Beachcomber Island Resort
Reviewed January 11, 2011

We booked 6 nights at the Beachcomber Island Resort over Christmas and left just before New Years Eve with 3 other friends. We're all in our mid-20's and we shared a Beachfront Bure.

In total we spent about 15 days in Fiji and I have to say, Beachcomber was the highlight of our trip. We even booked a day trip once we were staying in Denarau because we missed it so much.

The white sandy beaches of Beachcomber Island are much better than the mainland (a lesson we learned the hard way) and the coral and sea-life are just incredible. If you are at the Beachcomber, do as many activities as you can. A highlight for us was the Sea Trek (guided walking tour under the sea), Banana Boating and deep sea fishing. We caught a 15 kilo Spanish Mackeral!

In terms of accommodation, it's not luxary by any stretch of the imagination compared to some of the 5 or 4 star resorts on the mainland. There's no air conditioning but who cares! You are in paradise. I can't really talk about the dorms as we didn't stay in them but from what I heard, they are not too bad.

The beachfront bures were great but not cheap by any means. But price seemed reasonable considering we had the best room on such a small ideallic island. We had a hammock right outside our room that we spent hours in and a beach right infront of us.

The partying was hit and miss as it all depended on who was at the resort at the time. But when things really got rolling, we had an absolute blast. The bar staff were friendly and efficient compared to other resorts who were REALLY effected by "Fiji Time". In terms of drink prices, Beachcomber wasn't at all too bad. It was more expensive than most backpacker places but considering everything needed to be shipped and all their electricity was powered by a generator, it seemed quite reasonable. 6 nights of intense drinking and activities only cost us each what we would normally spend over two nights of similar debauchery in Sydney.

The snack bar that provided take away food like hot chips and burgers was dismal but lunch and dinner was quite nice. I definitely got tired of the food after 6 nights and got a bit of a belly ache from eating curry every lunch.

Would I recommend this place to other people? Definitely.

It is more suitable for 18 - 30 year olds who like to drink and be around other young like-minded folk. But what's awesome about this place is that after a big night, you wake up to a pristine beach and gorgeous water.

When I arrived at Beachcomber, our shuttle boat was greeted by some of the most amazing staff i have ever had the pleasure of meeting. They still had a smile on their face even though they were greeting us in the daily downpour that Fiji is known for in its wet season, however this daily downpour is quick to leave and what is left is a beautiful day. The island also met its expectations as the party island and all of the staff make your stay so pleasant i am hoping to return in July. I could not recommend this island enough to young travellers passing through the Fijian islands and to get the full experience I highly recommend that you stay over the night because aswell as all the activities that the island provides such as great snorkelling and Turtle feeding in the afternoon, the island really comes to life at night and the floorless young fire dancers really get the night off to a great start. The night is then followed by hours of drinking, dancing and meeting other young traveller who are there to have a great time.

I cannot stress it enough, GET YOURSELF TO BEACHCOMBER FOR THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE.

I can easily say that they were the greatest 8 nights of my trip.

Very bad resort, dirty beach, dirty room( beach front villa).
The only good point is that they accepted to refund us the other nights we booked.
No way to stay more than one night in that awful place.

What a brilliant concept; a tiny tropical island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, so small even a little roo like me can hop around it in a matter of minutes, inhabited for no other reason than to hold Fiji's biggest party... every night of the week. The only reason I rate it poorly on sleep is becuase if that's high on your priority then you probably shouldn't be there. That said, the bed's are very comfortable and you will find time to sleep at some point.

I really liked this place. When I initially arrived, I thought it would be of a low standard, but after returning again after my trip around the Yasawas where I have seen many very basic resorts, Beachcomber seems luxury.
The double room I was staying in was small, but very tidy. The bed is comfy, the bathroom is nice and they have fresh water showers which you can also turn hot (most Yasawa resorts only have cold salt water showers!!!). Food was within the best I had during my one week trip and there was plenty of it (unlike some other resorts, where you were nearly starving if you need a little more food than usual). They offer different kind of daily activities and chilling out at the bar after dinner is great. It is probably the only real party place on the Mamanucas/Yasawas, but you still get a good nights sleep over there. One big advantage is that you can perfectly swim during low tide which is often not possible in many other places. I would totally go back here!

Good Resort with good evening entertainment, good food and good breakfast (the fruit is excellent), the island is really small but nice and comfortable. The only drawback is the daily arrival of tourists who come to visit, lunch and departure. Too bad ...... it loses much of romance and lunch is really a war to those who arrive first at the buffet.
The evening is really beautiful, the stars, the sea etc.
Nice souvenir shop, and very pleasant bar where they serve good long drink with fruit and rum
