Location full of mosquitos!!! The sea isn't good at all, there is low tide during the day and you can't enjoy neither the beach nor the sea. If you walk to the pick the landscape is amazing... but the mosquitos will follow you! and there is also a very noisy electric generator working all the day, so you can't even relax yourself. You have to pay for excursions to the next islands. Unfortunatly for The workers that are very Smart.

I cannot commend this place enough, it scores highly in practically every category going and my wife and I had an amazing time here. We stayed for 6 nights in Nov 2012 and wished we could have stayed longer.

The staff are what make this place. We have stayed in pretty much every kind of accommodation around the world from horrible hostels to 5 and 6 star palaces and I don't think we have ever received such good service from staff, simply incredible. We loved them all.

The food was good and it made a change to have a choice for lunch and dinner instead of the usual buffet affair you get on the islands.

While we stayed we had beer and wine included within the price which made this an incredible value place to stay.

The tours and facilities on offer were all excellent and the beach side bure that we got a free upgrade to was just lovely.

If you go to the Mamuca islands don't even think about staying anywhere else, just stay here, you won't regret it.

Room Tip: The dorm looked niceenou and the private rooms in the dorm were basic but nice for some privacy, the...

came into fiji mostly for kitesurfing and looking for a pleasant place to stay on a budget. got off the mainland and over to the funky fish to find a peaceful paradise that wasn't crazy expensive. In fact, while we stayed there beer, wine and 3 meals a day were included in our room price. staff was excellent. food was good. stayed in the dormitory house which was cleaned daily, nice showers, comfortable beds and not overcrowded, actually just 3 of us total in there at the time. beautiful hiking on the island and boat rides out to all the waves are some of the cheapest you will find. also could kite right from the beach there, or go out to the sandbar. we did a downwinder to some big breaks too and the boat came to get us....kiters dream vacation. this place was very peaceful and classy in an affordable travel fashion. a few islands over is the beachcomber, go there if you want to party hard, listen to loud music and roast on the beach all day with the rest of the crowd.

Me and my partner stayed here for 4 nights before moving onto the coral coast (main island). This place would suit couples and families alike but especially budget conscious travellers.

STAFF:...although sometimes it seemed they might need a bit of a push (activities etc) they were great! some, to name Mally as one who stood out, were full of energy. the first night we arrived he started a kava ceremony to welcome us with the rest of the staff which was such an incredible experience. great to get to know people including others staying there and a perfect insight into the Fijian culture. Mary was running the place, and sorting out a few imperfections from what we could see. she was very lovely! the new chef was also very sweet and loved to make us happy.

FOOD: all meals were inclusive which made things so easy! and very good value for the money we paid. there was a different menu every day with a choice of two meals for each course. everything we had was lovely and personally more than enough for me, although the people we were with didn't seem to think there was quite enough. if we asked nicely we got dessert aswel! all inclusive alcohol we couldn't complain about either.

ACTIVITIES: there was a nice selection of things to do, most of which were free (including scuba diving, kayaking and volleyball), Malley also took us on a herbal medicine tour which was great, showed us how to weave baskets and then took us all for a big volleyball game (there was about 9 of us in total staying there). some days we all went to musket cove wwhich was great for shopping etc and a really good beach there. we didn't surf but want with some friends there who said it was really good. the only issue with going things was that since hthere was only one boat, outings had to be arranged to accommodate everyone, that didn't turn outility as an issue for us as we liked to do things with the people we'd made friends with but it could have been otherwise

ROOMS: we stayed in a private room which was in the dorm building. it was very basic but new towels everyday etc and didn't have any major problems.

overall this isn't luxury but really good value for money, we had a great time and would recommend
it to anyone :)

We stayed at the Funky Fish as a trip away for my husbands 50th Birthday. Returned to NZ 23rd Oct 2012. There were 6 of us 2 couples and 2 singles we booked the Grand Grouper bure with its 2 double bedrooms, lounge, kitchenette and large deck on the beach front and we had the one room bure next door with its own bathroom. Having a kitchenette was very useful as it had a fridge with freezer so could make ice, and cool our duty free drinks!. 3 meals a day were included along with beer and wine from 12.00 to 10pm!. The food was great -continental breakfast with delicious pancakes, choose from a menu for lunch and dinner- the curries were great. Cheap trips were available we did the snorkeling trip twice out to the sandy cay in the middle of the bay- $20
Staff were fantastic very helpful- nothing too much trouble. They have a new Manager Ash who is making some good changes such a new hot water tanks for all bure, lots of maintenance and tidying up was going on as the property changed hands earlier in the year. The atmosphere was great met lots of new people, evenings were fun without being too raucous. Would recommend to all ages and situations but perhaps not those who want 4 or 5 star places! Apparently the surfing is great and they organizes daily boats out to Cloud break. They will also organize reasonably priced dive trips and other water sports from near by Musket cove.

Room Tip: For families and groups the Grand Grouper (2 bedroom) Bures are great with lots of space, on the bea...

My partner and I stayed at Funky Fish recently from around 7 - 12th October. Although the resort as a whole needs a bit of work (which they are in the progress of planning and undertaking), the experience could not have been better.
The Bula's are suitable for two people and have a outdoor shower which we both really enjoyed. The isolation of the property combined with the laid back atmosphere made it a perfect place to relax. Industrial strength aerogard is the only recommendation I can make to travellers.
The pool is a great spot to hang out and the entire place has a great sense of community.
The staff have to be commended on their friendliness and approachability and their efforts in making us all come together and have as much fun as we did. After arriving the staff made us feel as if we were family and I genuinly felt a little sad on departing.
We didn't go surfing but Sandbank snorkelling trip was excellent, we had no need to bother organising scuba diving as we had intended due to the great visibility and abundance of fish and marine life at such shallow depths.
Funky Fish would be perfect for couples, groups or even solo travellers.
I would definately return to Funky Fish in the future and thank you to all the staff and other guests for making that leg of our trip such a memorable experience.
