What a lovely welcome back from the staff here at Matamanoa Island Resort!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jun 5, 2019via mobile
Wow we received such a lovely welcome back from all of the staff we met last August! A lovely Bula Welcome Back spelled out on the bed with delicate fern leaves! The Fijian people are such warm and friendly people. What more can you ask for Escaping the Winter in New Zealand to warm tropical weather here at Matamanoa!!!

I have spent a couple of nights in this beautiful Paradise.
My beachfront bure was simply perfect!

I have been treated like a princess for the entire stay.

I was like enough to have an amazing massage at the Senikai Spa which is located right in front of the Ocean. You can feel the breeze and hear the sound of the ocean while you enjoy a relaxing massage... no words can describe!

I have also done a "Discover Scuba Diving" organized by Deep Blue Diving and Watersport which allowed me to discover the spectacular reef with heaps of fishes, a Manta and reef sharks.

    Highly recommended.

I really want to give this place five starts but they need to improve on the quality of the food. It’s not bad but not good either, just mediocre and doesn’t match the greatness of this place. We stayed in beach front bure. Stylish and spacious with plunge pool. You can have near complete privacy but some staff occasionally pass in front of you so that wasn’t nice. A must do is a sunset walk on the wooden bridge. We also loved the spa walk, both the settings and the walk are spectacular. The reef in front of the hotel is absolutely awesome. We saw abundance of fish, the corals are also beautiful but the fish was the highlight. We took a reef safari to other islands and regretted spending FJD 170 for two of us as our hotel reef was a much better experience. Bottom line - we would come back for the reef and accommodation but will have to accept the food is not as we anticipated.

My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights for our honeymoon and it was bliss! Very relaxed vibe, warm and inviting staff, delicious food and heaps of it (we had the meal plan and were getting so full after every meal that we had to start sharing some courses!), a beautiful spa in the treetops (best massage ever) and awesome snorkelling! Our beachfront bure was in good condition, clean, spacious and air-conditioned and the private plunge pool and day bed outside were luxury! One of our favourite things was the live acoustic music every evening during cocktail hour and the lovely serenade you get on your last night.

We did the trip to Tavua village and to Cloud 9 - would recommend both as worth it.

We were so sad to leave and hope that we can come back one day!

This place provided everything I had hoped for on my first South Pacific trip. Getting to the island via South Seas was easier than expected; I suggest that you ask Matamanoa to book that for you. You only need visit the South Seas office located the airport. Charter bus and tickets await. The island is perfect, lush and tropical, surrounded by beautiful clear waters and easy snorkeling. The famed Fijian hospitality and warmth are the cherry on this delicious sundae.

We had a beachfront bure with a king and a single bed. The single was perfectly comfortable. We made use of a spa deal that allowed us to have three massages for the price of one back in the U.S.! The spa is entirely open air. The quality of the massages matches any resort spa. Notably, this resort seems to fit into the natural environment. Supplies are shipped in. Yeah, you'll get a minimum number of towels (you can always request more--but really, try to not use so many resources). Food is shipped in, too. Five star gourmet? No, but totally fine. We went for the full meal plan and glad that we did. The excursions are worthwhile. We also participated in the kava ceremony, which was a lot of fun. We would have participated in some of the other activities but just seemed to miss stuff because we were off snorkeling or relaxing. We spent the last 2 nights at a more posh resort near Suva, also lovely, but we both agreed that we preferred Matamanoa. Not posh, but certainly nearly perfect. I loved it.
