Plantation Island Resort

We really enjoyed the resort and the activities. The staff are friendly. Don't expect activities to start on time "Fiji time". Restaurant food was expensive and was not to our expectation. Since we were a family of 5, we shopped at the local supermarket and left eating at the restaurant to minimum. We had the best time at this resort.

We arrived after lunch with 3 children and a Grandparent. We had 2 garden Terrace rooms, which while old, were very well cleaned and made.

We stayed for 8 nights and were well and truely into Fiji time. We didn't do everything we wanted to do, the people were amazing, I used to enjoy having snack time with the children while the lovely women cleaned our rooms and were singing. They were so friendly and considerate, even tucking my daughter's teddy bears into the beds as they made them.

The Kids loved Kids Club and we couldn't get them out of there. We enjoyed the food, so much of it. I don't have a problem going to the bar to order my own drink if it saves time and their effort. It is the perfect place to forget about worrying about the perfect holiday and being waited on and just relax.

My husband surfed everyday. Take a couple of boards (or more) he was lucky and only got dinged but a few got broken in two of Cloudbreak. If you're a surfer this is the place. He had a couple of cancelled tours due to weather, but if you are polite and make yourself known to the people there, they are more willing to assist. Old fashioned respect.

Make sure you take the tour to the shell village and school. Just amazing what they are doing there. If you're able to take school supplies they will very much appreciate it.

We loved it so much (July 2013) that we're in the process of organising coming back in June 2014 for even longer. We liked the fact that it isn't fancy, makes me worry less about the kids breaking something, running around and relaxing as you would in a more fancy resort.

My family (my husband and I, 3 teenage children plus a teenage friend) took a day trip to Plantation Island - we were staying at the Hilton on Denarau Island. The boat trip was great, as it was a beautiful day, and Plantation Island itself was gorgeous - postcard material. However, the resort was quite run down, the staff were no-where near as friendly as they were at the Hilton, the service for drinks was incredibly slow and the buffet lunch was average. Luckily, we just had 5 hours there, because it was enough. We did a lot of swimming and snorkelling and took some beautiful photos (as the scenery really is magnificent), but were happy to head back to the Hilton! Actually, on the way back on the boat we met a few people who had been staying at Musket Cove Resort (right next door) and they said it was a much better option than Plantation.

Room Tip: We didn't actually stay there, so I can't comment.

Looking for the ultimate in romantic locations? This is it! Perfect water and beaches, happy and smiling staff, great food. Suggest leaving the kids at home though - this really is a couples destination.

Room Tip: They are all good...individual little Bure's tucked away in the bush.

Where to start…

We stayed at Plantation Island from the 23rd of December 2013 to the 3rd of January 2014 and I would like to sum it up by saying it was one of the worst holidays I have ever been on. After reading the reviews below, we figured the “resort” was family orientated. We are a couple in their late twenties and thought we would risk all the bad reviews and stay at Plantation Island anyway. First of all, the place is very run down. Many of the staff act as if they don’t want to be there. They say Bula to you as you walk by but for most of them, you can tell this is something they are just told to do. When being served at the bar or restaurant, sometimes they wouldnt even smile or acknowledge you (same goes for Anandas restaurant). For Christmas, the hotel was having a gala dinner which was 5 courses. We waited for 2 and a half hours for our soup and even had to go to the bar to get our own drinks because no-one would serve us. We were not the only table that this had happened to. I can understand that they were busy, but the waiters would purposely ignore tables, and then they forgot our order (twice) and then put a basket of lollies and shortbread biscuit on our table to compensate for the wait (stale). The food was that bad, that we ended up leaving without even getting our mains. Upon arrival we decided that we would not partake in the half or full board options, and we would just try it out (Lucky we did!). My partner ended up getting food poisoning from the buffet and then we decided never to eat there again. Whilst walking around the resort and meeting other families and couples during our stay, we found out that they had also become sick with food poisoning but unfortunately for them had paid for the full board and couldn't get out of it. For the remainder of our trip, we walked across to the resort next door, Musket Cove and that was sensational! The food and service was to die for. The staff were friendly and they actually cared about your time. By the end of our holiday they knew us by our first names and would laugh when we refused to eat at plantation. Plantation island was one disappointment after the other. We booked a tour through them which was an island hopper of 4 different islands. Once on the boat, they took us snorkelling, then decided to tell us that the tour would be cut short 2 hours and we were only going to one island, but the price of the tour would remain the same. Very disappointing! The night before we left we tried to settle our bill because we had a 8:45am boat ride and didnt want to be late, they said to come back the next morning. We were a bit hesitant because we knew there was going to be issues, and there was. We refused to pay for the Christmas dinner and also they still had not taken off the “my-time” bonuses from our total bill. They then went back and forwards with the restaurant staff trying to figure out whether we did eat or not without them even seeming to care about the boat we had to board in ten minutes. What can I say, it was my fault for not taken note of the reviews below, but at least by leaving this comment I can help other people realize that it really is not worth staying here. Overall rating of this resort is 1/10....not even.

Room Tip: Rooms on the Lomani side if you really were going to stay here

Stayed here a few years ago over New years and had a great time. We were a group of 10 and all the rooms were comfy and spacious. The island itself is beautiful with plenty of activities to keep you busy, and plenty of hammocks to chill out in. Staff were all pretty friendly as well, sometimes a bit slow with drink orders but everything is on Fiji time so all good. Recommend the 5 island tour if they still offer it, was one of the best days we had. Not the best place to go if you want to party, more suited to couples/family but if you have a crew it works well.

we have just returned from plantation December 20 after only five days there, we first had five days on the coral cost at a resort, but if I had my time again, I would go straight to plantation as it is everything I thought a Fiji holiday would be. I was a little sceptical after reading reviews about plantation, but my fears were quickly forgotten when we arrived and the wonderful staff were so helpful with everything and we were upgraded from hotel rooms to garden bures because schoolies had just finished and many rooms were damaged and the staff were working so hard to get everything fixed before Xmas. we travelled with nine others, all my family, and the staff remembered my brother and his family from two years ago when they were there.
housekeeping were always singing and so helpful, drinks were cheap, mock tails only $6.00 compared to over $15 on the coral coast. canoes were free, so was snorkeling gear,
if you are looking for excitement and constant entertainment, then maybe plantation isn't for you, but if you go to Fiji for the complete relaxation and the beauty of the island, then you won't be disappointed. the water was amazing, so clear and warm, just beautiful. nightly entertainment and music,
we had a great time on plantation and have no hesitation in saying it was a great Fiji holiday.
