all the improvements to the island, the bathrooms in the rooms have been refurbished, the new kids pool and renovation to the now adults pool is heavenly. I lost my kids to the kids club, who couldn’t get enough of it; all the teachers are just wonderful and caring. They do som any fun activities that I wish I coul dhave gone with them.
I lost my husband to the wonderful dive team with him doing 2 dives a day, he went to some amazing sites. So with no husband and no kids, what’s a woman to do but go and get a massage!! (Which is as good as I remembered)

Where the greatest improvement of all was that of the brilliant chef Lance Seeto whose food makes my mouth water thinking about it. The new restaurant 1808 which is obviously his baby, has amazing combination of flavours, all cooked outside on a workstation on the sand. With my hospitality background, I could really appreciate all the hard work that was put in to achieve 1808, all the chefs worked there butts off. Good Job!

The island greatest assets is its staff, it was so wonderful to see so many same faces in the island, truly almost like seeing your family. The staff couldn’t do enough for you and I’m sure after no guests for 3 months it was a nice change to get back in the swing of things.

If you have kids and don’t know where to go, do yourself a favour and go to castaway island, you won’t be sorry.

Wow what a place. We didn't want to leave after spending 5 nights there in an Island bure in early April. It was a special time to arrive as we were there for the cyclone reopening ceremonies. Castaway is a must visit for at least a week and is top shelf all round. The food is excellent, with fresh organic food in abundance. The staff are great and remember the kids names first go. The layout makes it seem that although full, it feels that you always have space. Snorkeling out on their reef is awesome and there are heaps of water based activities led by the staff. Kids club is great and the kids all seemed to get on really well. Laundry service is great for FJ$20 for 15 items. Hair braiding is done by the front office girls for FJ$1 a braid and takes about 2hrs a head. We met some great guests from all over Australia there who we had dinner with. We'll be re-booking for another stint and we'll chopper in next time so we don't need to stay on mainland.
