“New Years @ Magical Mana”
Reviewed January 7, 2014

We returned to Mana Island for our 4th visit over the New Years period. We were not disappointed, it is as beautiful as ever. New Year's Eve was an experience in itself, party on the North Beach deck complete with Polynesian Show, Dancing and at midnight there were balloons and champagne everywhere (all over everyone!!!!).

Other highlights of our holiday were, parasailing off the sandbar, lots of snorkelling off both beaches (my hubby and one of my daughters even got to see a reef shark at the North Beach drop off), banana boat rides, swimming at South Beach, poolside bingo @ Happy Hour, crab racing and great evening shows. As always it was the staff that really made our holiday, a special thanks to the Information staff, Uddy, Ana and all the restaurant staff, Kids Club - Cinderella, Va, Sandra, Big Bear, Big Mumma, & Sim.

The inifinity pool is now signposted Adults only, which really makes a difference. The main negative this visit was the lack of shade and seating around the Mana pool, this caused people to reserve lounge chairs early in the morning. We ended up just going to South Beach after a few days. As we understand big renovations are in the pipeline for the next year or so including a new pool, two storey restaurant, relocation of reception/information down near the jetty etc. It will be good to see these changes and we are hoping that it wont change the character of the resort too much.

We once again stayed in and Island Bure (2 adults and 3 kids) and will look at a bigger room next time as our kids are getting older. We didnt purchase a meal plan which gave us flexibility as to where we ate, going between buffets, room service, South Beach and backpacker, the food was ok but that's not really what you go to Mana for anyway.

Thanks to all for a wonderful trip to Mana and we will be back soon

We have visited Mana island twice and both times we had a awesome time. Fantastic from start to finish besides the beautiful breath taking scenery and surrounds ,the service was impeccable and the staff were completely amazing. Fijians are so friendly the second time round we were welcomed home like family. LOVE LOVE LOVE Mana will return again and again.
Make sure if you need hair braiding you see Emily she is located at the back packers and she not only is much cheaper than resort she does an amazing job. Very good with children as she is patient and friendly ,hair braiding is very island appropriate as in and out of water makes for no fuss and keeps you cool in the climate .Amazing kids club and activities ,very relaxing.I highly recommend Mana Island.

Room Tip: depends on what you are accommodating for we stayed in island bure which is perfect however you may...

This is my second time back to Mana and it was even better the second time around I love this little paradise! My boyfriend and I have just returned after a beautiful 5 days during the new year break. We caught a helicopter transfer from Island Hoppers from the airport and were at Mana in literally 10 mins the scenery is absolutely breathtaking! You couldn't get whiter sand or clearer water anywhere else. We are both very active people and Mana is known for their water sports so it was perfect for us. I went for sand runs in the early mornings (only if I didn't have too many cocktails the night before!) We took advantage of the complimentary snorkel hire (best snorkelling in Fiji) and kayaking and also the jetskiiing (which was at your own expense). Fiji is the first to bring in the new year so we went to sunset beach to see the first of the last sunsets of 2013 and lucky enough to go on the sunrise boat tour to the sandbank and witness the very first sunrise of 2014 (the 5am wake up call was painful but so so worth it!) The staff at the resort were all so very friendly and entertaining especially the bingo guy who plays at happy hour beside the pool bar- he was hilarious! We requested some fresh coconut water, we assumed they may have some sitting around, but to our surprise he literally climbed up one of the trees to cut some down for us, you can't get any fresher than that!
I've stayed at the Shang-ri-la before but I much prefer the islands, you really get to see the real Fiji and get emmersed in their culture and the service is so genuine. Will definitely come back again! Highly recommend this place to anyone!

Mana Island is part of the Mamanuca island group of Fiji, it takes about 90min ferry ride from Port Denarau stopping at other various islands along the way. We were greeted with a warm welcome and general orientation of what and where things were on the island. We stayed in a garden bure ( no 144 ) , aprox 60 meters from south beach and double that to the north beach . The bure was clean and tidy had all you needed ( no TV or radio ) , great open air shower , mini fridge , etc. The south beach is great for swimming and the north beach has the best snorkelling , low tide can be a problem . The staff are really helpful and friendly ( Bula Bula ) , the food can vary depending on where you choose to eat , I suggest you try all the resort and back packers for a good variety . Don't forget to walk up to the Picnic point look out for the stunning 360 degree views ( just spectacular ). You can also play tennis, ping pong , swim in both adult and family pools , watch the turtles in their enclosure . Overall ,Mana island was great .
Vinaka to all the staff.

This was our second trip to Mana and I am a bit sad about the review I am about to write. We last visited Mana last March and we were pretty happy back then. So we decided to go again and spend New Years there. Bad decision. The bad:

Food!!! Wow the buffet has become so much worse and the standards are so low since last time we were there. I actually had tummy ache all week :( South Beach Restaurant has better quality food but needs more options on the menu

Rooms: We stayed in Ocean View Room and first night we got there our sheets were dirty and the bathroom was disguasting. My husband went to reception and asked if we could change rooms and were willing to pay but they said nothing was available which I am not sure was true as the resort was not that busy. But the views are awesome! And the beach is right in front of your nose.

Staff: This one I was really disappointed about. The reception staff were rude and not helpful and Information desk kept telling us the wrong information. The dining staff were friendlier but still not like the experience we had last time. I really don't know if something has happened but I just did not get that warm feeling .

Good:

Beaches: Wow ! Awesome. That's all I have to say
Spa: Very good! Lovely ladies and awesome treatments for reasonable price.

We went to day trip to Castaway and OMG! What a difference! I am sorry Mana but we will not be returning again. A real pity as we came back expecting the same experience if not better then last but you just didn't deliver.

Overall we had a brilliant time on Mana Island. We travelled with our two children, 5&7 and one set of our parents. We stayed in adjoining garden bures which, whilst quite simple were perfect for what we needed. Highlight of the room was the stone outdoor showers in them!
We had brilliant weather the whole time and snorkelled everyday that we were there off the North Beach, it was amazing and that is coming from two divers! The wild life on top of the fish included octopus, eagle ray, white tipped reef sharks and sea snakes and on the land there was a local bat colony. It was really great that if the South beach was windy, the North was calm and vice versa, also our garden bure in the middle of the island appeared to be sheltered from any wind.
Our kids had fun in the kids club for a few days, including a session of turtle feeding. It had a great play ground.
We would highly recommend that you take FJD with you and eat a few meals at the dive back packers next door, great food and very reasonably priced.
We celebrated both Christmas and birthdays there, Christmas Day began with carols from the local village and our daughter's cake came with a serenade from the band!
As all locations there are some things to watch for...
All prices on Mana unlike the mainland are displayed exclusive of VAT, this was not clear for us so 15% at the end was quite a surprise. South beach restaurant was disappointing (apart from the cocktails, which were much stronger than the other bars!) stick to the set buffet on the meal plan, but I'd keep the lunch free for the back packers option. The flies however were quote challenging at meal times, but we were there at a hot time of the year.
The family pool was quote small and murky, but we spend most of our time at the beaches anyway, which were truely stunning. also the adult only pool was nice.
Once again a great place for a family holiday, we'd definitely go back there in a heartbeat.

Mana Island has the best snorkelling I have ever experienced. The staff were amazingly friendly, entertaining and boy could they sing. The room was pretty average but had all the essentials and to be honest I wasn't there to watch TV. I can't recommend Mana Island highly enough for the full Fijian experience.
