Pleasantly surprised after reading some not so good reviews. Travelled as a family of 4 with 2 boys 5 and 3. Fabulous location with the beach and easy snorkelling the main highlights for us. The boys enjoyed the kids club and the babysitting service is inexpensive and very good. Yes the resort is undergoing some renovations at the moment which means construction noise at various places throughout the day but you could avoid it easily enough. Food was much better than expected so I'd say the new chef is doing well and they were very helpful with my need for a gluten free diet (pancakes made just for me were yummy). All in all we had a wonderful holiday and are considering going back next year - perhaps booking a beachfront bure next time.

Room Tip: Will look to book a beachfront bure in the 200's next time

We just returned from a week at Plantation Island during the July School Holidays and had an amazing time. Our children aged 6 and twin 3 year old's loved every minute. I think if you go with the expectation that this is not a five star resort then you will be more than pleased.

We stayed in a garden bure which had 100% beachfront access and views, the room was spacious and very comfortable, we had 2 ceiling fans and an air conditioner and it easily catered to our family of 5, which we found tricky when looking at other resorts in Fiji. A lot of resorts would require you to book 2 interconnecting rooms for a family of 5 which made the cost so much more expensive. I loved the bures, these were so much better than hotel style accommodation, we had our own little porch which we could sit and relax on of a night, or a hammock out the front for when the twins had a day time sleep..

Our rooms were on the muscat cove side of the island and a short walk to all three pools, all three restaurants, we had the beach on our doorstep and could not have asked for anything more.. We spent our days swimming in the pools and the ocean, the kids loved the large pool with the island and especially loved the kids pool with the waterslides. My 3 year old's could not get enough of the littlies waterslide.. The ocean was amazing, so clear with fish swimming around your feet in only ankle deep water, the snorkeling was amazing, you could basically snorkel straight off the beach and find colorful fish, coral and gigantic starfish. Our 6 year old had snorkeling down pat, by the end of the week. The free Kayaks were great, we went out one day and stopped on a sandbank and snorkeled all around which was out of this world!

We visited Shell Village, which was really interesting, went to the local school and met some of the teachers and principle and my daughter looked around the preps classroom at what they were learning. We bought some souvenirs from the Fijian ladies that had a market on the beach and had a Carva ceremony.

My husband went out on a sandbank snorkeling trip which he loved, and the fijian dance show that the resort put on one night was great. There was also a golf course, mini golf and tennis courts on the island.

The kids club was fantastic, so many activities to choose from each day, anything from fish feeding, crab hunting, sandcastle building, shell collecting, t-shirt painting, jumping castle free play etc, and the night time activities were great. My daughter hung out for 7pm when she could run down the beach for the torch lighting and go off to the lounge for activities, followed by a movie. They also had activities for older kids which wasn't really advertised, but some people we met had teenage boys who went along to things like beach volleyball, beach rugby, kayaking and on our last day the man that ran this climbed a coconut tree and they cut open some coconuts and everyone tried them. He helped my kids to pretend to climb the tree and they were just amazed and so excited..

There are a lot of negative comments about the food, now I don't know what masterchef gourmet meals other parents whip up through the week for their families, but the range of food offered across the three restaurants, especially in the main restaurant were fine. When we were there we had a stir fry night, BBQ night, traditional Fijian Roast night, pasta night.. To be honest, it was more important to me that we could quickly and easily have the kids fed and full and happy, than me eating some fancy fine dining meal!! The views from the main restaurant were amazing, I didn't have to stress about them making noise or being naughty etc...

Lastly, the fijians that work on this island were just so friendly, and made us feel so welcomed.. We loved our holiday and loved plantation island and it was the perfect family holiday!!

Room Tip: Rooms on the muscat cove side of the island are probably closer to most amenities like restaurants, beach, pools etc. The bure we had was amazing and close enough without being too close or noisy.. If you are after something newer, the 2 BR's are renovated or brand new, but these are not an option is you want beachfront accommodation.

We travelled with our family including Grandchildren. The food was certainly not gourmet but was passable. The actvities for adults and children were great and were made even more so by the friendly and helpful staff. The room we had was excellent and very clean. Our grandchildren had a wonderful time and the kids club provided many enjoyable activities. The location was great, a taste of tropical paradise. Our only complaint was the attitude of the two girls who worked in the boutique. They were unfriendly, bordering on rude, disinterested and unhelpful. The sea was warm, safe and full of beautiful tropical fish.

We have just returned from a trip to Fiji where we spend 10 amazing days. We started at the Radisson at Denaru which we absolutley loved then headed out to Plantation Island for the next part of our trip. When we arrived we were greated by friendly staff and were overjoyed by the beautiful location........thats where the joy ended!! We travelled with three kids 6, 5 & 1. Once off the boat we were ushered to check in and filled in on all the does and don'ts of the island. Then taken across to reception where I had to drag my daughter in a pram across think sand with bags etc, the paths around the island are shocking and not really suitable for families with young children with prams.

We checked in and were taken to our room which was lovely and clean with plenty of room for us five. The island is currently having more and more bures built which I am unsure as to how they think they will cater for this many guests, and they should be spending the money on their amenities rather then trying to cram more people in. At night walking back in the dark after dinner there was NO lighting at all and walking back with three kids wasnt much fun. After 2 days we decided we had had enough and at our own cost rebooked with the Radisson and left 3 days earlier then planned.

The island does however have the most beautiful beach and swimming spots we have been too and the trip out to the sandbar is a must and also the drop line fishing and its very reasonably priced as well.

The food is awful, really bad bistro food they really need to sort this out. Also when we walked to Muscat Cove and Anandas Restaurant the smell on that side of the island is really bad. Anandas food is worth the walk we had a lovely meal and the kids meals were good too.

Even though Plantation caters for really budget family holidays if you can afford the little bit extra go do another highly recommened island. Plantation should close down for a few months and really make it something special as the location is just amazing.

Room Tip: Stay on the 200 side if you can as the beach on that side is beautiful

This is a wonderful place to holiday with friends and family of all ages. The staff are just awesome, so friendly. The food was great and the price for our package was unbeatable. This is a fabulous place to unwind. Very safe for kids, who spent their days in the water. There is entertainment each night, the fire dancers where wonderful. I think we went at one of the best times of the year the June/July school holidays. The weather was perfect about 29o during the day and only dropping to about 24o at night. There were fans in the rooms, but we didn't need them. The trip over by "fast cat" was quick and comfortable and only took about 1 hour. We travelled to Fiji from Brisbane with Fiji Airways (ex Air Pacific) on their brand airbus, which was an unexpected surprise. From the moment you are welcomed at the airport with traditional singers to the moment you are waved goodbye to from the jetty the experience is one of relaxation and fun. The resort owners are currently building new units and renovating some old ones which will be nice. Bar and additional food prices are not cheap, so remember to take your duty free…I would highly recommend this holiday destination.

Room Tip: Some of the resort is in need of upgrading, but they are working on new rooms. Rooms are clean and well serviced. If you can request a beach front unit...do it! We bought an inclusive package with meals, which is the best option.
