“Beautiful, thoughtful, delicious, and restorative vacation!”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

We stayed four nights at Likuliku to break up a work trip in the South Pacific with a bit of rest and relaxation. We are so relieved that we chose as well as we did- what beautiful memories in paradise! Our stay was amazing mostly because of the attentive and considerate staff, who seemed to actually enjoy spending their time at Likuliku, taking care of guests. We tried excursions ( island hopping and private beach picnic ), listened to the choir and dancers, took a hike to the other side of the island, snorkeled, enjoyed the spa, and most importantly- did a lot of absolutely nothing! Our mealtimes were really special, and our accommodation was great as well. We tried the deluxe bungalow at first - it was beautiful with great attention to detail. The outside shower was my favorite feature. But we had three nights in the overwater bungalow and consider it a highlight of the trip. They are uniquely and considerately designed- light coming in from so many areas of the bungalow, so many places to view the fish, and the outdoor deck is a delight!

I loved Likuliku and hope to return some day. Always happy to answer questions if I can help in any way. Have so much fun!

Room Tip: The overwater bungalows are special!

We spent 11 days for our honeymoon after 3 nights in LA.. We wondered prior to arriving why people had only previously visied for a shorter length of time, and wondered whether 11 days we would get bored.. welllll 11 days was not enough!!!

when we were researching, we were contemplating which 5* resort to visit, either namale or likuliku.. we were grateful for a great travel agent as we were advised and haven spoken to likuliku staff that worked at namale that there is no beach and the weather is tempromental with often experiencing rain even in the dry months. having done island hopping in fiji, by far the best resort.

welcome/Goodbye: emotional- we were greeted by staff on the jetty with a beautiful welcome song and leaving song when we left. when we arrived we were given a yummy cocktail.

bedroom: we had a garden beachfront bure no.27. we loved that we had our own bridge to the beach over the mangroves with our own cabana. the rooms are wonderfully furnished, replensihed everyday with cookies, toiletries etc. my partner and i do not drink alcohol and as our honeymoon present we were meant to have a bottle of champagne- instead upon arrival we were asked whether we would like to subsitute this for soft drinks and snacks which we had throughout our stay.

food: fantastic.. we have eaten at many high end restaurants around the world, and the taste/presentation of the meals were great. on some of the days on the holiday i had an upset tummy and the chef was great in accomadating in cooking different foods upon request.
near the end of the holiday we wanted to etry some of our favorite dishes we had tried and these were all made upon request

spa/ activities: great. the snorkel gear provided is excellent quality, and Iley and Tom helped me make a basket out of palm leaves.

overall: brilliant place. very sad to of left, will be back soon

Likuliku is paradise! The rooms are beautiful, clean, many special touches. The food was great and included in the room price. They offered quite a bit complementary such as, canoes, snorkeling equipment, wind surfing boards. They really go above and beyond to make your stay carefree. Their staff were amazing, and made you feel like family. We will definitely be back!

If you are even considering Likuliku... stop thinking and BOOK IT.

My husband and I stayed in an overwater bungalow and would highly recommend it. So fun to go snorkeling, swimming, or kayaking right from your bure... or simply to lay out on the deck and enjoy the view. The bure itself was very spacious, clean, and nicely decorated. The food was incredible... it definitely exceeded our expectations. Finally... the people who work here are warm, kind, and truly happy to help in any way that they can. Our stay was so relaxing and we honestly could not have been happier with our experience

Likuliku truly is a special place. Trust me, it's worth it!

If you can, take the helicopter to the resort... it is obviously a great way to save time, but also an experience in itself given the view of the resort from up high.

My wife and I arrived at the resort via South Seas Cruises ferry. We were warmly greeted on the pier by a small group of Likuliku employees who were singing a welcome "bula" song. From that moment, I knew our decision to stay at Likuliku was a wise one. We were briefed at the Masima Island Bar by a friendly staff member as we relaxed with a refreshing , complimentary cocktail. Registration was a snap, having only to sign a pre-filled form with our necessary information. Our bure (#39), which we had requested prior to arrival, was not ready so we familiarized ourselves with the resort.

Likuliku is the epitome of a relaxed environment and captures the true essence of Fiji; through the Fijian architecture and the warmth of their Fijian hospitality. Approximately four dozen free-standing bures ring the lagoon, from the over-water bungalows to the beachfront bures; some with private plunge pools.

The resort has two bars. The Masima Island Bar is located in the middle of the arrival/departure pier and the Dua Tale Bar & Lounge is located in the central complex, next to the Fijiana Restaurant. The Masima Bar is ideal for watching the sunset while the Dua Tale Bar is great for pre-dinner cocktails. Fijiana, the only restaurant on site, offers stunning views of the lagoon and nearby islands.

The multi-level infinity pool is located in the central complex and has an attached lap pool section. Also on site is a boutique, business center, 24-hour gym, 24-hour reception desk, activity bure and guest/departure lounge that features a DVD library and satellite television (no televisions in guest bures).

After lunch we were driven by golf cart to our deluxe beachfront accommodations. The bure was stunning; from it's open, high-beam, thatched roof to the dark, hardwood flooring and trim. The bi-level bure had large, "his" and "hers" sinks and closets. The large, comfortable bed was positioned to maximize views of the lagoon. An enclosed alcove in the back of the bure was equipped with a shower which could be used in complete privacy. The unit was air-conditioned and equipped with CD and DVD players. Beach towels and bathrobes were provided, as was a hair dryer, iron & board and safe. A jar of freshly baked cookies was refilled daily, as was the ice bucket and bottled Fiji water. In-room, high speed internet access was also complimentary. The refrigerated mini-bar is supplied in accordance with guest orders. On the redwood deck and just steps from the water's edge was an inviting plunge pool and a large, covered day bed. The approximately five feet deep pool had a ledge to sit on to fully enjoy the impact of the Jacuzzi jets. The pool's water temperature, estimated to be in the low 70's, was refreshingly cool but not too cold for most to enjoy.

Many activities and tours are offered at Likuliku and are organized by the employees at the Activities Bure. Complimentary snorkel gear and non-motorized sports equipment is available. A list of most activities, including pricing, can be found on the resort's website. We arranged for a private island hopping tour that included stops on Malolo Lai Lai (Plantation Island Resort), Qalito Island (Castaway Island Resort) and Mociu Island (also known as Honeymoon Island - a small islet just a stone's throw from Likuliku and a good snorkeling spot). On our last full day, we took the 3.5 hour Modriki Island tour, which I highly recommend. Modriki is the island where the movie "Castaway" with Tom Hanks was filmed. Our boat ride over to Modriki took about 45 minutes but included some slow passes by several other islands (Qalito, Matamanoa, Mana & Tokoriki). It was a good chance to see what the resorts on those islands looked like. Upon arriving on Modriki, our guide gave us a short walking tour of the island, which was followed by breakfast on the beach (coffee & muffins). We then snorkeled the pristine waters for about an hour. On the way back to Likuliku, we stopped at the Mana Sandbar for another quick swim/snorkel.

The Likuliku Lagoon and Malolo Island is surrounded by a reef which makes snorkeling and diving ideal (on-site dive shop operated by Subsurface Fiji (PADI/5 star IDC). Snorkeling from the shore, in front of our bure was less than ideal, however there is a shallow reef with tons of fish just off the arrival/departure island pier. For those seeking a wide, soft sand beach, Likuliku would not be your ideal location. The beach is fairly narrow with hard, course sand and is laden with broken coral and small shells. The lagoon has a fairly extreme tide divergence. The end of the lagoon that houses the over-water bungalows is more exposed during low tide than the other end. While I did not observe this during our stay, I had read some reviews reporting that the over-water bungalows sat over mud & rocks during extreme low tides. I strongly suggest checking the tide charts before booking at Likuliku, especially if planning on staying in an over-water bungalow. For those opting to stay in a deluxe, beachfront bure, I would recommend bures #38 through #41; as those seemed to be less impacted by low tides.

Dining at Fijiana was a pleasurable experience each day. The restaurant is comprised of several distinct areas that merge into each other; creating a unique Fijian atmosphere. The main section of the restaurant is covered but open-air. There is an outside, "dining under the stars" section on the lower level and in addition, there are two tables that sit on platforms nearly at the water's edge; for those celebrating that special occasion (reservations in advance required). Table location and dining time can be requested upon arrival at the resort. The food at Fijiana was always very good. The cuisine is fresh and creative, with emphasis on local seafood, tropical fruits and vegetables. Menus are diverse, especially for breakfast. No less than three entrees, plus appetizers and desert are offered for lunch and dinner. Sample menus can be found on the Likuliku website. While the resort's "official" dress code for dinner is "resort casual" (long pants, collared shirt and closed shoes for men), it was not enforced (I observed quite a few men being seated wearing shorts & sandals). In-room dining service is not offered at Likuliku.

On the last night of our stay, we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived for dinner and were escorted to one of the special tables on the beach. We had not requested the table, even though we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and had no recollection of telling the staff of our special occasion. After we completed dinner, six staff members arrived at our table; one playing a guitar, another playing a ukulele and all singing a beautiful Fijian song. Our waiter then arrived with two over-sized cupcakes, each with a lit candle and served on a plate that had "Happy 25th Wedding Anniversary" written in chocolate icing. After their song, each of the employees personally greeted us with a warm handshake and "congratulations." My wife and I were truly touched; both by the group's sincerity and the fact that the event took a lot of planning by management.

From the office staff to the restaurant, bar and landscaping crews, every employee was extremely friendly and eager to greet you with a heart-felt "bula." It didn't escape our attention that many employees knew our names and where we were from by the second day. After one week at the resort, we felt as if we were part of the Likuliku family, which made saying "good-bye" difficult. Service at Likuliku was extraordinary and made our entire stay and ultimate departure seamless. During our stay, we had the opportunity to meet and chat with Steve Anstey, a delightful man and General Manager for Likuliku and the Malolo Island Resort next door. It was our pleasure to personally congratulate Steve for managing such a well-run operation.

I highly recommend Likuliku Lagoon Resort for those couples seeking a quiet and romantic getaway. Likuliku is a remarkable spot in the world to celebrate that very special occasion.

Likuliku was the last week of our two week honeymoon in Fiji. After a week at Tokoriki we didn't think anything could get anymore perfect - we were wrong!

We arrived at Likuliku by helicopter (which was a total blast!). As soon as we stepped out of that helicopter we felt like we had arrived home.

As a side note - we'd previously spent a couple of holidays at their sister resort Malolo Island which we loved, but Likuliku is now our new home away from home.

We got carted to the reception area at the main part of the resort, our driver Tim guided us through all the ins and outs of the resort and gave us the nicest iced tea. Delicious! We were then taken by cart to our gorgeous Bure (Bure 36) - did I mention it was absolutely gorgeous? Polished wood floors, traditional weaved roofs, separate sinks in the bathroom, a rain head shower, an outdoor shower, a comfy day bed to doze on in the afternoons, our own sun loungers on the beach, stereo with ipod dock, free in-room wifi, and did I mention the delicious home made cookies that were topped up every day? We also made of the laundry service here everything was beautifully washed and ironed.

Food & Beverage - I don't think words can express how amazing the food was. The Chef at the resort is so talented. Every day the menu changed (except breakfast) and every meal was mind-blowing! We felt like we were dining at a 5 star restaurant every day.

The wine list was quite comprehensive and they had a short and sweet selection of cocktails - although in saying that they will pretty much make whatever you ask them to do if you have favourite cocktail that is not on the list. I loved the Bloody Katakata's and they use their own island chillis to infuse the vodka so it is extra spicy (which I love). They also made me my old favourite cocktail from Malolo Island which was called the Banana Ratu (sadly they don't make this anymore at Malolo but Fili and the other bar staff were only too happy to recreate this for me).

We would like to make a special shout out to Mere, Fili, Finau, Usa, Aquila, Bill. Aurelie and Tila in the F&B section. They made us feel so special and are such wonderful people. We really did feel at home.

Activities - We tried early morning trolling with Inia and Ili and also handline fishing with Inia - we were much more successful on the handline and we really enjoyed our time out on the boat.

We went snorkeling to Honeymoon Island with Sam - he was such a great guide and we had a great time. The snorkeling gear at Likuliku is really good too.

Opeti at the activities desk was an absolute sweetheart and he even showed us all how to make Kokoda one night at the Masima Bar.

We also tried jet skiing (via Malolo Island Resort) - we enjoyed this so much we are planning a day trip the next time we come to Fiji.

Spa - We had a couple of couples massages at the Spa. The staff there were so nice and I thoroughly recommend the massages. So good! They use all the Pure Fiji products which I am addicted to, and you can also purchase the Pure Fiji products from the spa.

Likuliku is truly a slice of paradise, the resort is beautifully designed, quiet, clean, friendly, and well-run. We had the best holiday there and would love to come back soon. We miss our Likuliku family!

Room Tip: We had a beachfront bure - a lot closer to the main area of the resort and the beach. Amazing rooms!
