“Great Snorkeling, Great Beach, Great Accomodation”
Reviewed April 8, 2014

Just got back from 7 nights there - there were 8 friends staying on the island for a 60th birthday bash. We shared a 2 bedroom garden bure - newly refurbished - great views of the beach as we were directly behind the beachfront bures. Others in our group shared a beachfront bure - not refurbished but made up for it by location. The snorkelling was good - straight off the beach, we also did a snorkelling trip out to the sandbar which you now have to pay for FJD15- with an abundant amount of small fish. Late March appears to be very quiet time for the resort - more popular during school holidays - which suited us oldies - we like things a bit on the quiet laid back style. Breakfast buffet was great. We didn't do the lunch meal deal - so ate lunch at the snackbar - very limited menu. Evening meal: table service/staff were great, but meals were nothing really special - FJD45 3 course buffet or 3 course a la carte- which is about $26 AUD - which is basic food at your local football club buffet style. I really didn't want to leave - I could have stayed much longer. All staff were happy and friendly.

Room Tip: The 2 bedroom bure is great for people sharing - separate main bedroom, separate second bedroom with...

Second family vacation and what a great trip. The ride over the boat was a bit rough but once off the boat our family holiday began. We had a great size bungalow a short walk to the beach as we travelled with our two young children. The bungalow was large , clean and great for us. After a rowdy bunch moved in next to us we were moved to a wonderful beachfront bungalow which was next to the pier so that the children could feed the fish every day. The front staff where incredible as where the babysitters. We had Nana Serrano times from the medical clinic and she was fantastic. The snorkeling was wonderful. This is a great resort for families and we loved our stay. The only thing you need to know is to take cash as babysitters etc need to be paid in cash . Not ATM on the island but they offer day trips back to the main land .

My daughter and friends had been studing abroad in Australia and decided to stop over in Fiji on the way home for some sun and relaxation! Plantaion Island Resort was the perfect place for them! I was so worried after I read some of the reviews, but after talking to the girls they said it was perfect! A 5 star location, very friendly staff, and 3 star accommodations! They loved the fact that kayaks and snorkeling is free! They spent 5 days of laying in hammocks reading, snorkeling right off the beach and kayaking! They said the staff was so friendly and welcoming! This resort is very family friendly which made the girls feel very safe! So if you are looking for a 5 star location on a 3 star budget this is the right place for you!

My family of 5 have just returned from a lovely 8 nights on plantation island. From the moment we got off the sea cat we were made feel very welcome, the singing and shell necklace are a nice treat. We stayed in a beach bure 15 steps from the water, just beautiful. The beach and snorkelling are fabulous we snorkelled every day. Our bure was 2 bedroom, clean and roomy.
The staff are great cleaned our bure everyday, the black coral restaurant had plenty of choices for us all. We played golf whilst there, that was fun, but make sure you have a golf cart (bit warm walking around 9 holes). Our family tried the sports fishing all caught something, l had a parasail which was amazing, as was the massage. Girls loved the hair braiding and the free water playground they have. They are constantly upgrading this island its a rippa. We will definitely be coming back. This is a 3 star resort great family spot, enjoy your holiday we all work hard to have them.

Room Tip: Beach Bure is the best

When staying in a nearby resort, we were excited to be able to visit Plantation Island for a day trip. This resort is in a spectacular part of the mamanucas, with the whitest of white sand, the most stunning beaches and incredible views of the bluest water.

But.... it is in need of TLC and from what we saw is set up more for 'schoolies' than 'families'. On arrival it was evident that the resort had not been maintained well. Facilities are old, mission brown is the colour scheme, bure roofs with thatching blown off and not replaced, huge splinters in the dry old decking and cracked tiles in the old, old pools.

If some money was spent on facility upgrades, this location could be the best. But sadly it is not somewhere I'd want to spend one night, let alone a week.

A visit to the shop and we were briskly told that it was 'charge to room only'. Cash was not accepted. Huh???

Clearly, day visitors not welcome.

My husband and I won our honeymoon to Plantation Island Resort. I was quite worried after reading all the negative reviews on this site. Quite frankly the people that have spoken negativley on this site about Plantation obviously expected to be waited on hand and foot and wanted food fit for a queen...
Our experience:
Food - we only had one avergae experience at Black Coral for lunch. All the other nights we went there for dinner the food was delicious. We had no complaints. Definitley would recommend Dicks at Muscott Cove for lunch also. We also dined at Lomani and that was lovely too.
Location - gorgeous views and lovely swimming pools
Staff - so very friendly and helpful.
Our room was cleaned every day by the maids and was always left nice and refreshed.

My overall comment on Plantation would be to go and experience it for yourself and don't beleive everything you read. You are going to a 3 star resort so don't expect it to be 5 star..

We loved our stay at Plantation and would love to come back one day.

Room Tip: We had a newly renovated Garden Terrace room. Was lovely and peaceful. A short walk to the restauran...
