“Loved the island!”
Reviewed October 29, 2012

My husband and I stayed at Plantation Island for our 24th wedding anniversary. We read the reviews about bad food and how exy it is. What a load of rubbish. It's not expensive and the food is basic. What do you expect on a 3 star island in the pacific? Sometimes the food temperature was not up to scratch but that was about it. We went on the Dolphin discovery trip and although we saw no dolphins, the snorkelling and tour of islands made up for that. Fantastic for reef snorkelling close to the island! Had a massage for an hour and that was great! I would highly recommend these wonderful ladies if you want to unwind, even if you are sunburnt! We didn't mind being surrounded by families and children either but if you don't like that, go to Lomani. I personally found it far too quiet when I visited it but loved Musket Cove and the service and food was great there too. Cocktails are wonderful and the sunsets are incredible. Thank you for a great holiday Plantation Island.

OK here's the low down, for all those people that winge about this place "Get A Life" If you want a place to take the family come here, Yes it is only 3 star but you are only paying 3 star, the rooms are clean and there was no damp smell, the food was great although the deserts get a bit tired after a few days wont look a cake for awhile, but still good, we had the meal deal it was good no worries with the kids, maybe a better system though it is slow sometimes, the Fijian time is a pain in the butt you have got to keep remembering that you are on holiday and dont fret reelaxx,
My only gripe on landing we were taken to a motel across the road so we could have drinks and swim in the pool until the boat people picked us up and took us to the boat, but we could have been in Port Denarau having alook at the shops and could have caught a earlier boat over instead of being stuck at the motel and it was the same on the way back but we stayed at Port Denarau did some shopping and caught a taxi to the airport ,when we were ready, cost $30 fiji which was cheap.
While waiting at the airport I overheard some people talking about how there rooms smelt bad they stayed at the Shangrali and Radisson and ours didn't go figger,
If you want a good holiday in Fiji this is the place,]\
One family have been coming here since their son was 6 he is now 17 says it all

My partner and I stayed at PIR May 2012. Great trip over on the cat, lovely welcome onshore.

Stayed in 1 room garden bure. Found the room to be pretty good, the shower area old but clean. The bed was pretty crap, soggy in the middle, for a whole 6 nights we kept rolling into each other, lol. And have to say didn't like the lack of privacy in the bathroom, although we did laugh as whoever had to 'go' let the other know and they bolted outside, lol.

The beach was beautiful and very well kept.

We didn't eat at the resort but ate at Anandas, Lomani's and Dick's, all of which were tasty.

Staff in general were excellent, always a 'bulla' and smile when crossing paths.

I sent my partner Neil off to golf with Bill for at least 3 games and each day he came back beaming. He said that Bill was the highlight of the trip and I would have to agree, everytime we passed him around the resort he was so warm, welcoming and loved to have a joke with us. Top bloke, hope the resort recognises how valuable he is to them.

On the whole, I would probably return in the low season as the rates are good, the staff friendly, the location idllylic. But would upgrade and get a better bed, lol.

We went for the 4th time on 18 October 2012. As a middle-aged couple, we dont mind being surrounded by families. It's easy to find your own private part of the beach if you wish.
Studio garden bure #303 is only about 15 meters off the beach, and by the pool. Very handy to the restaurant and bar.
We were disappointed with the meals, however this time. The buffet breakfast was repeatitive, and the desserts were stodgy and lacking in flavour. We had the 1/2 meal plan, and could opt to have meals at Lomani and Anandas and the Black Coral Restaurant - with a credit of $40pp.
Plenty of free activities.
No adult nightlife really. Great time to escape back to the bure to enjoy duty free drinks.
Gardens are beautiful to walk through, with many concrete paths. Plenty of shade.
We recommend going on an Island hop to appreciate what Plantation has to offer.

Room Tip: Studio garden bures have nice outlooks. Hotel rooms very outdated and tired.

Got back last night after a week at PIL with my in laws, plus brother and sister in law, niece and our 2 and 6 year old boys.
We had a little trepidation due to some of the previous reviews so our expectations were not that high.
Location was fantastic. We stayed in the hotel rooms right by the beach. Ideal with kids as you can just pop back to your room for any gear, sunblock, kids sleeps etc etc. Beach was fantastic on this side. On our last 2 days the wind picked up from thh NE so we just moved round the pier to the Lomani side where it was sheltered. The beach here was even better and we would book the Bures in the low 200's next time. Our room was spacious and clean and perfectly adequate.

Staff were generally extremely friendly. Maritha at breakfast loved the kids, Livi our babysitter was fantastic, Bola at the bar was great and the medical staff were brilliant after I sliced my foot open on some coral. Overall staff were friendly and helpful and greeted you with a smile and a Bula.

Food. We had not expected much of the food after the reviews and had mixed reactions to what was on offer. Breakfast had plenty of fresh fruit, cereals for the kids, fresh cooked eggs along with toast and sausages beans etc. The "spam like substance" was alternated every other day with real bacon so we got our brekkie fix ok. Coffee was stewed as at every resort, but I always take my own coffee and they also sold proper coffee a the the coco hut. They did not offer the full 5 star breakfast spread but they only profess to be 3 star so I would rate trhem really well on this.
The snack bar was closed and being rebuilt so this will be a great addition when its up and running again so you don't have to go up to the Black Coral to order. The Lunch buffet was really a bit of a miss though but you could at least swing round for a look at it before you decided whether to commit or not. For the kids there was always something for them at the buffet be it pasta or sandwiches or salad so they ate well.
Kids dinner, although not that apeealing to adults in 30 degree heat, was just what kids will eat so they will be full and happy and therefore mum and dad will be too. Spag Bol, roast chicken, roast pork, sweet and sour, pizza, sandwiches, curry etc. Our 2 boys ate plenty every night then went off with the babysitter to kids club while the adults had pre dinner drinks.
Our group of 6 adults have varying food tastes so having the option of the buffet or the Al la Carte worked really well. 2 nights a la carte with the fish was superb, particularly the spanish mackerel which was cooked perfectly. The food wasn't 5 star but perfectly edible very tasty and even very good if you chose well.
We ate at Lomani one night which was a great settiing with good staff, Johnathan in particular and great food although more expensive than PI. You up the ratings and setting you pay the price :)
We also went for sundowners at the island bar at the marina one night which had a great atmosphere with all the boaties and then on for dinner at Musket Cove. Musket had the ambience and the service and fantastic food and was actaully cheaper than PI for the curry anyway.
Overall our week at PIL was a fantastic family holiday. Heaps for the kids to do on the beach, kids club to breeze in and out if they wanted to, 3 pools to choose from, different beaches for different wind directions, cold beer, hot sunshine, wonderful smiles and great memories.

You can see that they are making improvements to the place and making it prettier and more modern. If they continue on the theme they have a started with the beach building then it may be in danger of grabbing another star :)

We will be going back and will be taking friends too.

Room tips Beach side hotel 135 downwards and beach bures in the low 200s.

We visited the Island 14th Oct - 20th Oct 2012. We were very dissappointed, the island and scenery unbelievable just beautiful, but accomodation was not even 3 star. Why would you do garden renovations on two bures when they were being occupied, when it poured rain we had mud and water everywhere flooding, which we had to walk through to enter our bure.
The food was poor, and no where near enough, bowls were always empty and not replenished, although the breakfast was good.
The tiles around the childrens pool area were extremley slippery we were constantly telling our 6yr old grandson not to run, we did witness a man slip and fall on the steps to the pool and you could see he was in pain, a real accident waiting to happen.
We found it annoying that you could not purchase anything with Fijian dollars every item went on your room account even a can of soft drink.
Drinkiing water was attainable at the main bar by filling up water bottles, we feel this should have been replenished and placed in your room daily.
Don't touch the HOT water tap in the shower it was boiling hot quite a fright the first time you turned it off.
The staff are great with children, very attentive, and their entertainment great, but some entertainment for adults after 8.30pm would have been wonderful to sit back and relax and enjoy their true fijian hospitality.
It is truely a beautiful Island but needs a good overhaul.
We will definitely travel to Fiji again but unfortunately not to Plantation Island.

Room Tip: Go for a beach front bure near Lomani resort, excellent views and quieter if you are child free.Go f...

Travelled there back in July 2008, (had to put 2012 to be able to submit this) our arrival was at lunch time and we were shocked as it was low tide at the time and there was NO water, and it looked quite off, but as soon as the tide comes in and the bay fills up it was absoloutely BEAUTIFUL!!
We were welcomed with the locals singing for us as we came off the boat and were given necklaces and welcome drinks.
The buffet food was AMAZING, I did get sick once night after drinking local vodka so be wary of that.
SO much to do there, but felt it was more of a family resort - not so much for couples. Night life is non existant, once the nightly entertainment (frog races etc) is done then everyone pretty much goes to bed.
I would highly recommend the massage!!
Service quality varied from staff member, had some we loved, others were a bit snappy.
The beach has a lot of coral so if kayaking be very careful of that. Lot of fun & free activities to do too!
Overall though - LOVED it.

Room Tip: If you're staying there dont get the basic rooms - they are nice enough but the villa's are...
